Come join me for a free in-person screening of Alan Gilsenan's feature documentary exploring James Connolly's life and ideas followed by a Q&A. James Connolly stands as one of the defining figures of Irish socialism, republicanism, and the trade union movement. We only Want the Earth draws extensively on Connolly's own words to paint a vivid, intimate picture of the man behind the principles, placing his radical politics and accomplishments in conversation with the struggles fcing the world today. This documentary also explores Connolly's piviotal involvement in the 1916 Easter Rising. The film is further enriched by performances of songs and poetry from the following: Christy Moore, Stephen Rea, and Connollys great-great-granddaughter Tamsin Iona Connolly Heron. Q&A: with the film makers and Des Geraghty, the former President of SIPTU. If you are on the going list, there is a ticket for you. I booked a max of 14 tickets. Come along to get rid of the number one fear people have. Every week we have new members and people starting from scratch so you will not be alone. Everything is based around what you're comfortable with and you don't have to stand up, talk or do anything if you don't feel like it. An illustrated talk by Prof. Tadhg O'Keeffe on the history of the design and construction of Rathfarnham Castle Rathfarnham Castle is a remarkable building. A huge building by pre-Georgian standards, it is the earliest surviving great house in Ireland from the period around 1600 when the arrival of design ideas from Renaissance Europe began to transform the character of elite domestic architecture on the island. The Imposing complex of Government Buildings on Upper Merrion Street was the last major public building the British constructed in Ireland. It was intended as accommodation for the Royal College of Science. Fortuitously, it was completed by 1922. When Independance dawned, the New Free State Government moved in. Former Taoiseach Charlie Haughy converted and entirely refurbished the building to form state-of-the-art accommodation for a number of departments including the Department of the Taoiseach, the Department of Finance and the Office of the Attorney General. Tours of Government Buildings may be cancelled at short notice if they have visiting dignitaries etc. Tickets may be obtained from the National Gallery at the onsite coffee shop where the guide sets up a small table. Tickets are free but on a first come first served basis. We need to be there for 9.30am to ensure a ticket. Once we have our tickets, the guide will accompany us to Government Buildings.

Blake’s world was one of fantasy, imagination, and the ancient past, filled with fantastical creatures and visions of the underworld, expressed through a wide variety of media. By placing him in context - among the artists he admired and those he inspired - the exhibition offers insight into an era of extraordinary originality and innovation in late-eighteenth and early nineteenth-century art. Featuring over 100 works, including by James Barry (1741–1806), Henry Fuseli (1741–1825), John Hamilton Mortimer (1740–1779), Thomas Rowlandson (1757–1827), and J.M.W. Turner (1775–1851), the show explores how artists responded to a time of revolution and transformation, pushing the boundaries of their art into new imaginative territories. The topic for May is "Ink" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills.
