PyData Prague #33 - The Root of All Eval
Hello Python magicians and A.I. operators!
The 33rd Prague PyData meetup will take place at **Pure Storage offices**. As usual, the talks will start at 18:30 but we encourage you to come as soon as **18:00** to enjoy the opportunity to socialize and refresh yourselves (which you can continue doing during the break and after the talks). Note that this time we will want you to sign a **non-disclosure agreement (NDA) when entering** (only to protect the Pure Storage hardware in development; the talks themselves are public of course!)
Our main goal is to build the community around Python and data and make it welcoming to people of various skills and experience levels.
⚡ If you are interested in giving a lightning talk (up to 5 minutes to present an idea, tool or results related at least to some degree to Python and/or data), please contact us before the event or at its beginning.
**📢 Evals, Benchmarks, and Guardrails: A Pythonista's Guide to Not Mixing Them Up**
**([Šimon Podhajský](https://www.linkedin.com/in/simonpodhajsky/), Waypoint)**
"I'll just write pytest tests for my LLM"—but should you? This talk untangles benchmarks, evals, and guardrails: three concepts that sound similar but map to different Python patterns. Learn why pytest CAN work for evals (with the right mindset), why guardrails aren't tests at all, and a grounded theory approach to defining what "good" actually means for your task.
**📢 Orchestration Beyond the Schedule: Real-Time Integrations with Prefect**
**([Ondřej Hlaváč](https://www.linkedin.com/in/ondrej-hlavac-24423a217/), Pure Storage)**
As Python data workflows grow in complexity, relying on simple scripts and cron jobs often leads to "silent failures" and a lack of visibility. Enter Prefect—a modern orchestration framework that empowers developers to build, observe, and manage robust pipelines using standard Python code. While Prefect is rapidly gaining traction for scheduled batch processing, we took a different path: using it to power real-time event integrations for Master Data Management.
In this talk, I will introduce what makes Prefect unique compared to legacy tools and demonstrate how we adapted it to handle immediate, event-driven flows. We will explore how its built-in resilience
capabilities—like automatic retries, state management, and detailed observability—can be repurposed to make real-time integrations as reliable as nightly ETL jobs.

Prague Writers Group [in-person & virtual]
\*\*\*\*\* We're meeting both in-person and virtually via Skype depending on the week. Contact Sonya Lano for more information if you want to join \*\*\*\*\*
This is for anyone wanting feedback! We mostly focus on novels and longer works, but short stories are welcome, as well. You can submit anything you want feedback on in any genre. Current word limit for submissions is 4,000 words. Send your submissions by 13:30 the Thursday before the meeting (or we have a grace period during which you can submit a lower limit of 2,500 words if you submit by midnight Thursday evening). Also, if you don't have time to read through everyone's submissions, still join the meeting! We know that busy schedules don't always make finding reading time easy.
To submit, use the Dropbox folder. If you don't have access to it, send sonyalakadosch@yahoo.com your e-mail address so I can add you.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there! My number in case of any confusion the day of the meeting is 737 118 530 - or on Facebook: Sonya Lano (https://www.facebook.com/sonya.lano)
DROPBOX INFO:
* add new submissions for the next meeting in the " submissions" folder for the meeting date. Put your name at the beginning of the file name (for example: "Sonya Somewhere in the Dark")
* When providing written feedback (not required, but deeply welcome), save the file as a separate document on your device, then mark your changes/ feedback in the saved file. After you're finished, put the file in the "Feedback" folder under the folder for the meeting date and then under the person the feedback is for (e.g. "For Sonya").
* The submissions folder will be replaced within a week after the meeting has taken place. Feedback will be deleted within 2 months after the meeting, so if you need it longer than that, make sure to copy it to your own disk.

