Bayside Crunchy Monday (Elsternwick)
Play board games with around 20 people on 5+ tables in Elsternwick. Friendly. Inclusive. Free entry, Crunchy Euro and Thematic games. Close to public transport and free parking. Exclusive use of a function room with good lighting at the Caulfield RSL.
Games are sometimes organised in advance on our WhatsApp group or in the Aftergame app:
https://aftergame.app/groups/bayside-games-1853
However most games are organised following a brief discussion at the venue on the Monday night.
Recently we have played the following games:
Euros: Brass, Dune Imperium, Anachrony, Endeavor Deep Sea, Inis, On Mars, Ark Nova, Galactic Cruise, Viticulture, Scythe, Concordia, Terra Mystica, Gaia Project, Terraforming Mars, Castles of Burgundy, Lost Ruins of Arnak and Grand Austria Hotel, and Orleans
Economic: Indonesia, Food Chain Magnate, Bus, Irish Gauge and Container.
Thematic: Voidfall, Dune (Original), Root, Eclipse, Nemesis, Spirit Island, Undaunted, Chaos in the Old World, The Godfather, Spartacus and Dominant Species.
**Arrive early**
The best time to arrive is around 6:50pm as people discuss which games they would like to play before starting longer games at 7:00pm. Arrive early and we can ensure that you are included in a game. However, should you arrive after 7:00pm you may need to wait for games to finish to be included, or if people are playing long games, it might not be practical to start a new game.
**Full bar and snacks available**
The Caulfield RSL generously provide the venue free of charge. A selection of food and drinks are available for purchase at the bar. Note that only food or drink purchased at the RSL can be consumed at the venue.
We look forward to seeing you!

Tricky Tuesday @ The Peacock Inn
Welcome to the **Tricky Tuesday** Meet Up! This is a smaller event in most respects - smaller capacity, smaller games - but still the same sized fun! Come join us to learn a new game and meet some new people.
* This event was created primarily to play and explore **modern** **trick taking games** and **smaller card games** which can be played on more limited table space.
* As this is a smaller event, please note it is a bit more casual. Find the group at the table/s, come over and join - we're a welcoming bunch.
* Please **bring some games** to this event if you can and be prepared to teach them if you do. **There are** **no games available at the venue** but I will always bring a few.
Please consider others when coming and in the lead up to the event. We want as many people there as possible. If you are unable to attend mark yourself as such as soon as you can so others can be notified and attend.
There's an FAQ below but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.
Your tricky friend,
Dave
**FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS**
**What is a trick taking game? Good question you handsome person.**
* Generally speaking, a trick taking game is a card game which is played in a series of rounds known as ***tricks***.
* Each trick is evaluated to determine a winner or ***taker*** of that trick and then will usually start - or ***lead*** *-* the next trick.
* The goal is usually tied to either winning or losing a number of tricks. This may also come in the form of you guessing how many tricks you will win - known as a ***bid***.
* Some games may have a suit that always wins - known as a ***trump***.
* Most trick taking games are **competitive** needing between 3-5 players, others are **cooperative**, there are also solo and two-player trick taking games as well!
* Popular trick taking/trick taking adjacent games you may have heard of: [The Crew](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/324856/the-crew-mission-deep-sea), [Skull King](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/150145/skull-king), [Cat in the Box](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/345972/cat-in-the-box-deluxe-edition), [Scout](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/291453/scout), [Fox in the Forest](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/221965/the-fox-in-the-forest), the classic games of [Spades](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/592/spades) and [Hearts](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/6887/hearts),
**What makes a Trick Taking game fun?**
* There's so much to trick taking games! They're generally quick to teach, quick to play, have interesting decision spaces, and a wide variety of novelty. Even the classics though can be played thousands of times without getting tiresome. Part of the fun is in the interaction with others, assessing their moves and countering them, and how to win (or lose) at the right times. You have to stay on your toes, adapt frequently, and keep tabs on the other players, what they have played, and what they may play next!
