Blanchot Sessions #4
Blanchot Sessions #4
Dear friends, Thank you again for the previous session. We continue tomorrow, Wednesday. We remain with the imaginary, but now move from the essay toward fiction. This time we open Thomas the Obscure. The question shifts again: not only what the image is, but how the imaginary appears inside experience itself. We read passages together, follow the writing closely, and ask what this strange space of language might mean for art as well as literature. Side materials will be provided. No prior knowledge required, only patience with the text. SU&W In-person Mitte
SU&W In-person Mitte
Come along, grab a coffee, shut up, and write! We will do at least two sessions of each 45 minutes of writing and two breaks. We will start the first writing session at 10:15. For space reasons, we are limited to a certain number of attendees, so please update your RSVP if you can't come. We are typically by the large windows facing the U-Bahn entrance. If you are new, come and say hello, as we know that suddenly going quiet for 45 minutes and staring at that blank page can be intimidating when it's your first time. We have a lot of long-term regulars who will be happy to help you feel welcome. In between sessions, we have a Telegram chat: https://t.me/joinchat/ERW3pxD5kfELGeWs9SUhjw For more information, visit [https://shutupwrite.com](https://shutupwrite.com/).

Act Easy
Act Easy
**This event can be different from anything you have experienced before - if you're willing to jump in.** This is something vivid, something challenging, something new: spontaneous, creative, fun, goofy, because we blend theatre with real-life interactions. Together, we improvise scenes and playful actions in public places, such as cafes, bars, public transport, and more. While acting out, the public becomes the audience — without even knowing it. We start easy and become more creative and a little crazier over time. You might change your life tonight. Group size: 6–8 people. English and German are both welcome. No acting experience required. They don't accept credit cards in the Dachkammer. So cash is needed. hosted by sOcial saloon
@ Anna Blume - A cozy book swap and chat meetup!
@ Anna Blume - A cozy book swap and chat meetup!
The "classical" bookswap is simple: * We meet in a café and put the book(s) we brought down on the tables. * We browse and discuss the books with one another while sipping coffee or hot chocolate, or eating cake. * We write our names down on any books we’d like to take home (post-its and pens provided). * At the end of the evening, negotiate any books that are contended and take a new-to-you book home! Books/happiness shared are books/happiness multiplied! A Bookswap is 10 times better than a Book Club because you can talk about ALL the books instead of just one! This is a great way to give your books a new home and make room for new books: that book you feel guilty for not having read even though it's been sitting on your bedside table for the last 5 years, the book you liked but didn't love, the book you loved so much you want everyone to read it, the book you somehow own three copies of, that book you absolutely hated even though everyone else loves it, and so on. Moreover, you will meet fellow readers, get a new book or two, and several book recommendations. We’ve often had readers experience books they wouldn't normally buy and enjoy it. GROUP EXPECTATIONS for PLEASANT SWAPPING * Please bring a book! It's not that you bring one you take one, but do try your best to bring something. * Books stay on the tables, open for sharing, until you are ready to leave so that everyone can have a look. We are notably not first come first serve. Please wait until you are leaving to bag the book. * If two or more people want the only copy of a book, negotiate. Maybe one of you reads it first and then gives it to the others. Or perhaps they have found another book instead. Or leave it to fate and toss a coin. The best part: now you have found somebody whose taste you can really admire. In any case, please don't walk away with a book with several names on it without letting the others know. These negotiations are fun and easy, so don't shy away from a book because there's already a name on it, and feel free to put your name on as many books as you find interesting. It's not that you bring one you take one; you may take as many as you can negotiate. * Political discussions with consent: make sure the people you are talking to would like to have a political discussion with you. * Please respect this space as first and foremost a community for connecting readers over their love of books and reading, stories, and narratives of all sorts. Please be respectful of tastes and opinions. * If something is bothering you, please reach out to the organizers, and we'll do our best to resolve it. * Lastly, don't expect your book back. It will find a new home. If you love it, let it go. Major LANGUAGES (and genres) of this meetup: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian; Fiction, Non-Fiction, Serious Reading, Light Fun, “classics", Krimis, Booker winners, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Self-Help and more. You never know who can read what languages, and there's no accounting for taste. We are a delightful and international group of readers. We look forward to swapping with you!

