Open Discussion Meetup: Understanding Gen Z
🌍 Open Discussion Meetup: Understanding Gen Z
For our next meetup, we’re opening the conversation beyond books and diving into a broader discussion about Gen Z, the generation shaping culture, identity, work, relationships, politics, technology, and social life in rapidly changing times.
How does Gen Z view the world differently?
What pressures are young people facing today?
How are social media, mental health, identity, dating, work expectations, and global uncertainty shaping an entire generation?
Rather than a formal debate, this will be an open, thoughtful, and respectful exchange of ideas and experiences. The goal is not to “win” discussions, but to better understand the realities, frustrations, hopes, and contradictions surrounding Gen Z today.
Whether you’re Gen Z yourself, a parent, teacher, researcher, or simply curious about generational change, you’re very welcome to join.
📅 Date: Saturday, 13 June
⏰ Time: 11:30
📍 Venue: Carpe Diem, Avenue de Tervuren 13, 1040 Brussels
Expect an engaging and relaxed conversation over coffee, with people from different backgrounds and perspectives.
As always, those who wish can stay for lunch afterwards.
🏡 Meetup Ground Rules
1️⃣ Everyone is welcome, regardless of background or generation
2️⃣ We listen to understand, not to win
3️⃣ Curiosity, respect, and openness come first
Looking forward to another lively and meaningful exchange of ideas.

Truer than the truth: how to use figurative language
This is a paid event, and the registration via Wordcraft's website[ is obligatory.](https://www.wordcraft-collective.eu/courses/truer-than-the-truth%3A-how-to-use-figurative-language)
At its simplest, figurative language is a way of saying that one thing is (like) another thing. It is saying that X is Y by comparing them both to Z. By using figures like metaphors, similes and even personification, we express an idea with playfulness and wonder, while at the same time attempting to get as close as possible to its core truth.
📅Date and time: 13 June, 11:00-13:00 CET
📍Venue: Pianofabriek, Rue du Fort 35, 1060 Saint-Gilles
💰Price: €25 Eur (non-member) €20 Eur (Member).
This workshop is intended not just for poets and writers, but anyone who would like to test and widen their linguistic horizons. Nowadays, when the quantity of written content is overproduced, but its quality is diminished, the workshop provides an opportunity to approach one's expression with freshness and innate curiosity.
We will look at how different figures appear in poetry, prose and everyday language, engage in interactive exercises and immediately apply the newly-acquired skills in free writing. The workshop is aimed at native and near-native English speakers.

Museum visit - Expo Postcolonial
Hello there little sprouts 🌱🌱
Join us for another expo visit at the "House Of The European History" museum for a temporary exhibit called: **Postcolonial?** Where we dive more in depth into the colonial history and current day implications for a lot of countries and people
Unique artworks, historical objects and personal stories accompany the visitor throughout this much-needed European reckoning with colonialism. Entrance is free. No booking required for groups of 10 or less.
Following the Second World War, colonial power seemed to crumble. From 1945 to the end of the twentieth century, more than 80 colonies overcame European rule and declared independence. After decades or even centuries of resistance to brutal oppression, their victories appeared to mark a decisive break with the past. But appearances can be deceiving.
How did the colonial matrix of power – the ideas, events, inequalities and injustices born of colonialism – continue to shape the modern world?
You'll find out in this expo
As always: Pay 5 Euro for attending this activity (on top of the 15 EUR entrance fee) to Yifei Yang or 40 EUR for an annual membership
Beneficiary: Yifei Yang
IBAN: BE79 6509 1524 4133
Hope to see you all there! We can go for drinks and snacks (dinner) after the expo as usual :-)
Climb & Chill 🧗♂️☕️
What's up Friends! 👋
Ready for some bouldering fun? Boulder-what? 🤔 It’s climbing (FR: escalade, le bloc) up to 4.5m high without ropes—and in my case, without much hope! 😂✨
It’s a super fun indoor activity, but be warned: it does require a certain level of physical fitness and/or skill. Most importantly, though, it requires awesome company—which we’ve got! 😎
The Idea:
📍 Meeting Point: For those arriving at 17:00, we’ll meet at the cafeteria (next to the billiards table).
Feel free to start earlier or later—just drop me a message or write in the group chat so we can meet up.
💪 Stay & climb as long as you want - venue closes at midnight!
🥤 Recharge: If you’ve had enough climbing for the day (we usually do this after 2 hours of climbing), we may head back to the cafeteria (or to the rooftop if it's sunny🌤️) for snacks, drinks & games. Cafeteria closes at 22:00.