**Do I need to know how to play/have played a trick taking game before?**
* Not at all, but it is good to understand the basics and general terminology so you can pick things up a bit easier on the night. You can check out [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O7QyhKmCsk) for a bit of a general breakdown .
**Is this event free?**
* Yes, but please support the venue by purchasing a drink or two.
**I'm on the waitlist can I still come?**
* Unfortunately, no. We have limited capacity and must abide by it.
**I don't have a game to bring, is that okay?**
* Generally it will be okay, but it is encouraged to bring and share a game where you can! You can always bring a standard deck of cards or tarot cards and learn a card game or two as well!
**Can I bring a guest?**
* Unfortunately, unless they have signed up too it won't be possible. We have a strict limit on guests and the event would fill up too quickly otherwise.
**How do I get to the venue?**
* The 86 Tram is your best bet and has a stop pretty much right outside of the venue.
* There are two train stations (Westgarth and Northcote) which are within walking distance.
* Parking is available in the area but can get busy. If you don't mind a little walk there is parking down the adjacent street.
**Dave, I worry you will win all the games we play. Such an intelligent and beautiful man, you must be a master of the tricks, is this true?**
* Firstly - thank-you for the kind words, but secondly - no. I suck at trick taking games and lose more than I win. Yet, I enjoy them for their variety, high interaction, and quick nature regardless. You will be fine if you don't take things too seriously. It's about fun and meeting people... (but if you do beat me too often I will ban you from the group and venue...).
Tigerland Trumpsters - First one for 2026
6pm start. $2 gold coin entry per person.
Please order dinner at the bar when you arrive and let the staff know you are with the card group in the Dining Room. Meals are served around 7:15pm. Happy Hour drinks are available until 7pm.
After a dinner break we shuffle the teams around so you get to meet, and play with new people.
Games are played as 4 handed wherever possible, but an occasional 3,5 or 6 handed game is required based on the number of attendees.
If you are a beginner or have minimal experience playing 500, please let your host know before starting a game, and feel free to ask them any question. Ahead of the event you might like to download one of the 500 card game apps on your phone to get familiar with the game. There are also some Youtube videos.
Board Game Night at Marchรฉ
Whether you're looking for a short, light game or a longer strategy-heavy game, come join the Melbourne Asian Board Gamers on Tuesday night at Marchรฉ Board Game Cafe for some fun!
To **check in**, please head to the front counter and show your RSVP for the Meetup event to a Marchรฉ staff member. They will then point you towards the event host for the evening to take down your attendance.
**โโโโโโโโโโ Cost โโโโโโโโโโ**
Attendees who have registered for the event on Meetup can play at discounted rates, with the following payments to be made:
* **$7 in total per sessionโ to cover Meetup subscription and cafe costs. Payment of $7 should be made to Marche at the front counter upon notification to the staff member that you are here for the scheduled meetup.
There is now no minimum spend on items at the cafe as there were before.
The cafes menu can be found here https://mbgcafe.com.au/menu.pdf .

**Attendance**
As our events are highly popular, if you have RSVP as going but can no longer attend, please amend your RSVP to allow others a chance to attend. We appreciate everyone's understanding and co-operation.
We really appreciate your support and look forward to playing with you.
NSEG - Northern Suburbs Eurogamers
The Northern Suburbs Eurogamers (NSEG) is a regular meetup held at [Croxton Park Hotel](https://www.croxtonparkhotel.com.au/) on selected Sundays (view the current year dates [below](https://meeples.org.au/nseg/#dates)).
Running since 2012, NSEG is an established group, but we always love playing with new people.
### Where do we play?
The meetup is held at Croxton Park Hotel.
We meet in the Bistro, just near the fireplace, so itโs lovely and warm.

### What sort of games do we play?
We play:
* Games for beginners (which we call gateway games) like Ticket To Ride, Carcassonne, Splendour, Small World and King of Tokyo.
