Dinner & Board Games Fortnightly CBD (We Play Board Games Melbourne)
UPDATE FOR WEDNESDAY 27th MAY 2026: The pub has booked another event at the back, the usual place for the meetup, so unfortunately board game event is moved to the stage area in the main pub for this time. It’s not ideal, but if you are still coming please sit on the stage area, I was told there is sufficient lighting. Sorry about that.
Tarrant and I also won’t make it this time as we are away.
Hi everyone, Stella & Tarrant here 😃
It's board game and dinner time every 2nd Wednesdays! Everyone's welcome, new or experienced board gamer. Let's play board games together, meet new friends if you want, and also supporting local restaurant buying their food and drink, coz the event is free.

𝗙𝗘𝗘: Zero. Nada. It's a casual get together, we're helping facilitating the meetup. All I asked is to please order food & drink from the venue, don't bring your own food and eat there, as the venue is a pub, they are providing the venue for free So please help local business 😃
𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗘: Feel free to post in the comment if you have games you want to bring and teach others, try to organise people to play. Or if you want to join other people's game. We have a group via Aftergame (app/website) where you can organise a game as well here - https://aftergame.app/groups/we-play-board-games-melbourne-meetup-by-meeple-university-1386

Filmonik #128 Short films meetup. 13th year anniversary.
Filmonik is an Open-Screen screening / Bring-Your-Own-Film night that has been running since 2013. May 27 2013 was Filmonik #1 and on May 27 2026 it will be Filmonik #128. We're celebrating by being back to Loop Roof this month only. With its leafy (and heated) rooftop, it's truly a world-unique setting to enjoy short films that we were lucky to call home for many years. This month again you should expect immediate, spontaneous, crafty, fun, inventive, weird and with urgent, current short films. Some old classics and worldwide hits will be thrown in for good measure. Arrive early to network!
Door: $10 cash or Card. FILMS UNRATED (18+ by default). Content may offend.
WEDNESDAY MAY 27 at Loop Roof. 3/23 Meyers Place, Melbourne CBD.
Door on the left of the building to the rooftop. Level 3. Stairs only unfortunately.
Loop Roof is open to the public before 7:45pm so come over from 7pm, say hi and network.
7:45pm ticketing starts. 8:15pm screening starts
FILMMAKERS: Best practice is submitting in advance at filmonik.com.au/submit-your-film or announce via email you'll bring a film on a USB drive on the night (info@filmonik.com.au) so we can reserve you a spot but this month will be even more limited. Guidelines here:

Filmonik is part of the worldwide Kino movement active in 30+ countries around the world.
From social clubs to strategy—unleashing true business value from communities.
Rebecka Isaksson and Lukas Wünsch will give some impulses on and thereafter moderate a lively discussion to Communities of Practice (CoPs). The goal of the session would be to demonstrate and discuss how Communities of Practices can evolve beyond simple “social clubs” to become engines of strategic value. The impulse outlines the basics of effective CoPs, showing how they enhance innovation, creativity, employee wellbeing, and, ultimately, organisational productivity and profitability. The speakers will make very sure to properly blend the basic input re Communities of Practice with their practical experience from Community work across sectors.
**Expected outcomes**
Participants will walk away with a clear understanding of what makes Communities of Practice truly effective - and how they can evolve from informal social groups into engines of strategic value. Through a mix of practical impulses and a lively, moderated discussion, the session will unpack how CoPs strengthen innovation, creativity, wellbeing, and organizational performance. Attendees will gain concrete insights grounded in real‑world community work across sectors, leaving with actionable ideas for building and sustaining Communities of Practice that actually make a difference

Hiking for Health and Happiness! - Nillumbik Aqueduct Trail - Research
Starting outside Soul at Mickys Café – Research we will walk the Nillumbik Aqueduct Trail. The trail utilises the corridor of the historically significant Maroondah Aqueduct and is a family friendly trail. The aqueduct was an engineering feat, following the contours of the land from Maroondah Dam in Healesville to Melbourne’s storage dam in Preston.
The aqueduct has a relatively wide easement, picturesque setting, and a constant gradient, aside from the creek and road crossings.
The walk is suitable for most and dogs on lead are welcome.
In total we will cover approximately 9 kms in 2.5 hours.
For anyone interested afterwards we will meet for a coffee, chat and lunch at Mickeys after.
We look forward to catching up.
JUGGER - soft-combat foam weapons, free to try!
It's Jugger time! Get on down to Hawthorn for fun, sun, exercise, and silly shenanigans!
* ✅ Free to attend
* ⚔️ Jugger Equipment is supplied
* 🍜 Post-training social lunch - all welcome
* ➡️ [Find us on Discord](https://discord.gg/WHnMyk56Cu)
Jugger is an exciting, mixed-gender soft combat sport. Two teams use a selection of padded foam spars to tag opponents as they aim to put the jugg (the game ball) into their opponent's goal.
**Watch Jugger being played in [this excellent short demo video](https://vimeo.com/28592980).**
Jugger Melbourne training sessions include both full games of jugger, as well as a variety of training drills designed to promote **teamwork, communication, exercise, health and fitness, and teach core game skills.**
After training we head across to Glenferrie Rd for lunch and socializing, which you are welcome (and encouraged!) to join.
**🏃♀️➡️ New Player Info / Who Can Join**
New players are always welcome! Our experienced coaches will teach you basics to get you and and swinging in no time Jugger is easy to pickup the basics while deep to master.
We have a minimum age policy of 16 years (please note, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian), but other than that we welcome anyone of all fitness levels. Jugger is a great way to keep active, and a fun way to meet new people in a friendly and inclusive community!
**👟 How to Join a Session and What to Bring**
Joining is simple - just show up! RSVPing on Meetup or Discord is a big help as it helps us plan around expected numbers. You are also welcome to bring along any interested friends and family.
**⚔️ Jugger equipment is supplied.** We have a collection of gear to loan out to new players.
Bring a water bottle (there is a tap nearby), sunscreen, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes for running around in - and that you don't mind getting a bit dirty!
Recommend but not required items include: sunglasses, football boots, kneepads, and gloves if you have them. You don't need any of these to get started, but you may find you want them if you become a regular.
**✅ Are there any costs are involved?**
Our training sessions are **free to attend** as often as you like, we are essentially just a group of friends that meet for training and socializing on the weekend.
The Australian Jugger League has a voluntary annual membership that helps to support the sport (including maintaining equipment and paying for Meetup), and we encourage people to join once they become a regular attendee or begin attending tournaments. However there's no obligation so spend any money when you're first trying it out or just attending casually.
**➡️ External Links**
We organise our regular players through our Discord group and their attendance is not often represented in the Meetup attendance numbers (we use Meetup to reach out to new people).
Events are also (though less regularly) posted to Facebook, while event photos and videos are shared on our Instagram.

2. Non-Judgement - we respect and honor every man’s truth so that we may receive the same from others. While we may not agree on everything, we commit to respecting every man’s perspectives and engaging in honorable discussion with one another.
3. Be committed - honor your commitment to this group and to yourself. If you attend a meeting, please commit yourself fully to the meeting. Also be committed to your own journey. When we fail, we own it & clean it up.

5. Be supportive - This means always willing to provide encouragement to your fellow men, encourage action and momentum in each other’s lives.. Be willing to challenge each other. Be willing to hold each other accountable.
