MMOA monthly meeting
MMOA monthly meeting
This is an amazing support group and charity advocating for ostomates. I have learned a great deal from this group over the years. I wish I had known of them and connected before my surgery as well. Primary info hub: https://www.marylandostomy.org Email: [info@MarylandOstomy.org](mailto:info@marylandostomy.org) * Hybrid in-person and Zoom meeting. * Second Monday at noon every month except May and August. * Ignore any Meetup attendee limits - that's a Meetup account restriction, not an MMOA attendance limit. If Meetup says we are "full", feel free to email us or just show up. * Don't worry if Meetup doesn't show many attendees either. We usually have a dozen in person and more on Zoom with none actually using Meetup. We are experimenting with Meetup for community outreach. You won't be alone (<: **Typical Agenda** * Check-in * Welcome & new attendee introductions * Announcements * Featured speaker, if we have one * Medical experts, ostomy product updates, others * General discussion with members, nurses, guests, MMOA board * Occasional special focus topics * With enough present can split into Ostomy category subgroups * Most often open discussion with topics raised by attendees **Virtual info** See our website https://www.marylandostomy.org/copy-of-events for Zoom connection information. **In-person info** Bottom floor of hospital in meeting rooms toward the right after check-in. They will want your ID - just tell them that you are attending a meeting. Paid parking in hospital garage, free weekend parking in neighborhood a block towards Georgia Ave (not on street adjacent to hospital). Or park at Forest Glen Metro, also free on weekends, and walk 1/2 mile.
Quads & Doubles Volleyball - Competitive BB+/A
Quads & Doubles Volleyball - Competitive BB+/A
Let's get together to play some competitive quads and doubles volleyball. **COST**: FREE **Court Type**: Outdoor grass **Minimum Skill Requirements**: BB+ (click [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PojSi4qdlRsv1msCHhvpQ43iDc4FfzQwpWCc3kafVMY/mobilebasic) for details) Attention: 1. This event is **NOT on a first come-first serve** basis and players with higher skill level and players who can bring a net/ball will get priority over others on the wait list. 2. Since skill levels are **self-reported**, some new attendees may not meet the expected level. For doubles, we encourage you to choose a partner you can enjoy the game with, and since this a competitive event, it is okay if you make a strong team and win all the games. 3. Each person must help set up and take down one net, leaving some nets unset for latecomers. 4. Please answer all questions, so it's helpful for us to organize the event. **Smiley Social documents:** 1. Sun Morn Tennis Walter John 3.0-4.0 dbls
Hello members, • If you RSVP for an event, you will need to attend that event or cancel at least two hours before the event starts. Members that no-show will receive one warning then will be benched (suspended) from events for two weeks. Three no-shows can result in a permanent ban. (No-shows create uneven numbers and prevent folks on the waitlist from playing. Please do your part to un-RSVP as soon as you know that you cannot attend an event.) • Members must have a way to communicate with organizers and hosts. This can be through the Meetup app messages or by providing other contact info. • Any member can ask a host or organizer to have their skill rated for event attendance purposes. You will not be allowed to participate in events higher than your NTRP rating. (We may try to limit numbers or have multiple events on a given day to accommodate players of different skill levels and also to help alleviate the court availability problem). • All members shall conduct good sportsmanship and be courteous to other members at all times. • Sexual harassment, racism, sexism or any kind of intolerance will not be tolerated and will result in the permanent ban from the group. • If member receives three warning infractions, the member will be suspended from the Meetup for a period of one month. If a member is suspended twice (six warnings), that member will be permanently banned and any membership dues will then be forfeited. • If you are scheduling to play with others outside of a MoCo Topspinners event, and you know that there is a MoCo Topspinners event scheduled for that day at that time, please try to use courts other than the courts where the event is scheduled, or move your time so that it does not conflict with the Topspinners event. For a list of complete rules and definitions you can see the MoCo Topspinners front page. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We are hoping for a fun season but we may have to wait for courts and leave earlier than we are used to. Please be patient as we adjust to this new normal and try a few different things that will hopefully help the situation. Happy playing!