* Strategy (Euro) games like Power Grid, Lords of Waterdeep, Village, Imperial and Suburbia.
* Thematic games (that involve lots of dice and role play) like Betrayal at House on the Hill and Dead of Winter.
* Party Games (quick and easy games) like Resistance, Spyfall and Timeโs Up.
* Card Games like Love Letter, Uno, Fluxx, Bohanza, Red7, Fuji Flush, Munchkin.
And much much more! If you have a game you love, bring it along and show usโฆ maybe weโve never heard of it and will love it too!
We do a rules explanation before each game (unless everyone has played it before) so donโt worry if youโve never played (or heard) of any of these games.
### How about food and Drinks?
The Croxtonโs kitchen has all the pub classics and tasty little bitesโฆ check out the [Menu](https://www.facebook.com/pg/CroxtonParkHotel/menu).
The bar also serves drinks, both soft and hardโฆ plus tea and coffee.
### Do I have to be a Melbourne Meeples Inc. Member to attend?
No, though if you are not a member, we do ask that you pay a small donation (we suggest $3) to help cover the cost of the games library and the Melbourne Meeples Inc support structure.
And you can always [become a member](http://meeples.org.au/membership/)!
### How to get there
The Croxton is located at [407 High St, Thornbury](https://goo.gl/maps/s7yePRZ8meL2).
* **By Car:** If youโre driving there is a carpark on the opposite side of the road.
* **By Tram:** you can jump on the [Route 86](http://ptv.vic.gov.au/route/view/1881) and get off near Darebin Road (Stop #36) or Woolton Ave (Stop #37).
* **By Train:** Croxton Railway Station is a brisk 400m walk away.
Snooker/Pool @ the Red Triangle
Meet at the Red Triangle in Fitzroy to play pool. If there are multiple people interested in snooker, we can open up a snooker table.
The host will pay for table hire at the end of the event, then we'll split the cost along with a small addition in order to help cover the Meetup fees (+$2 per person per event) - so please bring $10-15 cash or be prepared to pay via PayID. The host will arrive early and secure a table for us to meet at. See you there!
**Please update your RSVP if you can't make it!**
Rules:
In case any rule needs clarification, we play according to the World Eightball Pool Federation rules (https://www.wepf.org/docs/rules_2019.pdf). The most relevant rules are:
1. Fouls result in two visits being awarded to the opponent. That means the shots "carry on" if balls are potted.
2. Committing a foul on the same shot that the Eight Ball is potted results in losing the game. Potting the cue ball while on the Eight Ball does not result in losing.
3. After the cue ball is potted, the next player can play the cue ball in any direction from baulk (the rectangular area at the top of the rable sectioned off by a line).
PARKING:
There is paid parking here - https://goo.gl/maps/f73ro6uGhjG6e7Cv7. Free parking is difficult to find around that area, but usually there are spots around here: https://goo.gl/maps/18xLmb6htMQSbvbN7.
Please note: the venue is not wheelchair-accessible, and requires climbing \~6 short flights of stairs.
๐น๐ฝ๏ธ Make New Friends Over Conversation Games ๐ฝ๏ธ๐น
It's time for "Listen Up", our favourite conversation game that helps turn strangers into friends! Join us for a drink and some nibbles while we have fun and make friends.
For those who haven't played it before, Listen Upโข is a unique conversational board game that tests your listening skills and inspires deeper connections between participants.
There are 3 categories of questions you can get asked depending on the round!
(1) ๐ Just for fun: all kinds of fun questions from if you were a candy or crayon what would you be to what's your fave smell in the world? ๐
(2) ๐ Share: Cause sharing is caring! Starting to get into the deeper questions like if you have a bad day would you prefer to be left alone or have someone cheer you up? ๐
(3) ๐ Listen Up!: Aha this is where all the deep questions are!
