Practical Philosophy Meetup for Youth - Mississauga šØš¦
**āļø PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY YOUTH EDITION**
This is a special Youth Edition of Practical Philosophy, created specifically for young people aged 15ā19.
Itās a space where young people can explore big ideas, develop independent thinking, and practice expressing themselves in a respectful, open environment among their age group.
**šļø WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?**
Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no āofficialā philosophy knowledge required! š
Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic.
The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community š
**š HOW DOES IT WORK?**
Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://tally.so/r/NpAjbj), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going.
When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, itās important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture.
**General Meeting Agenda**
Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline:
* 18:00-18:15 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the official start.
* 18:15-18:25 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines.
* 18:25-19:45 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the ājump-offā questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. Itās not obligatory to answer them.
* 19:45-20:00 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo.
* 20:00 - The official meeting is over but itās a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other.
**š§§PRICING?**
Practical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend! We just ask that if we are meeting in a cafƩ, buy a beverage! Some chapters rent a space for us to meet, and they may ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will always be 100% voluntary though!
**š WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY**
**š£** āI feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting whatās right and wrongā - Ekam
š£ āI got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.ā - Daniel
**š¤ FAQ**
* **Do I need to study or read anything to attend?**
No preparation is necessary. This isnāt a study of other thinkers. We want to know what you think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and weāll discuss it.
* **Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on?**
The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school.
* **What age group is this for?**
This youth edition of Practical Philosophy is designed for young people between 15ā19 years old. Topics and discussions are adapted to the interests and experiences of this age group.
* **Can I come alone?**
Of course you can, we encourage it :)
* **Can I be late?**
Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation.
* **Where do you meet?**
The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp ](https://tally.so/r/NpAjbj)group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website.](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/practical-philosophy-locations/)
š¤**POLICY**
To respect our members privacy, we ask that no one privately message a member without first getting explicit consent. (This looks like speaking in person and being asked to message privately.) Contacting or texting other participants without prior consent is not permitted and may result in removal from the group. Practical Philosophy reserves the right to enforce this policy at its discretion to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
**PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY CLUB - Philosophy, everywhere. āØ**
We started in Practical Philosophy back in 2021 and there are now 50+ chapters in 25+ countries, including Canada, Spain, Japan, Mexico and many more! šŗļø

Testing LLM Cooperation in Multi-Agent Simulation
This is a ticketed event. Please register at [this link](https://luma.com/lpikw708).
āRyan Faulkner explores various papers that address cooperation and safety in multi-agent LLM simulations. Some of the core topics will include:
* āMoral behaviour of agents in high-stakes, zero-sum, and morally charged social dilemmas
* āGovernance and sanctioning dynamics and the ways that LLM agents often fail to cooperate and free-ride in common-pool resource game
* āMechanism design interventions like mediation, contracts, and elected leadership are explored to steer agents toward safer outcomes.
āThis research also reveals that LLMs adapt their behavior based on awareness of their conversational partner's identity.

