Paws in the Park 🐈🪁🌳
Paws in the Park 🐈🪁🌳
Meet fellows cat lovers, cats, and enjoy the summer weather 🌳🌳🌳 Walking your pet isn’t just for dogs, but cats too! It’s a source of enrichment for them and a great chance for both you and your cat to get some fresh air. This is an opportunity to socialize your cat with people and other cats in a neutral and safe environment. Feel free to come without your cat (or if you don’t have one) if you just want to socialize and your kitty would rather relax inside 😌❤️ If you do bring a cat, make sure your cat is wearing a collar and has on a harness/leash, is in a cat backpack, a cat carrier, or a cat stroller. Misty and I can’t wait to meet you! Let your cats enjoy the relaxing outdoors. This is a great opportunity for more beginner cat walkers! Moving this event to be an hour earlier than typical to try and beat some of the summer heat at the beginning of the day. 🅿️ Parking: There is plenty of free parking in Rockcreek Park.
The Mallard Mile
The Mallard Mile
Join PAM for a beer mile fundraiser for Pro-Animal D.C.! If you’ve never heard of a beer mile, it’s simple and hilarious: you chug a 12oz drink, run/walk a lap, and repeat that four times until you hit a mile. **Check-in is at 7:30 PM, and the single-heat race kicks off at 8:00 PM,** but anyone can also just come to watch! It will be quite the spectacle. We’ll have music and pizza. If you want to run, it’s $25 to enter. All of the funds go towards helping ducks and geese by funding our I-86 campaign to end force-feeding and the sales of force-fed products in DC. All donations are currently being 100% MATCHED by a generous donor! Your $25 registration instantly becomes $50 to help animals. Register here: [https://forms.gle/xEaDn31faRoVVP9c7](https://forms.gle/xEaDn31faRoVVP9c7) This event is completely BYOB. Cans or plastic bottles only, no glass. If you’re under 21, don't drink alcohol, or just prefer a different vibe, you are absolutely welcome to swap the beer for your favorite soda, seltzer, or kombucha. We won't be checking IDs, so please just follow the law. Let’s get crazy for animals! If you’re running/walking, bring a 4-pack of canned, animal-product-free beverages (in the spirit of the campaign.) Feel free to bring along any extra veg snacks or sides you'd like to share alongside the pizza. You might also want a picnic chair or blanket. If you have them, bring hype gear like cowbells, whistles, or noisemakers to cheer on the runners. Street parking is the best option.

The site is virus free, and this is the easiest option to view this version. The first contextual text will explain some about why we are reading this translation, but feel free to Google the author. Contextual Texts **\***Here you can read an overview of the setting and context of the Bhagavad Gita ([link](https://www.brettlarkin.com/how-to-read-the-bhagavad-gita/)) Chapters 2, 3, and 6 set up some of the core tenets of Hinduism that continue to be built upon throughout the Bhagavad Gita. They also allow us to explore ideas that we will see consistently come up across different religions. Chapter 2 talks about the immortality of our souls. Chapter 3 outlines selfless action, telling us that we should perform duty without attachment to the results, surrender our fruits to the Divine, and avoid inaction. Chapter 6 gives us more technical motivation on the advantages of meditation, controlling the mind, and self realization. Through these texts we should be able to think about the nature of ourselves and actions, and discuss why we do the things we do, and the concept of a “soul”. We can also discuss experiences with mediation, controlling the mind (controlling emotions), and if anyone feels self realized. With “The Story of Shvetaketu” we follow a young man who is taught by his father that knowledge is more than just what we learn intellectually, rather it is about gaining understanding of the essence of existence. Here we get to explore fun philosophical concepts about what learning and knowledge truly is. Ultimately, these texts challenge us to think about our agency by finding a sense of self-worth that exists independently of external notions of success or validation.

Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
This is an in-person meeting. Did you know that unwanted emotions like loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, anger, fear, anxiety, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not chemical imbalance in your brain due to some nebulous chemical reactions by chance. Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you. The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life. For instance, let's say you are already carrying a huge load on your back, then you cannot take on much more, but, let's say something else happens to you, such as the difficulties from the Pandemic, then the resultant combined weight on you can take you over the edge, kind of like the straw that break the camel's back. When this happens, people's attention usually goes to the straw that was added, but actually the majority of the weight had come from the huge load that were already there, holding a person down and causing a person issues. So how do you remove the huge load that was already there? How do you lighten them up? Is it possible to get rid of them? That is what this meeting will be all about. Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there. This group is created by the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.