(Juz and Nicole will be coming straight from work and will likely be there early. If you want join us for a bite to eat, send a message and we'll keep an eye out for you.)

๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ:
โข Let's keep things respectful. Our group has a diverse range of members and we get along great! This is because we accept one another, avoid insensitive comments, try to keep swearing to a minimum, and steer clear of gossip and mindless venting.
โข Please be punctual. Our hosts will check the Meetup page and post their location upon arrival before redirecting their attention to the people present. If you are late (more than 5 min), donโt expect to be able to reach them as they may not check their phone. Please allow enough time for travel and parking. (On that note, we don't organise carpooling because of various liability issues.)
โข If you say you're going to come, then please actually come. Many of our events end up waitlisted so if you claim a spot and don't show up, then someone else might miss out. Attendees who don't show up (or cancel their RSVP within 12 hours of the event) will be flagged as "no-shows". Repeat "no-showers" will be banned from the group to make space for more reliable attendees.
โข We want to keep all our members safe and healthy so if you are unwell, then please stay home. If you need to cancel within the 12 hour "no show" window, please send a courtesy message to the event host.
โข Please don't come if you are just looking to hit people up for your own agenda. Our members are so much more than followers for your Instagram account, customers for your Herbalife business, or people for your Forex empire. In our community, we are about adding value to one another. If you are just coming with a self-serving agenda, then we aren't your crowd.
โข And finally, this isn't a great group for people who like wallowing in life's problems. We choose positivity and gratitude, so bring some with you!

Board games at The Forge
The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~$20 per person. Soft drink refills are $1 each. Please support our hosts so we can continue to provide great events for the group!
The Forge has a large library of games available for us to enjoy. Hosts and regulars will also provide numerous popular games but please bring any games you would like to teach and/or play.
Doors open at 6, and we expect gaming to be rolling by around 630. Please promptly end your games and clear out the space at 10pm when the bar closes.
We encourage socializing but do not permit disruptive behavior of any kind. Thank you for your continued commitment to providing a fun and welcoming space to veteran, newbie, and rookie gamers in the Columbus area.
Parking can be challenging. There is a parking lot behind the neighboring Mexican restaurant that is free and easy to walk from but it's a bit hidden.
Casual Boardgames - make friends, then beat them in games
Welcome to Casual Boardgames, where we enjoy classic tabletop games and social deduction games while bonding over good food, drinks, and great conversations.
โฉWe started this group to meet new people and make new friends, and bonding over games in a relaxed atmosphere is a great way to do that.
We currently meet near route 23 and Polaris Parkway, and this is close to areas like Powell, Lewis Center, Worthington, and parts of Westerville and Columbus.
โฉFeel free to bring your own games or play one of the many games our members bring. If you are inexperienced, we will help you learn.
โฉHere are just a few examples of the kind of games we play.
โฉTabletop/board games: Splendor, Catan, Azul, Dominion, 7 Wondersโฆ
โฉSocial deduction games: Code Names, Chameleon, Werewordsโฆ
โฉIMPORTANT:
โฉ1. While we love playing a variety of games and competing, we are not just about the games. We interact and talk while playing, and this leads to a lot of laughter and fun. If you just want to compete and focus solely on the game, then this is probably not the group you are looking for.
โฉ2. Many people join groups like this and never (or rarely) show up after weeks or months. If you join and never really come, we will eventually remove you from the group as a courtesy to our members. Why? Because limiting group conversations (on the app) to regular members makes communication and planning much easier. Also, while it may be rare, it protects members from people who join because they are interested in following a person instead of having a real interest in our group. If you get removed, it is just because you havenโt come, and we follow this protocol as a courtesy to our regular game players.
Pickleball.
COLUMBUS RECREATION CENTERS require membership fee to play. Register & Pay at the desk when you arrive. $5 day pass is available.
I have some extra pickle ball paddles and balls if you donโt have one. Definitely bring your own paddle if you have one and bring some balls if you have them.