[IN-PERSON] Dark Fiction Writers - Readings & Feedback
Join us for this month's dark fiction writers meeting!
Participants are encouraged to bring sacrificesāwriting excerpts, that isāof up to 2000 words to read and receive critique. Listeners are appreciated as well. We welcome all dark genres and subgenres, including but not limited to: horror, dark science fiction, dark fantasy, suspense/thriller, etc.
We'll be meeting at the MaRS Building near Queen's Park Station.
In-Person Writing Sprints
Struggling with motivation and focus as you hammer away on your manuscript at home? Want to join a community of writers as we embrace the joys and pains (mostly pains) of writing together?
Bring your laptop, pen & paper, old-school typewriter, or futuristic writing gadget, and join an enthusiastic community of science fiction and fantasy writers as we work on our current projects in the same space. The format will be similar to our online writing sprints: 30-minute blocks of focused, quiet writing time (the sprints), interspersed with breaks where we can chat, ask questions, and share our writing experiences.
Let's go see Project Hail Mary together!
Let's all go see [Project Hail Mary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m08TxIsFTRI) in cinema! It's a new epic sci-fi movie starting Ryan Gosling, from [Andy Weir's book](https://tpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S234C3970025) of the same name. It's supposed to be incredible!
UPDATED! We've chosen the 3:50pm showing on Saturday, March 28th, at Imagine Cinemas Market Square. We'll meet outside 20 minutes earlier to gather and chat, and then head in 5 minutes before show time to get seated. Apparently Imagine does not show many trailers, so we expect it to start promptly. It's a long movie, 2h 36 min, so we'll come out 6:25 or so. Afterwards you can also join us at a nearby bar (see below).
IMPORTANT NOTE: you'll need to [BUY YOUR OWN TICKET](https://omniwebticketing6.com/imaginecinemas/marketsquare/?schdate=2026-03-28&perfix=119275). That link should take you to the Sat 28th 3:40 showing in Auditorium #3 at Imagine Cinemas Market Square, for Project Hail Mary. If it doesn't work, [navigate yourself](https://imaginecinemas.com/cinema/market-square/). Tickets are on sale NOW (a day earlier than expected!). Some of us have seats row C 6,7,8,9. Try to buy near there. Hopefully at least some of us will end up seated next to each other. You can coordinate in the comments if you want (post the seat you bought).
Finally, afterwards optionally join us at a nearby bar: C'est What, 67 Front St E Downstairs, starting at 6:20pm or so, we'll chat about the movie and have our usual 'drink beers and shoot the shit about space' good time. You're also welcome to join just for that if you want, but fair warning, we will spoil the movie for you!
Saturday Writing Meetup ā near Bloor-Yonge
\*\*NOTE: This meetup currently lacks a regular host. (The current hosts are volunteers for online organizational purposes; they show up in person occasionally.) If you arrive and there is no host, donāt worry. Whoever is the longest-running member (or whoever wants to) can set the timer for the writing session. In this way, the meetup is self-sustaining, and not dependent on any one person. Thanks for your understanding.\*\*
Join us for an hour of quiet writing, followed by an hour of (optional) socializing.
\*\*SILENT WRITING BEGINS AT 1:15 PM. IF YOU'RE LATE, WELCOME! WE WILL IGNORE YOU (BECAUSE WE'RE BUSY WRITING) UNTIL 2:15 PM.\*\*
This meetup is open to everyone, whether youāre writing a novel, blog, class paper, or journal entryāor something completely different. Anyone interested is welcome to attend :)
LOCATION:
5 Elements Cafe, basement level

SCHEDULE:
1:00 to 1:15 PM: Arrive and get settled in.
1:15 to 2:15 PM: Write in silence for an hour.
\*\*If you arrive after 1:15, please silently find your own place to sit. We'll welcome you to join the group at 2:15.\*\*
2:15 PM: Introduce yourself.
We'll go in a circle; just say your name and 1ā2 sentences about what you're writing.

Chat, hang out, keep writing if you want, leave whenever.
Avengersā Saturday Cafe for the Homeless
Note: You may be removed from the attendance list if you've participated in the previous week's event. This allows for more people to experience this Meetup.
Avengers put your costumes on and letās go and save the world!ā©Well we canāt save the world (yet), but we aim to try to play a small part in the lives of those experiencing homelessness by making their day a bit better!ā©Description: Before the event the organizer will post a list in the comment section of the attendees and what they are responsible to bring (food/drink, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies). We normally ask each attending member to bring approximately $15-20 worth of ingredients/supplies to our event. We will use the items to prepare and serve food/drink at The Meeting Place.ā©Timeline: We will meet on location at 11:00 am, with lunch served between 12:30-1:00 pm.ā©Membership Dues: Membership dues are $2.00 for the calendar year. Membership dues go towards paying for food/supplies incurred by no-shows. Membership dues are due at the first meetup of the year that you attend.ā©No Shows/Late Un-RSVP: Weāre relying on members who RSVP to bring key ingredients for recipes! Please try your best to show-up or alternatively change your RSVP early so another member may fill the empty spot.āØ\*\*\* If you are on the waitlist, keep checking as you may be moved into attendance to replace someone. We will try to message you to confirm your attendance in advance.ā©Donations will be assigned before the event.

Free In-Person Meeting: Get Over Losses & Betrayals, Build Lasting Relationships
This is a free, in-person meeting on the subject of betrayals, losses and how to get over them so you can build lasting relationships.
Burdened by a stressful relationship? Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to āpin the blameā on someone or something. If you donāt find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse.
Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well.
Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, donāt know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe youāve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship.
Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action?
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships!
Break free from self imposed limitations
Here we will discuss:
⢠How to āeraseā the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isnāt always repeating past mistakes.
⢠Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you?
⢠Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it?
⢠Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love?
⢠Fights & arguments - what's really behind them?
⢠What underlies ācorrosive criticismā or the need to invalidate self or others?
⢠How one can stably change oneās outlook on life so they can affect positive change?
⢠Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them?
⢠How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about?
⢠How to enhance oneās own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or oneās career?
Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general.
Learn where painful experiences are āstoredā and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can āeraseā those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become ātoxicā personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you wonāt be tripped up trusting the wrong person.
Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life.
We look forward to having you join us!
