Competition Night - **Topic: Images from SSCC Field Trips** – **THIS IS AN IN PERSON EVENT!!** Ron Peiffer is the Vice President for Contests for Arundel Camera Club, the Vice President of the Creative Photography Society of Baltimore, and Member-at-Large for the Maryland Photography Alliance. His work has appeared in Maryland Photography Alliance gallery shows over the past several years, and he has received the Frederick R. Kelly Photographer of the Year award from the Arundel Camera Club 4 times in 5 years. Ron achieved a Master’s Certificate in Black and White Photography with the Arundel club in 2020. He is an MPA-certified judge and serves on several MPA committees, including the contest, judging, and finance committees. He has traveled extensively in the U.S. — in southeast Utah and northern New Mexico to document ancient puebloan sites and desert landscape and up and down the East Coast, where cities and small towns and landscapes provide an array of subjects with interesting colors, forms and histories. Ron aims to have his images “produce emotion, to evoke a memory, or to associate an image with something in the viewer’s life.” Ron shot film for many years before moving to digital. Competition judges will notice these flaws first! The techniques applied are targeted to make your images way better -- FAST! You will LEARN HOW TO improve your portrait and lifestyle people photography by applying strategic edits to one or more images in Lightroom accompanied by some Photoshop (when necessary). These Lightroom techniques and unique application of these tools are seldom used but fast and effective. The students will be able to follow along with the edits using the same image as the instructor. A follow-along outline and practice files are provided. The Lightroom portion focuses on- and demonstrates the specific use of the basic and ADVANCED tools of the Develop Module; it's assumed you have some knowledge already of the Library Module, rating images, and organizing your images into Collections. In this class we will explore how photography can re-imagine three-dimensional works through thoughtful observation and creative choices. By paying close attention to light, shadow, texture, and perspective, photographers can reveal new interpretations of sculptures, highlighting details, moods, and relationships that may not be immediately visible to the naked eye. Through guided looking and hands-on practice in the galleries, students will learn how camera position, framing, depth of field, and timing transform solid, static objects into dynamic photographic images. Whether isolating a gesture, emphasizing scale, or experimenting with abstraction, this class encourages photographers to move beyond documentation and toward personal expression, using sculpture as a powerful starting point for visual storytelling.