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The History of Plastic Surgery
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The History of Plastic Surgery
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“The History of Plastic Surgery,”** with Dr. Wendy Chen, plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgeon and assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-plastic-surgery](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-plastic-surgery) .] Most people misunderstand plastic surgery as vain and aesthetic, but the origins of this fascinating specialty are much deeper than that. Come gain a rich understanding of the roots, medical impact, and current wide reach of a life-altering medical specialty with Dr. Wendy Chen, a leading educator on plastic and reconstructive surgery who has won awards for her work in clinical, basic science and education research. She’ll talk about how reconstructive surgery has been around for thousands of years, with evidence of it having been practiced in ancient Egypt and India, and has made advancements in the course of major wars. Those who practice it have been innovators in medicine, playing a major role in breakthroughs and winning the Nobel prize for kidney transplantation. The need for plastic and reconstructive surgery has stemmed largely from how much our appearance influences how we navigate our worlds and how others regard us. There was a time, in fact, when people in American prisons were offered plastic surgery as an intervention against recidivism. Yet reconstructive surgery also has faced opposition, such as religious bans on its practice stemming from the belief that physical differences are a manifestation of spiritual sin. Fast forward to now when plastic surgeons treat patients of every age for every kind of ailment, from congenital differences to trauma to cancer. Yes, some plastic and reconstructive surgery is to help people conform to tabloid- and social media-driven narratives of what defines beauty, but the field involves a lot more than injecting Botox and shaping buttocks. ( Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.) Systemic Constellation Workshop
Systemic Constellation Workshop
*Sometimes what keeps you stuck is not yours alone to carry.* In a **Systemic or Family Constellation workshop**, your inner world is brought out of abstraction and into living form. Instead of staying caught in cycles of overthinking, your challenge is mapped into physical space, revealing the hidden relationships, forces, and emotional patterns shaping your experience. As representatives step into different parts of your system, unconscious material begins to speak through sensation, posture, emotion, and impulse. What emerges is not merely insight but a direct encounter with the deeper structure beneath the issue. This work often reveals **hidden loyalties, interrupted bonds, inherited patterns, and unseen dynamics** that the mind alone can’t always access. By working through image, body, and energetic field, Family Constellation reaches layers of the psyche beyond words, creating shifts that can feel profoundly immediate. But this isn’t only about uncovering pain. It’s about reconnecting with what has always been within you: **strength, belonging, dignity, resilience, and ancestral support.** *If you’re ready for clarity, healing, and a new way forward, this work can open the door.* ✨ 💫 **Must register online FEE: $65** **Learn more and register** [here!](https://www.tealcenter.com/classes-and-events/)
Capoeira
Capoeira
Capoeira (capo-way-ra) is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that is unlike any other martial art. Capoeira incorporates flowing movements with kicks, dodges, and some acrobatics. It is often mistaken for a dance for those reasons. Since it’s origins in the 17th century, it has evolved from a secret fighting practice into an art emphasizing self-expression and community celebration. It is great for the body and mind! In addition to gaining strength and flexibility in class, students learn about Brazilian culture, history, and language (Portuguese). On November 26, 2014 capoeira was granted a special protected status as "intangible cultural heritage” by UNESCO. No need to have a Capoeira background to join this class, just an open mind to try out a new way to move! Beginners welcome. **Please reserve your spot at www.piesfitnessyoga.com**. The session is offered InStudio only. **Sign up for sessions must be made at least 2 hours prior to class.** The address is 1322 Prince St. Alexandria, VA 22314. Our entrance is located on the side of the building, parallel to West St. **Street parking is available and additional parking is located at Shiloh Baptist church, spaces 3,5,7,9.** The church is located across the street from the studio, on the corner of Duke St. and West St.
