IN PERSON! From Streams to Insights: Kafka, Flink & Modern Analytics
IN PERSON! From Streams to Insights: Kafka, Flink & Modern Analytics
Hello everyone! Join us for an IN PERSON Apache Kafka® x Apache Flink® meetup on Apr 10th from 6:30pm, hosted by Credit Agricole CIB in Singapore! **📍 Venue:** Mapletree Business City Blk 20 West 20 Pasir Panjang Road Singapore, 117439 , Level 13 \*\*\* **🗓 Agenda:** * 18:30pm-19:00pm: Food, Drinks & Networking * 19:00pm-19:30pm: Speaker from Credit Agricole CIB * 19:30pm-20:00pm: Dominique Ronde, Staff Solution Engineer, Confluent * 20:00pm-20:30pm: Networking \*\*\* **💡 Speaker:** Dominique Ronde, Staff Solution Engineer, Confluent **Talk:** Guardians of the Stream: Kafka, Flink, and the Rise of GenAI **Abstract:** In this session we will explore how Kafka and Flink can seamlessly integrate with GenAI to build intelligent systems capable of real-time learning, automation, and decision-making. Discover the next frontier in data streaming and artificial intelligence, where Kafka, Flink, and GenAI take center stage in shaping the future of industries. **Bio:** **Dominique Ronde** is a Staff Solution Engineer at Confluent, a pioneer in enterprise event-streaming platforms. With previous roles as a Big Data Architect and Data Scientist at freeyou, SAP, and Allianz, Dominique brings deep expertise in digital transformation, Java, AWS, and Apache Kafka®. Since 2016, he has worked extensively with Apache Flink and currently serves as a subject matter expert in the APAC region. Dominique is a frequent speaker at conferences worldwide, with a recent focus on innovative data use cases in the insurance industry. Outside of work, he enjoys experimenting with Arduino microcontrollers, IoT home devices, and traveling. \-\-\-\-\- **💡 Speaker:** Zabeer Farook, Technical Architect, Credit Agricole CIB **Talk:** Natural Language Analytics in the Lakehouse : Why is it harder than it looks? **Abstract:** AI agents and the Model Context Protocol finally make natural language analytics on your lakehouse technically plausible — any LLM can discover your schema, plan a query strategy, and return results in seconds. But connect an agent directly to your Iceberg stack and something uncomfortable happens: it returns confident, fluent, wrong answers with no signal that anything is amiss. This talk demonstrates exactly why — wrong metric formulas, invented business terms, incorrect join paths — and introduces the architectural layer that fixes it: the unified semantic layer, exposed as an MCP API. A glimpse at what becomes possible when agents call meaning, not just schema. **Bio:** Zabeer is a seasoned Technology Architect with nearly 20 years of experience in enterprise software across FSI and fintech, including retail banking, wealth management, KYC, regulatory reporting, and payment systems. He brings strong expertise in digital transformation, legacy modernization, and data engineering, with hands-on experience in AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Flink, Spark, APIs, and DevOps. Actively contributes to the Singapore tech community, co-hosting Kafka meetups and delivering technical talks, with a strong focus on real-time data streaming and event-driven architecture. \*\*\* ***DISCLAIMER*** BY ATTENDING THIS EVENT IN PERSON, you acknowledge that risk includes possible exposure to and illness from infectious diseases including COVID-19, and accept responsibility for this, if it occurs. As the classroom is a mask-on setting, please be reminded that masks should still be worn at all times unless actively eating or drinking NOTE: We are unable to cater for any attendees under the age of 18. \*\*\* If you would like to speak or host our next event please let us know! Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: THE CHRISTOPHERS vs NORMAL at the Gateway!
Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: THE CHRISTOPHERS vs NORMAL at the Gateway!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Movie event to see your choice of two great new films! Option 1 (and the one I'll be seeing) is the top-reviewed comedy-drama, THE CHRISTOPHERS! The film is set in the art world and follows the estranged children of a former artist who hire a forger. It is directed by Steven Soderberg, stars Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel and has been earning rave reviews on the indie circuit. Option 2 is the latest action-thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, NORMAL! The film follows a temporary small-town sheriff who uncovers dark mysteries after a local bank robbery. Here are descriptions, trailers and our plan for this event: THE CHRISTOPHERS: The children of a once famous artist hire a forger to complete some unfinished, long ago abandoned canvases so they'll have a better inheritance when he dies. It is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning and James Corden. BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film is earning an excellent 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes where critics call it a “dynamic, emotional and surprising journey” and a “compelling chamber piece that works like intellectual comfort food.” Others call the film, an “incredibly funny, comedy drama with plot reversals that make it feel like it’s on the verge of a thriller!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H79-EqzmdwY&t=20s NORMAL: This action-crime-thriller follows a man who comes to the sleepy town of Normal, Minnesota to serve as the temporary sheriff. But a bank robbery leads him to a criminal underground reaches throughout the entire town. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Bob Odenkirk, Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. The film comes from the same team that brought us Nobody and the John Wick series, so expect an over-the-top, action-filled thrill ride! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmm-lM33Qw0&t=19s PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime. Once showtimes are announced, advance ticket purchase is advised (GFC website preferred)! Please list your movie of choice and seat number in the Comments section of this event. Showtimes and complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. PARKING: Close, convenient parking is available in the nearby garage (located between 9th and 11th, just off High St). Bring your ticket with you and have it validated at the theater and for $2, you’re covered for the night! Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
City Lights (1931)
City Lights (1931)
In *City Lights*, Chaplin's Little Tramp meets a blind girl selling flowers who mistakes him for a wealthy man. When he learns that an operation may restore her sight, he sets off to earn the money she needs to have the surgery. He also befriends an alcoholic millionaire who only recognizes him when he is drunk. When the blind girl and her grandmother fall behind in the rent and face eviction, he tries working and even enters a boxing competition to raise the money they need. Regarded as Chaplin's masterpiece, *City Lights* has been ranked on more than seventeen "100 greatest movies of all time" lists. Orson Welles cited it as his favorite picture. *City Lights* is available for streaming on Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBOMax, Tubi and PlutoTV. The Columbus Library lists three copies on blu-ray and eight copies on DVD. Watch the movie on your own, then join us upstairs at East Market to discuss the film.

LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details: IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events! Should be a good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