MEANINGFUL CONVERSTION NIGHT
Meaningful Conversations Night is a guided evening dedicated to real, present, and thoughtful dialogue — beyond small talk, without pressure to overshare.
The evening is built around simple structure and facilitated conversational exercises that support honesty, curiosity, and listening. Rather than trying to be interesting or say the right thing, participants are invited to stay close to what is actually alive in the moment.
Conversations take place one-on-one and in small groups, with clear agreements that create safety and ease. You can participate at your own pace — speaking is optional, listening is equally valued.
What to Expect
• A short introduction and clear structure for the evening
• Guided conversational exercises
• One-on-one and small group dialogues
• Time to pause, reflect, and integrate between rounds
The focus is on presence and experience, not theory or performance.
Who This Is For
• Open to all genders
• Suitable for introverts and extroverts
• Supportive for anyone craving deeper connection beyond small talk
• Accessible for first-time participants and meaningful for those familiar with conscious communication
No previous experience is required.

He is known for his clear, practical approach and his ability to create spaces where people feel safe to be real — without performance or forced depth.
His facilitation helps people stay present with themselves while genuinely meeting others, even in moments of uncertainty or emotional charge.
AI x Philosophy Reading Club: Claude's Constitution
For our first meeting, we’ll read and discuss *[Claude's Constitution](https://www.anthropic.com/constitution)*, Anthropic’s attempt to formalize the values and principles that guide the behavior of an AI system. No academic background is required, just a willingness to read, think, and share your thoughts.
It's a truly fascinating text on so many levels, I promise :) And I'm really curious what will strike YOU the most.
Please read the text in advance. The session will be discussion-based, lightly moderated, and limited to a small group to allow for real conversation.
Sunday Reading Circle: Plato on Love
In this series of meetings, we'll come together to read and discuss some of the **greatest texts** and essays from the fields of **Philosophy, Politics, and Economics**: from the Nobel laureates, famous philosophers, both ancient and modern, and influential political theorists.
No academic background is required! Anyone is welcome – as long as you've read the text in advance ;)
\~\~\~
For the February – and St Valentine’s – edition of the Reading Circle, let’s read the most famous book ever written about love: *Plato’s Symposium* 🧡
*The Symposium* consists of seven speeches on the nature of love, delivered by different guests at a drinking party. Among the most memorable are Pausanias’ speech, which introduces the idea of **Platonic love**; Aristophanes’ comic yet profound myth, in which humans were once **whole beings split in two** by Zeus, and love is the longing to reunite with our lost half; and Socrates’ speech, in which he presents Diotima’s **Theory of Ascent** (also known as the **Ladder of Love**), describing love as a drive toward immortality through the pursuit of the good and the beautiful. The dialogue concludes with the drunken entrance of Alcibiades, who delivers a passionate confession of his unreciprocated love for Socrates.
*The Symposium* is remarkable not only for its philosophical depth, but also for its boldness: it discusses Eros, beauty, homosexuality, desire, myth, and even hermaphroditic beings, combining poetry, comedy, and philosophy into a timeless meditation on love.
Join us to discuss!
\~\~\~
Since the full dialogue is about 70 pages long, let’s focus on the key sections.
In the Oxford World’s Classics edition linked below (translation by Robin Waterfield), I recommend reading the Introduction (around 30 pages), which is very insightful and makes the dialogue much easier to follow.
As a core text, let’s read Socrates’ main speech (through Diotima), found in paragraphs 201d–212d, which presents the dialogue’s central philosophical argument. In addition, feel free to choose a few other speeches that interest you. We can go through them one by one and, ideally, cover all of them together during the discussion.
For reference: Phaedrus speaks in 178a–180b, Pausanias in 180c–185c, Eryximachus in 185c–188e, Aristophanes in 189a–193d, Agathon in 193d–197e, Socrates (through Diotima) in 201d–212d, and Alcibiades in 212d–222b.

You may need to register and click ‘Borrow’ to access the full version of the book.

