Philosophical Minds Reading - Kant
Philosophical Minds Reading - Kant
**Join us for the premier of a collective reading & text discussion session!** Immanuel Kant (1724–1804) is one of the central figures of Western philosophy, known above all for his work on reason, autonomy, and moral judgment. His 1784 essay *Beantwortung der Frage: Was ist Aufklärung?* is short — a few pages — but precise in a way that rewards slow, careful reading. For this session, we do exactly that: read the text together, paragraph by paragraph, in the tradition of a philosophy seminar. What does Kant mean by *Unmündigkeit* — the self-incurred immaturity he sees all around him? Where does he draw the line between the public and private use of reason, and does that distinction hold? These are not rhetorical questions; they are ones the text itself invites us to sit with. It can serve as perfect preparation for the May event. **Text access:** Please bring a copy of the text in your preferred format and language with you. Recommended versions are \- German original: [Kant, Immanuel, Beantwortung der Frage: Was ist Aufklärung](http://www.zeno.org/Philosophie/M/Kant,+Immanuel/Beantwortung+der+Frage:+Was+ist+Aufkl%C3%A4rung) \- English Translation: [An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment? by Immanuel Kant 1784](https://www.marxists.org/reference/subject/ethics/kant/enlightenment.htm) or [this version](https://sites.evergreen.edu/politicalshakespeares/wp-content/uploads/sites/226/2015/12/Kant-A-response-to-the-question-What-is-Enlightenment.pdf) **Meeting point:** We meet at the main entrance of the **main building of the University of Zurich** and will find a place either in the wonderful Lichthof or on the terrace (depending on the weather). If you can't make it on time but still want to join, reach out to the host. **For our reading events in general:** Whether this format is new to you or a long-missed return to university seminars, you're warmly welcome. Bring a copy of the text in any language or edition you prefer — the reading itself is our guide. Important: When you register for the event, please commit to it and **don't be a NO SHOW**. Presumably, when the old Stoics decided to go to an event, they kept to it ;) We look forward to seeing you
Metalheads Gathering - Metal Together
Metalheads Gathering - Metal Together
Join us, metalheads of Zurich and its surrounding areas, in our regular Wednesday meetup for some afterwork drinks, chaotic socializing and listening to heavy music! **Where?** The meetup will be held at ***[Ebrietas Bar](https://ebrietas.ch/)*** \- a metal & rock bar located in Zurich's oldtown and boasting a selection of whiskeys\, rum & spirits\, in addition to countless shot creations and over 21 different types of beer\. **When?** The gathering will officially begin at \~7:00pm and normally goes until midnight. However, members often arrive slightly earlier and might stay until the following day! You are welcome to join at any point and leave whenever you please. **Attendance:** Attendance can vary, but the number of people at the gatherings is normally somewhere between 20 and 40 metalheads! The group is comprised by a balanced mixture of longstanding members, semi-regulars and curious visitors. **Chats:** Get invited to our chat-groups by introducing yourself at one of the meetups! We currently offer an "official" chat for announcements, updates on events & organizing concerts, a "fun" chat for casual discussions & informal events, and a meme chat for silly discussions and somewhat thematic memes. You can join neither, some or all! **FAQ:** "*How can I find the group?*" We normally reserve one of the larger tables at the bar and decorate it with a large black flag. If you still have trouble finding the group, feel free to approach the bartenders and they will point you our way. "What happens if I arrive late?" Nothing really. We will give you a warm welcome and introduce you to the others, no matter at which time you arrive 🙂 "*What can I expect from these meetups?*" Think of a common "after-work meet & drink", but in a themed bar, with lots of band-shirts and metal music playing in the background. Guests normally show up, grab a drink and join a clique for a conversation. "*Do I need to be a hardcore metal fan for this meetup?*" Not really. The theme of this meetup is indeed metal music and most members do have a liking for it, but plenty others are more casual listeners or more into rock/punk/goth. We welcome all!

Welcome cold lovers! We have been practising cold water plunges for over 4 years. We believe in the benefits of cold water exposure. The feeling you get after the swim is magnificent, it makes you feel alive. We have started this group to safely experience the cold water together. We motivate each other, do active warmup exercises, and also share our life stories with a warm coffee/tea afterwards. The event is every Sunday at 11:30, we meet no matter the weather. Take along: a large towel, comfortable bathing suit, flip-flops, and warm clothes (hat, gloves, etc). If you’re planning swimming out take along a bright swim buoy. The event is Free. IMPORTANT: Every participant takes responsibility for themselves when attending this event. Before attempting cold water exposure, individuals with health conditions (e.g., heart problems or hypertension) should seek advice from a healthcare professional. Safely acclimating the body to cold temperatures requires preparation and gradual exposure.

Fields In *City Lights*, Chaplin's Little Tramp meets a blind girl selling flowers who mistakes him for a wealthy man. When he learns that an operation may restore her sight, he sets off to earn the money she needs to have the surgery. Unknown Number: The High School Catfish
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish
A very unusual choice for his group... Unknown Number: High School Catfish is an American [true crime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_crime "True crime") documentary film directed by [Skye Borgman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skye_Borgman "Skye Borgman") and released to [streaming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_media "Streaming media") on [Netflix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix "Netflix") on August 29, 2025. The documentary explores the events and investigation into an unknown person [cyberbully](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberbullying "Cyberbullying") and [harassing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harassment "Harassment") teenagers in [Beal City, Michigan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beal_City,_Michigan "Beal City, Michigan") using an unknown number via insults and sexual claims. It also explores the increasingly great impact of the harassment on the community, the eventual reveal of the culprit, and the trial that followed. IMPORTANT INFO: I strongly suggest not reading anything about it online before seeing it. It's best viewed with no previous knowledge. This documentary contains crude terminology and deals with cyberbullying, which may be a trigger for some folks. PLEASE NOTE - WE ARE STARTING AT 6:30, WHICH IS THIRTY MINUTES EARLIER THAN USUAL.
