Smerconish Mingle Meetup
### **Civil conversation. Diverse perspectives. Curiosity over persuasion.**
We meet on the third Thursday every month at 6:30 pm at the Courtyard Marriott, Annapolis on Riva Rd. This group is for people who want to meet others outside their usual circles and have thoughtful, respectful conversations about current events, politics, culture, and related topics.
The goal isnât to debate or âwinâ an argument. Itâs to hear different perspectives, understand how others think, and have civil conversations in a low-pressure, safe setting. People are welcome to talk or just listen. We will sometimes break into smaller groups depending on how many attend.
The idea is inspired by political commentator, Michael Smerconish (POTUS on SiriusXM and CNN), who often talks about the importance of getting outside our information bubbles and engaging with people who donât all think the same way.
There arenât many rules beyond being respectful and civil. Iâm also new to the area, so part of this is simply about meeting people and building community. So far the group has been an even mix of men and women, varied ages (20's to 70's) and varied backgrounds.
Some people are familiar with Smerconish, others found us through Meetup, which honestly makes the mix even better.
Feel free to message me with any questions.

April 19 Invasive Plant Removal at TRI
It's April and it's time to get outside! We are NPS Weed Warriors and Arlington Regional Master Naturalists and you should volunteer with us on Sunday, April 19 to learn about nature and remove invasive plants from everyone's favorite urban island.
Meet us at the entrance to the bridge (on the parking lot side, look for the sign) at 10:00 and bring your garden gloves and loppers/pruners if you have them. If not, we can provide gloves and tools. Wear long sleeves and pants and don't forget a water bottle.
We will have tasks ranging from easy (cutting English ivy and honeysuckle vines from trees) to hard (sawing down bush honeysuckle).
Parking at TRI can be tight if it's a pretty day. When the parking lot is full, you can park in Rosslyn and take the trail down. If you can bike or walk or take public transit, that's wonderful.
We'll see you there!
Erica, Stephanie, and Heidi
P.S. If you can't wait until then to RIP (Remove Invasive Plants!), go here to find more volunteer opportunities in Arlington parks:

Saturday Mornings @ East Market
Let's grab some coffee/food and share a morning chat! The East Market has an ample parking lot and outdoor and indoor seating.
Grab a cup of coffee from Winston's Coffee & Waffles or on your way to East Market and meet us on the second floor - table behind or east of the elevator.

Sunday funday: let's play dodgeball at Scioto Audubon park
Dodgeball is back again!
If youâve been wanting to come out, this is an easy one to join. Weâll be playing for about 1.5 to 2 hours, you do not need to bring any equipment, and no experience is needed.
We use a specific set of rules and equipment to make the games run better and keep them fun for everybody, not just people who already know how to play.
If it rains, the event will be canceled.
Conversacion en espaĂąol (en persona)
While some are still meeting online, this is an in person event. Please note that we have attendees of all levels of speaking, including some native speakers. All are welcome!
Also, as we meet at the same time and place each week, many donât RSVP on the app, so we will likely have more attendees than noted here.
Note: if you are asked to pay and upgrade the Meetup app, this is not necessary. You can ignore this and still attend our meetings.
Find us on our [Facebook group](https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1EKw86WJCp/?mibextid=wwXIfr).