**Location:** this time we’ll meet at our friend’s home near Vyšehrad. The address is Svobodova 135/11. Ring the doorbell with the name ‘Rud’. Sometimes the door can be a bit tricky, so if it doesn’t open, just ring again or drop me a message. Go to the second floor and turn left from the staircase.
**Meeting structure:** each session will begin with a brief summary of the key ideas from the reading, followed by open discussion.
Please read the text in advance, make highlights, and write down any thoughts or questions that you find especially interesting and compelling.

From Stability to Stewardship
A Biblical & Practical Path to Financial Freedom
This is not just a money class.
This is a restoration space.
The I AM Worthy of Ownership™ Path is a 12-step, sister-centered journey for women who are ready to build financial stability without shame, fear, or pressure—and to do it in a way that honors both wisdom and the spirit.
Many women don’t struggle with money because they lack discipline or intelligence. They struggle because of unhealed experiences, survival patterns, and the quiet belief that they are “behind” or “disqualified.” This series gently challenges those beliefs while offering practical tools for peace, clarity, and long-term planning.
Together, we will talk honestly about:
Releasing shame and money anxiety
Building stability as a form of self-respect and spiritual discipline
Understanding money as a tool, not a source of worth
Managing debt with clarity instead of condemnation
Preparing for life’s unexpected moments without fear
Laying a calm foundation for future ownership and legacy
Each session blends practical financial education with reflection, conversation, and encouragement. There is no pressure to share personal numbers or experiences. You are welcome to speak, journal quietly, or simply listen.
This is not about hustle.
This is not about perfection.
This is about alignment, wisdom, and peace.
Who this series is for:
Women who are starting over or rebuilding
Women who want stability without stress
Women preparing for future ownership or housing decisions
Women who want their financial lives to reflect wholeness, not fear
No prior financial knowledge is required.
Come as you are. Bring a notebook.
Leave a little lighter than you arrived.
Light refreshments will be served along with 30 minutes of networking.
Lunch and a Movie (Solo Mio)! 🍔 🎥 🍿

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
**People Analytics 101: Making Sense of Compensation Data**
Compensation data is one of the most widely used and widely misunderstood forms of people analytics.
The session will cover where compensation data comes from, including market pricing data, internal payroll data, and benchmarking sources, and how companies think about structuring and analyzing that information. We will explore how compensation data is leveraged to set salary ranges, manage internal equity, support hiring and retention, and align pay with business strategy. A portion of the session will address common data challenges and limitations, such as market noise, inconsistent job matching, and incomplete datasets, while keeping the primary focus on practical use rather than technical depth.
The session will also look ahead at where the space is going, including the growing impact of pay transparency laws, expanding pay equity requirements, and emerging regulations in the US and Europe that require organizations to report on gender and pay gaps. The goal is to give attendees a clear mental model for how compensation analytics works today and why getting it right is becoming increasingly critical.
(note: we are back at Rev1 this month!)

Free In-Person Meeting: Get Over Losses & Betrayals, Build Lasting Relationships
This is a free, in-person meeting on the subject of betrayals, losses and how to get over them so you can build lasting relationships.
Burdened by a stressful relationship? Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to “pin the blame” on someone or something. If you don’t find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse.
Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well.
Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, don’t know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe you’ve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship.
Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action?
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships!
Break free from self imposed limitations
Here we will discuss:
• How to “erase” the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isn’t always repeating past mistakes.
• Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you?
• Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it?
• Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love?
• Fights & arguments - what's really behind them?
• What underlies “corrosive criticism” or the need to invalidate self or others?
• How one can stably change one’s outlook on life so they can affect positive change?
• Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them?
• How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about?
• How to enhance one’s own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or one’s career?
Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general.
Learn where painful experiences are “stored” and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can “erase” those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become “toxic” personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you won’t be tripped up trusting the wrong person.
Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life.
We look forward to having you join us!
This class is sponsored by the Dianetics & Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋
**IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...**
