The **Toronto Guitar Meetup** is proud to announce our **Monthly Open Jam Night** **for musicians of every instrument including all ages and levels of players - guitar, bass, drums, vocals, keyboards etc.** Moving forward we now have **3 Open Stages**. **One for Advanced Musicians, One for Intermediate Players and One for Late Beginner / Early Intermediate Players**. Each stage will have a minimum of 1 or 2 instructors facilitating the jam. Also we will have limits now for each type of instrument so please R.V.S.P. in advance to avoid disappointment. **ABOUT THE TORONTO GUITAR MEETUP'S JAM NIGHTS** Due to our location, right in the heart of the biggest music scene in the country, as well as our access to top of the line equipment for performance and recording, the Toronto Guitar Meetup is uniquely positioned to offer incredible jamming opportunities for the Toronto music community. For ease of convenience we have binders with music charts for each specific instrument (e.g. piano, guitar, bass, drums, voice, saxophone, trumpet, ukulele etc.) to make it easier to play the tunes together. We are constantly updating and improving our song lists so if there is a piece you think should be added to our rehearsal binder please let us know and we will do our best to add it in time for the next session. While music instructors will be present at the jam, they are not there to direct the Open Jam, assign songs, or any other heavy handed roles. Instructors are present at the event in case that a musician or band should want advice or assistance and to make sure things run smoothly without technical glitches or any other major issues. **WHAT IT COSTS** If you are already a student of Mint Music or The Toronto Guitar School the discounted rate for the Open Jam is $10. For anyone else the rate is $15. This amount is paid upfront before you enter any of our rehearsal rooms. You will find that we have many people participating in our jam nights so please bring exact change to speed up the payment process. All fees go towards helping cover the cost of the rooms, upkeep of equipment, and instructor fees for the evening. **WHO CAN PLAY?** Our Open Jam is accessible to all ages. I'm a writer and lover of role playing games. I'm also out of shape. I've been looking for ways to motivate myself to start working out with the same enthusiasm I bring to my Dungeons & Dragons campaign. The plan is simple: host a fun, live role playing game where players take on the role of their favourite fantasy characters. The catch? You need to exercise if you want to succeed. Fighting a dragon? A fireball might cost you 5 pushups. Crossing a rooftop? Can you balance on one foot for a minute? By combining simple, low impact exercises, including walking & stretching, with an interactive adventure, we'll all get healthier, have fun and maybe meet some new friends along the way. All fitness levels are welcome (as are dogs), and no previous knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons is necessary. We meet in front of Broadview subway station at 10:00 am sharp and then walk to the Outdoor Fitness Station in Riverdale Park East (there are washrooms). At 11:30 we start walking west, through the park, ending at the Blake House Restaurant * (Wellesley & Jarvis) by 12:30. All sessions are free and I’ll be running them through the summer. Join us to drum for rain! The drum circle will be at the Guru Rinpoche statue at the entrance to the Peace Park, across the street from the temple. We will be chanting sacred mantras as we drum, praying for abundant rain to ease the drought. All are welcome! Please bring any percussion instruments you have - the more the merrier! If you don't have any drums, there are typically extra available. Either way, you can chant along with everyone. In the event of inclement weather, we usually drum as long as we can before the storm starts, or wait it out and start a little late. We hold out until the last minute to cancel so if the weather seems iffy, keep an eye on our Facebook page for announcements. The DC region is currently experiencing moderate to severe drought. **DRUMMING WORKSHOP with LABYRINTH WALK and DRUM CIRCLE** Hosted by Iris McCray, facilitated by Mark Sawasky Rain or shine, we will be indoors and outdoors weather permitting. **July's workshop is about the** '***Spirit of the Frame Drum'*** *"Join us for an afternoon of music, movement, and joy! In the first hour, we will guide you* *through exercises to relax physical and mental tension and release vitality. This will* *include a frame drumming workshop and labyrinth walk to center our spirit. Everyone* *will play one of Mark’s frame drums, and no previous experience is required.* *We’ll begin this journey by beating a steady pulse, then slowly and intentionally, we’ll* *build our unison rhythm to ground us as a group and strengthen our sound. As our* *creative spirits spark, we will begin to explore polyrhythms and experience overtone* *vibrations. By day, Mark is an elementary school music teacher in Fairfax County, and on the second Friday of every month, he facilitates “Drum Jam Free” in Alexandria’s Ben Brenman Park. Mark’s drum circles incorporate rhythms from Africa, Spain, South America, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, and have a signature blend of unison grooves and individual self-expression.* *As a founding member of the award-winning Immigrant Suns, Mark published six full-length albums and toured nationally. He has recorded with artists such as Eastern Winds (Middle Eastern), Odu Afro-Beat Orchestra, and Musique Noir (world jazz), and has toured internationally with the flamenco group, La Chispa.* *Mark has been a guest performer with the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Orchestra and the 257th Army Band. He has also taught ensemble percussion courses at George Mason University and Fairfax County Parks, and has been an instructor at Northern Virginia Community College Summer Music Camp and Harmonia School of Music.* **Meet Your Hosts:** The Workshop and Drumming Circle will be held at the air conditioned JOY2B Sound Works Studio on the grounds of Iris & Calvin McCray. Iris McCray, certified in Sound Healing since 2019 provides public and private Sound Baths in the DMV area, is best known for her ongoing monthly Sound Bath series at the Workhouse Arts Center since 2023. Finally - after a six month break the Music Cave is back in operation. Please join June 20. Friendly get-togethers to play music, sing, drum, and learn. Musicians, singers, professionals, amateurs, beginners, all musical levels and all kinds of instruments welcome. We have informal/casual gatherings where you can enjoy playing music and singing with other members, can meet friendly people, and get inspired by others. Every meeting is adifferent combination! All musical levels, including beginners, are welcome, so long as you enjoy it! Bring extra instruments if you have them. Please come with 2 or 3 songs in mind that you would like to learn or play. Do not use the front door. Enter through the gate to the left rear of the house and the basement.
