Hello Everyone! This is the make up date for the national portrait gallery in DC since I cancelled the event in January that was supposed to happen due to snow! My advice to get there is take the metro which should be easier to get there! We will meet outside of the gallery building and then walk in you may go at your own pace we do not have to stick together!

Join the Nordic Culture And Language Exchange Meetup group this Saturday, 28 March, from 3-5pm to learn about cherry blossom viewing/festivals and how Hanami (“flower viewing”) is celebrated in the Nordic countries. We’ll learn about Kirsikkapuisto Cherry Park in the Roihuvuori section of Helsinki and the cherry trees planted by Icelandic-Japanese organizations in Hljómskálagarður Park in Reykjavík, Iceland. We’ll also explore celebrations at Kungsträdgården in Stockholm, Sakura Vårmarked in Oslo, and Copenhagen’s Sakura Festival in Langelinie Park. We will then practice our Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, and Swedish conversation skills. After the Meetup event at the Ronald Reagan Trade Center food court, we’ll make an optional trek (about .5 mile walk) over to see the beautiful Washington DC cherry blossoms and take photos! \*Cherry Blossom season is always very busy with cars blocking roads/traffic, so it’s highly encouraged to use Metro/leave extra time. For our March meetup the Shelties will investigate Theodore Sheltievelt -er- Roosevelt Island, DC. This 88 acre island is connected to the mainland by a footbridge on the Virginia side. We plan to meet by this bridge at 11am and proceed to explore the network of trails and memorial site thereafter. This will be an on-leash event. This weekend is peak blossom. TIME IS TIME TO REACH THE JEFFERSON BASED ON WHEN AND WHERE YOU FIND PARKING. We will gather at the Jefferson Memorial at 11:30 am. From the memorial we will keep our traditional path if allowed all the way to the MLK starting around noon. Keep in mind parking and traffic can be a nightmare so we will try to go on the weekend the weather forecast looks best. I am tentatively putting it the same weekend as the 10 Miler since parking turns over as soon as the race ends. A few blocks to the east on Water Street (next to the Lowes Theatre) is a parking garage. Biking There are bike racks at the boathouse, so we encourage you to bike, paddle and bike some more! Please bring your own locks. We are very close to the Capital Crescent Trail. What to Wear and Bring Water, sunscreen, clothes you don't mind getting a li'l wet, and a great attitude!
