Welcome to the next 2026 AWS Melbourne Well-Architected User Group Meetup!
Hi Architects,
Welcome to our next AWS Melbourne Well-Architected User Group Meetup for 2026, including more exceptional speakers and topics! :-D
At each meetup we covered off various pillars in detail, best-practices and insights from industry leaders that specialise in the Well-Architected Framework.
And giving away drones, of course. Lots of drones.
**Please also note that AWS Security now requests a company name and company email where it is available. If you are a student, please list your institution and your student email address at that institution 👍**
We’ll be updating throughout the month with more speakers and our speakers so far this month include:
* **Mystery Speaker**
**Well-Architected Agents**
In this talk we will go into the detail of not only the launch of the first Well-Architected agents from both AWS and other AWS partners (and what they can and can't do) but will also go through best-practice agentic architecture as verified by AWS senior architects.
This month's menu will include:
* Pizzas
* Beer: Nastro Azzurro
* Wine: Big and red 🤤
NB: Please check in up the stairs from the ground floor to the Mezzanine Level.
So come join us at 5:30 for a 6pm **SHARP** start, followed by beer, wine, pizza and friendly networking after our talks :-)
(Please note that by registering to attend you agree to your details being shared as and where required with Amazon Web Services and AWS Well-Architected User Group partners)

Sketchy Behaviour with Roxy Rawhide (Creative Art Workshop)
Adults have basically been robbed of the right to play. Creativity started needing a purpose, a product, or at least a gallery invite. Meanwhile, it’s human to dance, it’s human to sing, and it’s human to draw, especially poorly!
Sketchy Behaviour is here to break that spell.
([Link to tickets here](https://www.trybooking.com/DIGHO))
Doors open at 6pm, settle in and get your drinks at the bar (mocktails available).
At 7pm, the night begins:
• Guided drawing activities with your host, prompts and visual inspiration provided
• Three activities/games per night a mix of collaborative chaos and solo scribbling
• Breaks between rounds to regroup, hit the bathroom, top up a drink, grab some nibbles, and mingle with fellow doodlers
It’s all about connecting through process rather than polishing a product.
Expect laughter, strange drawings, and surprising conversations. In a world drowning in increasingly polished AI art, making something imperfect is a revolutionary act.
Supplies provided.
Masks welcome.
Sharing your weird creations, highly recommended.
Come draw like a kid, laugh like a fool, and leave with memories instead of masterpieces.
Note: Pride of our Footscray is located on the first floor of a building with no elevator and is therefore not wheelchair accessible. We apologise for our reduced accessibility.

***Building AI Applications with Agentic AI, GenAI Workflows & Multi-Agent Systems***
We’re gearing up for another massive night on **Thursday, 14th May**. We’ve got an incredible lineup of speakers, a hands-on agenda, and our wonderful MC, **Annemarie Boicovitis**, to guide us through the evening.
**📅 AGENDA**
1️⃣ **Implementing Voice AI Agents** **David Galtieri (DepthNode)** David has been deep in the trenches implementing AI chatbots for enterprise. He’ll share insights on moving beyond text and the mechanics of deploying production-ready Voice AI.
2️⃣ **Round Table Discussion: Is software engineering dead?** **Featuring event host Dr. George Vossos** A community-wide debate on the existential questions facing developers today. George will be joining the panel to dive into how AI-augmentation is shifting the role of the engineer.
3️⃣ **The New Agentic Skill Set & Hiring Trends** **Joh Leonhardt** Our regular AI futurist breaks down what "agentic skills" actually look like in practice and exactly what the industry is looking for in its next wave of AI hires.
4️⃣ **Zero to markermate.ai: The Reality of Building an AI SaaS** **Ryan Sinnott** One of our founding members, Ryan, tells the "real story" of building and launching his own AI SaaS—the technical hurdles, the pivots, and what it actually takes to get to market.
***
Whether you're a seasoned dev or just curious about the agentic future, come for the technical insights and stay for the networking with Melbourne’s AI community.
***
🌍 **Live-streamed globally** — YouTube link shared on the day (EU + US welcome!)

**Why attend?**
If you’re building (or about to build) agentic AI systems, this is the room where you’ll pick up reusable patterns, avoid common traps, and meet others shipping in the same space - developers, data folks, founders, and technical leaders.

\| 6:30pm \| Event begins\. Introductions \|
\| 6:40pm \| Andrew Murphy — The five stages of losing our craft \|

Pour House Trivia at Sully's Pour House (Herndon)
Let’s kick this off at Sully’s Pour House in Herndon on Wednesday the 20th. There is free parking in the back ('Municipal’ lot).
The game starts at 7 but try to be there by 6:45 to pick categories. We’ll be getting in around 6:15 to try for a ‘high’ table, and you’re welcome to join us. We do tend to leave when the game finishes, but no one else has to.
Team size is limited to 6, so only sign up if you can make it – and please remember to cancel as soon as possible If something changes.
Look forward to seeing you!
Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center Star Party
Members of the public are invited to view the wonders of the universe through the telescopes of NOVAC volunteers at the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. You do not need to be a member of the club or own any astronomical equipment to attend. Telescopes will be provided by the Smithsonian and pre-approved members of the NOVAC.
No other personal telescopes are permitted at the event.
The event will take place on the bus parking lot of the museum. **Please park your vehicle at the south end of the main visitors lot and follow signs and red lights to the observing site. As a reminder, parking during the event is free.**
Have a cosmic question? One of NOVAC's astronomers or museum staff will be happy to help you. As the sky gets dark, be prepared to enjoy the wonders of the night sky!
Don't forget to dress warmly. Please check the weather forecast. For lighting, cover a flashlight in red cellophane (the darker the better). Bring along water to keep hydrated.
Note: This outdoor event is weather-dependent and may be cancelled because of significant cloud cover or precipitation.
Zen Chat and Sit Meditation via Zoom
This is a **virtual event via Zoom** (Zoom link will be shared with participants who have RSVP'd the evening prior to this event).
We continue exploring the foundational Buddhist sutra: the **Heart Sutra**. This the shortest sutra but the most fundamental.
Our meeting schedule will be as follows:
* **40 minutes:** Sitting meditation
* **5 minutes:** Break
* **45 minutes:** Group discussion of the Heart Sutra.
During the sitting meditation session, please find a comfortable spot and preferably sit in a non-roller chair (or on your meditation pad/pillow). If you are a first timer, detailed instructions will be provided when we meet at 1801 Robert Fulton Drive).
