Your cat might be under 21, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t drink! We are bringing the cats to the beer garden. Feel free to come with or without a cat and get ready to socialize and raise a glass with fellow cat lovers! 🍻 This is a great opportunity to make new friends. I will be bringing one or both of my cats and they would love to meet you! If you bring your cat, make sure they are wearing a collar, harness, leash, in a backpack, carrier, and/or stroller. We will be meeting in the side tent called the “special events tent” opposite of the entrance. We have the tent fully reserved for our group! 🅿️: From the Shipgarten website, “Our free parking can be found at 1651 Old Meadow Rd McLean, VA 22102. We have a complimentary shuttle which has continuous service after 3pm on weekdays and starting at 11am on weekends.” Ⓜ️: The venue is a 7 minute walk from the McLean station on the silver line.

To support our local animals, please bring a pet food donation and you’ll be entered into a raffle for free tastings and glasses! You can also purchase raffle tickets. Your monetary donations help cover much-needed medical expenses for homeless and at-risk animals. This event will be 5-8pm on the last Friday of every month at the October One Vineyard tasting shop in Downtown Leesburg. This event is free to the public, so stop by and raise a glass. HSLC will be on hand to answer questions and let you know about available animals. Let’s “cheer” up our local area animals in need!

Please be sure to RSVP here! https://stampede.proanimal.org/events Join your fellow animal lovers and DC Animal Protection to discuss what’s happening in the animal advocacy scene in DC! This series is a weekly meetup, with guest speakers from all of the major animals rights orgs. We’ll host non-profits such as Pro-Animal Future, International Council for Animal Welfare, DC Voters for Animals, The Humane League, Mercy for Animals and Direct Action Everywhere as well as local grassroots groups like the DC Coalition Against Foie Gras and sanctuaries. We’ll also have special sessions related to health, nutrition and mindfulness! We encourage anyone who is interested in helping animals to attend- no need to be vegan! Come learn about our rich variety of local activism. With protests, outreach, wheat-pasting, signature collecting, leafletting, lobbying, tabling etc. there’s something to match everyone’s comfort level and skill set. At our 86th official meeting we’ve planned to watch anime (ΦωΦ) We’ll be watching Daemons of the Shadow Realm, a fantasy-action series written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist as well as Max’s request to finally watch the time-travel anime Tokyo Ravens. Afterwards at 5:00 we may meet up somewhere nearby for dinner. Make sure you RSVP as soon as you can cos seats are filling up fast! Yay! We have room for 15 (counting me). I also have to keep an eye on Meetup.com’s RSVPs so 15 could mean an addition to their numbers. I’m always looking forward to another meeting! If you recently had COVID a mask is required. Please show up on time as the front door locks on its own (typically within 15 minutes of the meeting beginning at 3:00). More detail about the lock below. Please join the [Veg Society of DC (VSDC)](http://vsdc.org/) for an LGBTQ+ &ALLIES walking tour of LGBTQ+ historical spots in and around Dupont Circle. We will also plan to end the outing with some vegan pizza from [Protest Pizza](https://protestpizza.com/), if space allows, since the restaurant does not accept reservations. If necessary, the group will collectively decide on alternate dinner plans at one of the other vegan options in the area. Note that individuals will be responsible for the cost of their own dinner. The total distance walked during the event will depend on the wishes of the group as to how many of the [addresses associated with DC's LGBTQ+ history](https://rainbowhistory.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/rainbowhistory_dupont_03-1.pdf) we want to view, but at most around 3 miles. ***Note that this event is open to allies but please see "About the Group" section below for more details on requirements for participation in VSDC LGBTQ+ &ALLIES events.*** **Where** We'll be meeting at the [Dupont Circle](https://www.wmata.com/rider-guide/stations/dupont-circle.cfm) South exit at 3pm, and will leave by 3:15pm. Starting from Dupont Circle, we will slowly make our way around a variety of addresses that were important to Washington, D.C.'s LGBTQ+ history while chatting. The exact itinerary for the walking tour will be decided upon by a majority of event participants. In the event of heavy rain, the walking tour portion of the event will be replaced with games and queer-centric conversation at the [Board Room DC](https://boardroomdc.com/), providing there is space to accommodate our group at that time. (Closest Dupont Circle metro exit is North.) After socializing indoors, the group will decide dinner plans together, if folks are feeling up to it. The host will post an urgent comment on this event if we are moving to indoor venue. **When** Saturday, April 25, from 3pm to 6pm **Transportation** Dupont Circle is on the red line and there is limited paid parking nearby. ***About the Group*** *Unless noted otherwise, VSDC's LGBTQ+ events are intended for queer/questioning folks who self-identify as LGBTQ+. The events are meant to serve as a safe space to share community with other self-identified queer or questioning LGBTQ+ vegan or vegan-curious people. However, we appreciate our allies and we plan to host "LGBTQ+ & ALLIES" events approximately quarterly - to welcome non-queer allies into our events in order to share community with our fellow vegans/veg curious VSDC participants. Families with teens &/tweens - bring a snack & come play/hang out! The Teen/Tween potluck meetup is normally monthly. We meet for eating, playing, conversation... I'm mom to 11 & 15 year olds. We've been vegan since 2012. This meetup is for vegan or vegan-curious youth & their families. All are welcome. If your family has a food allergy, please let me know & I'll share with the group. Make or buy vegan food to share and hang out/play. Bring: -vegan snack to share -your own drink -outdoor games/balls -chairs/blanket Please make sure the snack you bring to share is vegan. I'll provide paper towels. There is a basketball court, a small playground and a field. We'll have some frisbees. Please attend if your child is age 10 or older. Please note that there are no restroom facilities in the park. There is a church across the street. Turn into the parking lot between the small, white, Waves of Glory Church & the Norbeck-Muncaster Park sign. Event will be held in all weather. In case of inclement weather, we will hold the event at our home, 1 mile away, on our large covered patio.

**Hike Slate Run Metro Park and visit the Living Historical Farm. We will aim for 3.5 to 4 miles of hiking and then do a quick pass through the Living Historical Farm. From there those who are interested can join for lunch at Brewdog, 96 Gender Way, Canal Winchester, just 11 minutes away.** **If you’d like to spend more time at the Farm plan on arriving early (they open at 9).** **Living Historical Farm: Time has been turned back to the 1880s at Slate Run Living Historical Farm. Experience first-hand what life was like on a 19th-century Ohio farm. As you stroll through the gardens, barns and farmhouse, you will see the farm’s costumed staff and volunteers going about their daily chores. Pigs, geese, turkeys, Percheron horses and other heirloom animals can be seen.** **The gothic revival farmhouse was built in 1856 and restored by Metro Parks for authenticity. Visitors can tour the living room, parlor and kitchen and watch the farm ladies prepare meals on a woodburning stove and tend the house. The multi-bay barn was built by Samuel Oman, the fourth owner of Slate Run Farm, and restored by Amish carpenters.** **Allow at least three hours and maybe more if you're joining for lunch.** **Pace is 17-18 minute miles with no one left behind. Faster walkers are free to lead - I'll have the route well defined - and we can meet up at the farm.** **This is the fourth of the metro parks.**
