There are cities that grow slowly, block by block, and then there is Chongqing, a place that seems to have been **designed by a dragon with a passion for bridges, neon lights, and vertical chaos**. Built where the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers meet, Chongqing rises in layers of towers, staircases, hidden lanes, and roads that appear to ignore conventional geometry. Here, trains pass through apartment buildings, streets sit above other streets, and maps become more of a suggestion than a rule. Yet beneath the modern frenzy lies an old mountain city of teahouses, river traders, and fiercely proud cuisine. **It is less a destination and more an event.** From this urban theatre, the road leads south to Wulong Karst National Geology Park, where nature appears to have worked on a grand scale with no interest in moderation. **Limestone bridges as tall as skyscrapers arc across deep valleys, caves open like cathedral doors,** and cliffs plunge into green shadows far below. Waterfalls slip from the rock face, mist curls through the ravines, and every turn looks suspiciously like a film set, because some of it actually was. This is the kind of landscape that leaves hikers speechless and photographers convinced they need just one more shot. **If Chongqing is human imagination unleashed, Wulong is the earth’s imagination revealed.** Further east, the Yangtze narrows and the land tightens into the legendary Three Gorges. Near Fengjie stands **Baidi City, perched above the river will make you think a visionary had perfect location in mind.** Temples, pavilions, and ancient stone paths overlook waters that have carried merchants, poets, generals, and no doubt a few people who took the wrong boat. This is a landscape where history does not sit in museums, it hangs in the mist and echoes in the cliffs. Then comes Wushan, gateway to one of the most dramatic corners of the gorges. Mountains rise sharply from the riverbanks, clouds gather theatrically, and ridgelines stretch into the distance like the spine of some sleeping giant. Here the famous **Dragon Spine hike** traces narrow heights above the Yangtze, rewarding brave legs with grand views and mildly offended calves. It is the sort of trail that reminds you how small you are. One moment you are catching your breath, the next you are wondering why your camera cannot capture scale, wind, or goosebumps. And just when you think the journey has reached peak spectacle, Chongqing welcomes you back with hot springs, massage tables, glowing skylines, and enough evening lights to convince the stars to retire early. This region’s genius lies in its contrasts: city and wilderness, ancient legend and futuristic energy, strenuous adventure and glorious laziness. Begin at Liziba Monorail Station, where a train passes directly through a residential building with complete confidence. Continue to Jiefangbei CBD, the energetic commercial heart of the city, before sampling the fragrant chaos of Bayi Road Food Street. Later, stroll along Daijiaxiang Walkway for skyline views that seem designed for cinema. End the evening at Hongya Cave, glowing above the river like an ancient palace that discovered electricity. **Day 2 :: Chongqing – Wulong** Travel into the countryside where the city’s neon drama gives way to geological theatre. At Wulong Karst National Geology Park, vast limestone landscapes rise with the confidence of monuments built by time itself. Explore the celebrated Three Natural Bridges, colossal arches spanning deep valleys with almost unnecessary grandeur. Continue into Longshuixia Fissure Gorge, where waterfalls, cliffs, and narrow passages create a scene somewhere between fantasy novel and tectonic masterpiece. By evening, Wulong feels wonderfully remote and refreshingly quiet. **Day 3 :: Wulong – Fengjie – Wushan** Journey eastward toward the famed Three Gorges, where the Yangtze begins to gather dramatic intentions. Stop at Baidi City, an ancient hilltop site layered with poetry, legend, and enviable river views. This was a place where emperors, scholars, and strategists once looked over the same waters now flowing quietly below. Continue through landscapes of steep cliffs and winding valleys toward Wushan. Arriving here feels like entering the prologue to an epic mountain story. **Day 4 :: Three Gorges Dragon Spine Hike** Today belongs to altitude, perspective, and pleasantly challenged leg muscles. The Dragon Spine trail above Wushan follows dramatic ridgelines overlooking the Yangtze and the surrounding mountains. Each turn reveals deeper gorges, sharper peaks, and views that make ordinary postcards seem underqualified. The path is adventurous without losing its dignity, thrilling without becoming theatrical. Return to Chongquing with tired feet, clear lungs, and a suspicious number of photographs. But its not yet time for bed, as evening falls, the city skyline resumes its role as one of Asia’s great visual spectacles. Its time for a Chongquing synchronized drone light show that turns the sky itself into entertainment. **Day 5 :: Wushan – Chongqing** Civilization greets you with comfort and excellent timing. Famous for its unique culture and stunning landscapes, **Bhutan**, the legendary **Kingdom of the Himalayas**, is a country unlike any other. Often called **the last Shangri-La**, this is a place where time runs slower, and the government operates by the unique philosophy of **Gross National Happiness**. Many factors contribute to the famed **happiness and contentment** of Bhutan’s population, from the country’s pride in **preserving its traditions**, languages, and customs to the **prioritization of wellbeing** over material wealth. In this land of dense forests and towering mountains, incredible vistas are all around, and a **connection to nature** is deeply ingrained in the culture. In addition, the