**A MESSAGE FOR NEWCOMERS:**
*In the three years of hosting this coffee group, I have met many people who struggle with anxieties when coming to an event for the first time. Sometimes, it took them more than one attempt before being able to join.*
*Occasionally, people reach out to me before the event, and I have always been grateful for that as it offers the opportunity to communicate with each other and to find the best and most gentle way for that person to join the group.*
*I would like to encourage everyone who struggles with this to contact me before. It would really be too bad if you can't join us, as it mostly gets better the second or third time you come.*
*In addition to that, if you arrive and notice any signs of nervousness or fear, you can always let me know right then.*

Deep Conversation - Question Chosen in Session
How do we connect to people? What is so great about being different? Is love selfless? Should we be dreamers or realists? What values are we losing? When are we at our best? Does childhood ever end? Is morality a matter of convenience? What makes a person beautiful?
Such questions, and many more, await you Sunday at Sister's Cafe (second floor) . After introductions we will collect questions from the group participants, choose one by voting then discuss it for an hour. Then most of us stay for drinks and bizarre conversations :-).

The Cash-Flow Breakfast Club is NOT just a meet up. It’s the most unique Real Estate Investor Community of Mentors, Coaches & Masterminds. A community of growth oriented, abundance mindset, go-giver individuals with a BARE MINIMUM commitment to become financially free through real estate investing.
We focus on providing education and building networks to help every member solve their cash-flow freedom equation, so they can have the time-freedom needed to follow their passions, make a lasting impact and even change the world! The unique format of this event, which consists of high-level education, gamified networking, mastermind breakout sessions, case studies, group deal analysis, market deep dives, and peer-to-peer coaching facilitation makes this the most impactful local real estate investor group a real estate investor can be a part of.
The foundation of the group is built around the belief that everyone in the room has the potential to change the world… however most of us never have the time, energy or financial situation to even dare to dream big enough. Most of us have passions that will never be followed, amazing businesses or ideas that will never be pursued… unless we can solve the Cash-Flow Freedom Equation, which ultimately leads to Time-Freedom. Once that happens it is usually much easier for us to think bigger, dream bigger, be bigger.

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Can Artificial Intelligence “See”?
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Can Artificial Intelligence ‘See’?”** A look at how humans and artificial intelligence systems interpret the visual world in fundamentally different ways, with Arryn Robbins, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Richmond and cognitive scientist who researches visual attention, perception, and category learning.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-can-AI-see](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-can-AI-see) .]
Artificial intelligence can now identify faces, categorize objects, describe scenes, and outperform humans on certain visual tasks. But does AI actually “see” the world the way that people do? Or does it arrive at correct answers using representations that differ markedly from human perception?
Join Arryn Robbins of the University of Richmond for a fascinating exploration of how humans and AI construct meaning from visual information and a look at comparisons between human perception and AI that reveal just how dynamic and context-dependent our own visual systems really are.
Dr. Robbins, who previously has given excellent Profs and Pints talks on flaws and biases in human visual perception, will draw from research in cognitive science, visual perception, and AI vision systems.
She’ll explain how human perception is not merely a simple recording of the world, but an active process shaped by expectations, context, goals, and recent experience. You’ll learn how humans form flexible mental representations that allow us to recognize objects across changing environments and conditions, and why those representations continuously adapt as we interact with the world.
Many AI systems, by contrast, learn visual categories through statistical patterns in data. They can produce impressive results, but sometimes they also produce strange and unexpected failures, and sometimes they classify images in ways that seem strange to us.
Dr. Robbins will discuss what these differences reveal about the nature of perception itself, and why the mismatch between human and AI representations matters for technologies like self-driving cars, medical imaging, facial recognition, and automated surveillance.
Important for anyone trying to understand the rapidly growing role of AI in daily life, this talk will explore one of the biggest questions in cognitive science and artificial intelligence: What does it actually mean to “see” and understand the world? (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.)
