Modernizing ASP.NET Framework to Core in 2026
**š„ Modernizing ASP.NET Framework to Core in 2026**
Inside Microsoftās AIāDriven App Modernization Work
š
Wednesday, 11 March 2026
š 5:30pm ā 7:00pm NZDT
š Microsoft Auckland (Hybrid)
š¤ Presenter: Taylor Southwick
**š Why this session is special**
This is a rare opportunity for the Auckland / New Zealand .NET community.
Taylor Southwick is based in Redmond, working directly inside Microsoft engineering on application modernization tooling and strategy. Heās only in Auckland for a short visit ā and this session gives local developers a chance to hear firstāhand how Microsoft is approaching AIāassisted App Modernization for large, realāworld .NET applications.
This isnāt a conference replay or a polished marketing talk ā itās direct insight from the team building the tools.
**š§ Session overview**
Modernising large, longālived ASP.NET Framework applications is no longer a āsomedayā problem ā itās a rightānow reality for many teams across NZ and beyond.
In this session, Taylor Southwick will share how Microsoft is thinking about modernising ASP.NET Framework applications to ASP.NET Core in 2026, drawing directly from real customer and ISV engagements involving very large, very real codebases.
**Rather than a theoretical migration guide, this talk focuses on:**
ā
What actually works in practice
ā
What breaks (and why)
ā
How teams are using AIāassisted and incremental approaches to modernisation
ā
Where the latest App Modernization (AppMod) tooling is heading
Much of this thinking is shaped by recent work with enterprise customers ā including Vistaābacked organisations ā navigating complex, multiāyear modernisation programs under real business constraints.
**š§© What Taylor will cover**
Taylor will start with \~30 minutes of prepared content, followed by an open, interactive discussion.
Topics include:
* The current state of ASP.NET Framework ā Core migrations in 2026
* How Microsoft and customers are breaking down large monoliths without āstopping the worldā
* Common antiāpatterns and traps teams fall into during modernisation
* Where incremental modernisation makes sense ā and where it doesnāt
* How AIādriven tooling is starting to influence AppMod decisions
* How teams are thinking about risk, ROI, and sequencing for longārunning migrations
* This content comes straight from frontline engineering and customer work, not greenfield demos.
š§Ŗ Format
ā
\~30 minutes of prepared walkthrough and insights
ā
Followed by open Q&A and discussion
ā
No heavy slide deck ā this is about shared learning and lived experience
Whether youāre:
* Sitting on a 10+ year old ASP.NET Framework app
* Midāmigration and feeling the pain
* Or trying to work out how to even start
ā¦this session should give you practical clarity and confidence ā straight from the source.

CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
Window functions have nothing to do with the Windows operating system but provide a āwindowā to a result set when used in SQL queries. They are powerful, set-based methods to view data in unexpected ways. Window functions provide easy, set-based solutions to solve some common problems:
* Using running totals
* Performing operations in intervals
* Identifying data gaps and islands
* Performing aggregates without losing detail
Many people are confused by window functions and do not know how to use them properly. This session will explore window functions, how they work, and how to use them. Demonstrations with several examples will solidify how window functions can simplify queries and make them more powerful.