practice of **Mahayana Buddhism** profoundly influences the Bhutanese way of life, emphasizing inner peace, compassion, and community harmony. With **stupas and monasteries** on every corner, spirituality is embedded in daily life here. Centuries of religious devotion have led to the creation of incredible landmarks and sacred spaces, including the country’s iconic crown jewel: Taktsang monastery, or **the** **Tiger’s Nest**. One of the most venerated places of pilgrimage in the Himalayas, the monastery appears like something out of a fairy tale, clinging to the rock a towering 800m (2,600ft) above the valley floor. Nowhere in the Himalayas is the natural environment richer and more diverse than it is in Bhutan, home to high, rugged mountains and deep valleys which have been recognized as one of the world’s ten most important **biodiversity hotspots**. One of Bhutan’s ancient names was Menjong Yul, meaning **‘the land of medicinal herbs’**, and the people’s respect for the natural environment means that even today it remains pristine and mostly undisturbed. On sunny days, the inbound flight to Bhutan is marked by **panoramic views of the Himalayas, including the towering Everest**. The approach through the tiny airstrip of Paro has been termed as “adventurous”, to say the least! Arrival in the afternoon, after which we’ll check in to the hotel in Thimpu and have our first experience with fiery **Bhutanese cuisine**. Later we’ll visit Thimphu’s Memorial Stupa, also known as the **Thimphu Chorten**, a prominent religious landmark in the city with its golden spires and bells. Afterwards we’ll take a short 3-4km hike to Kuensel Phodrang, reaching the **gigantic Buddha Dordenma** at the top of the hill. The **50-meter-high, gilt gold** **statue** fulfils an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D. and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world. Overnight in Thimpu. **DAY 2 :: MAY 27** Today we drive via Dochu-La Pass to Punakha and hike to iconic **Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility),** located on a round hillock on the edge of Punakha Valley. After lunch our exploration continues with a visit to the majestic **Punakha Dzong fortress**, a stunning example of traditional Bhutanese architecture which serves as a winter residence for the Dratshang Lhentshog, the commission for the monastic affairs of Bhutan. Built in 1637, it is picturesquely located in between two rivers – the **Pho Chhu (Male River) & Mo Chhu (Female River)** – and houses sacred Buddhist relics. We’ll then take a walk along the **Punakha suspension bridge**, Bhutan’s longest, stretching 180 m (590 ft) across the water of the Pho Chhu, before checking into the hotel and resting up for the evening. **DAY 3 :: MAY 28** Today after breakfast and formalities we’ll drive to the **Dochula Pass (3,100m)** and begin the hike to the 18th century **Lungchutse Lhakhang temple (3,565m)**. This uber picturesque route passes through primary forests of rhododendrons, magnolias, birches, and bamboos, and occasionally meadows being used as yak pastures. When we reach the temple we’ll be richly rewarded by views over the **entire span of Bhutan’s Himalayan range** and its majestic, snow covered peaks. We will then make our way downhill for about an hour until we reach Dochula Pass, encountering several landmarks and stupas along the path. In the afternoon we will have an opportunity to witness **rural life in Bhutanese village,** and those who would like to can experience a **traditional** **hot stone bath**. For even richer immersion, there is also the option to spend the night in the village. **DAY 4 :: MAY 29** After breakfast we’ll start our last hike, to the sacred **Taktsang Monastery**, known as **the Tiger’s Nest,** situated at an altitude of 3100m in the Upper Paro Valley. During the hike we’ll keep our strength up with a picnic lunch in the woods with spectacular views. Our ancient destination is the abode of gods and monks, a place of great spiritualty since the 8th century. As per the legend of Taktsang, this was the site of a cave in the sheer cliff face used by mystic Guru Rinpoche for meditation. He assumed a wrathful form, Guru Dorji Drolo, riding a flying tigress to subdue the evil spirits in the area. After many centuries, a religious complex took shape here, clinging to the rock face, with the oldest temple built by a Nyingma Buddhist master around 1508. **DAY 5 :: MAY 30** Departure to Kathmandu at 11:40-12:40. Bye bye Bhutan! Short, optional city tour in Kathmandu before recommended return flight at 19:55. Back home at 22:55. **Level of difficulty:** Easy - short but steep trails. The grade may be perceived as moderate to beginners. **Activities:** hiking, walking, sightseeing and getting amazed! Whether you're a painter, sculptor, photographer, or mixed media artist, this group is the perfect place to connect with like-minded individuals, have a space to work on your craft, and showcase your work. Let's inspire and support each other on our artistic journeys! Whether you're a novice or a seasoned artist, all skill levels are welcome. Join us and unleash your creativity! Afterwards, we will have time to work on our individual art projects, hang out, and if anyone is interested in feedback on their work, there will be time for that as well.

Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 11 at Streetlight Guild. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. **SCHEDULE:** 6:45ish - Quick introductions 7:00 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour 8:00 - The End **OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING** happens before and after the writing hour. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. **BEING LATE IS OKAY:** just show up and get settled! If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