Find the Essential Story of Your Family Tree! (First Steps in Metagenealogy)
Find the Essential Story of Your Family Tree! (First Steps in Metagenealogy)
Please join us at New Pages to take your first steps in discovering the essential story of your family tree. Using the book *Metagenealogy: Self-Discovery through Psychomagic and the Family Tree* (Jodorowsky and Costa) as a guiding text, the hosts will help you put together the initial draft of your family tree so that you might learn the essential story you tell and live out in your life. You will then learn the next steps you should take to more fully fill out this story and to make the family tree your ally rather than your enemy. Metageneaology seeks to combine art and science in order to help people create for themselves a meaningful life. Why is this important? We all are in the process of living out some type of story we tell ourselves. Often, this story isn't something we created completely on our own, but is passed down to us via the family tree. It is important that we not only become aware of this story, but that we feel i*n control of it* rather than *being* *controlled by it*. Please join us for the first ever session in this work that we have found immensely help for our own selves. A note: please complete no preparatory work on your tree before the event. You need only bring yourself and perhaps your favorite pen. Attendance is limited to 9 people to allow for adequate time to focus on the discovery and building of each person's tree. Please, if you RSVP and then change your mind, change your status so that another person might be able to join. *The event is free, but a modest donation helps us continue to offer events in the future.*
Monthly Book Club Meeting - March
Monthly Book Club Meeting - March
Dear Book Enthusiasts, For our March gathering, we’ll be reading *Raised from the Ground* by the Nobel Prize–winning author Jose Saramago. First published in 1980, this powerful novel traces several generations of landless peasants in rural Portugal, giving voice to lives shaped by poverty, repression, endurance, and quiet resistance. With his distinctive narrative style and moral clarity, Saramago explores labor, injustice, solidarity, and dignity, transforming collective struggle into unforgettable literature. 📅 **Date & Time:** 15.03.2026 at 15:00 📍 **Location:** Charlottenburg, Berlin (exact address to be announced later this week) 💬 **Fee:** As always, a 3 € contribution after the meeting helps cover organization costs I’m very much looking forward to discussing this moving and politically charged novel with you — and to sharing another thoughtful afternoon together. Warmly, Sofya P.S. kind thanks to Raimundo for a great present :)

#5 social reading club – Kreuzberg · Tempelhof (DE)
**Come together. Read. Talk about it.** Vielleicht liest du viel und vermisst Gespräche darüber. Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Secrets of Runes
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Secrets of Runes
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“The Secrets of Runes,”** on the origins, development, and interpretation of the runic script, with Lilla Kopár, runologist and a professor of medieval literature and culture at Catholic University. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-rune-secrets](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-rune-secrets) .] The fame of runes outshines that of any other ancient script. They can be found not just on Viking Age rune stones, but on Bilbo’s door and as the Bluetooth logo on your cell phone. Runic script is commonly associated with magic, used by modern practitioners of neopaganism, and in recent decades has captured the imagination of filmmakers and video game designers. Yet most of us know little about the historical origins of runes and have no clue how to read or use them. Come to Crooked Run Fermentation in Sterling, Va., to get schooled on runic script with the help of Lilla Kopár, a veteran scholar of runes who has earned a following among Profs and Pints fans by giving fantastic talks on medieval monsters and Norse mythology. As someone who has carried out extensive field research on runes, published several articles on runic objects, and even appeared on the History Channel commenting on runes in America, she’s exceptionally qualified to introduce you to runology and the fascinating things that runes tell us. Dr Kopár will discuss the development of runic script from its humble origins on the borders of the Roman Empire in the first or second century CE, through its popularity in the Viking world, to its use and misuse in modern times. She’ll discuss how runes are a set of related alphabets that underwent changes over time and she’ll describe what inspired changes in this writing system and where and how runes were used in the medieval period. Her richly illustrated talk will highlight some of the most intriguing objects with runic inscriptions, from humble bone fragments to impressive rune stones, and offer insight into the scholarly methods of deciphering and interpreting runic inscriptions. We’ll also look at the function of the runic script from simple practical notes and memorial inscriptions to cipher-runes and magic. The most fun might be the in-class assignment, which will involve reading a few runic inscriptions and writing your name and other words in runes. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.) Image: Part of Codex runicus, a rune manuscript written on animal skin and dating to about 1300 (University of Copenhagen / Wikimedia Commons).
