Deep Conversation - Question Chosen in Session
Welcome to our weekly event in the upstairs room of The Sister Café, rue Chair et Pain 3, one block from the Grand Place. Please get there early enough to order your drink at the bar first. Thank you!
After introductions we will collect questions from the group participants, choose one by voting then discuss it for an hour. Then most of us stay for drinks and bizarre conversations.
Past questions have been wide and not confined to academic philosophy:
What is a genuine friend?
Is social media turning us into emotional zombies?
Do we lose some of the experience of things by defining them?
Are we driven by sex?
Is loneliness a personal failure?
Is morality relative?
**Crucially, be kind and respectful and generous** in your disagreements; remember how much you personally enjoy someone else proving you wrong before celebrating your cutting counterexamples.

Let's meet at Carpe Diem for another round of games and laughs.

UNO #473
Let's continue the tradition and play UNO, everybody is welcome :)
If you're on the waitlist please check your messages, especially on Sunday. If people drop off last minute I tend to message people on the waitlist to see who can come.
We'll be playing at the lobby of Radisson RED, Brussels. The address of the hotel is:
Rue d'Idalie 35, 1050 Bruxelles
My number is 0471 45 55 02. Feel free to call if you cannot solve a physics question, cannot find the place or simply need a hug.
I have quickly written a set of rules on how we play. It is assumed that the reader has a basic concept of the game.
***
Setup:
* Each player starts with 6 or 7 cards each (depending on total number of players)
* A card is shown in play in the middle of everyone, this is known as the top card.
Goal:
* The goal of the game for each player is to get rid of all cards in your hand
Rules:
* Whenever you go from two cards to one card, you have to say "UNO".
* Each player takes his turn one by one, initially going in the clock-wise direction
* A card may be played if it matches the same colour or same number or same type as the top card in play
* The two black cards (Draw 4 and Wild) can be played regardless of the top card in play.
* Interruption rule: You may interrupt the general flow of the game (clockwise or counter-clockwise) if you have the EXACT same card as the top card in play. If you manage to play the card prior to the person whose turn it's supposed to be, then the game continues on from you in the same direction it was previously. (Unless the reverse card was interrupted, then the direction changes).
* Draw2 or Draw4 cards can be played in accordance to the interruption rule. The following person after the interrupt has to take the accumulated number of cards. If however, cards have already been drawn AND seen by the person who was supposed to take the cards, then only the remainder of cards has to be drawn.
* Once someone has no cards remaining in his hand, play stops and we start counting points.
Points:
* Number cards have the face value as the number of points. i.e. number 6 is worth 6 points, number 0 is worth 0 points, number 4 is worth 4 points.
* Skip, reverse and Draw2 are worth 20 points each
* Wild and draw4 are worth 50 points each

Family Constellations Circle in Brussels - May
This is an open Circle for anyone and open to constellate on any subject. It's a good way to get started if you've been wanting to see what Constellations is all about. We will start with some bodywork exercises and then there will be time for three Constellations on any topic.
A Constellation is a means for accessing the timeless map you hold within, linking the past to the present and the present to the future. It's a tool to find the origin of the problems we face today such as repeated patterns, blockages, relationship difficulties or health concerns, to name a few, and has the power to reveal hidden dynamics not visible to the normal eye. Then a healing exchange takes place and steps are taken to free you from the past and put you on a road to freedom, understanding and authenticity for your future.
There are two ways to participate, either as a participant or Space Holder in the Circle or to bring a topic to constellate as an Issue Holder, which is limited to three places. Although one person will bring a subject to constellate, everyone participates. A Constellation is a Healing Circle for all who attend.
Price for Space Holders: 50 Euros (12 spots)
Price for Issue Holders: 165 Euros (3 spots)
Date: Sunday, May 10th
Time: 3:00 to 7:00 pm
Location: Shanti Home: Rue Darwin 8, Brussels 1190 (Forest)
\*There are three spots available for Constellations. Contact me if you'd like to reserve one of these spots.
\*Spots are limited for both roles to ensure enough space in the room, although the room is very spacious.
*Modified price for students or if you are unemployed. Write me if this is your case.*Payment must be made beforehand. You can register either to the following account or pay by credit card or PayPal by following the link to the website.

Building Scalable Customer Identity Resolution Pipelines on AWS Using AI
Customer identity resolution becomes increasingly complex as organizations scale across multiple systems, regions, and data formats. Traditional rule-based approaches often fail to keep up with data variability, require constant manual tuning, and struggle with real-time processing needs.
This session presents a practical approach to building a scalable identity resolution pipeline using AWS services and modern AI techniques. The architecture combines data ingestion through Amazon S3 and AWS Glue, transformation pipelines using Spark on EMR, and machine learning models deployed via SageMaker for entity matching and standardization. Graph-based relationship modeling is implemented using Amazon Neptune to improve resolution accuracy by incorporating household and shared attribute context.
We will walk through how machine learning models can be used for name and address normalization, how intelligent blocking strategies improve matching efficiency, and how feedback loops can be introduced to continuously improve accuracy. The session also highlights how serverless components such as AWS Lambda can be used for orchestration and real-time processing.

CBusData - Practical AI for Power BI Developers
Practical AI for Power BI Developers
A year ago, “agentic AI” was mostly hype for Power BI teams. Today, it deserves your undivided attention. For Power BI pros, there is now a real opportunity to reduce repetitive development work, accelerate delivery, and help developers do more, but only when strong DataOps practices are in place to make AI workflows effective.
This session is a no-nonsense introduction to effective AI patterns for Power BI and Fabric development. Along the way, we will make sense of the growing pile of terminology, including skills, plugins, hooks, and MCP. You will see examples of how modern AI tooling can help with development tasks across Power BI and Fabric, along with the prerequisites, guardrails, and DataOps principles needed to use it responsibly.
Whether you're burned out on AI hype or already using Copilot CLI daily, this session will show you the foundations that are finally making AI-assisted development genuinely useful.
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Mapping and Dashboards
**Total Eclipse of the Chart: School Redistricting Dashboards**
In this presentation, we will explore the utilization of maps, sets, and SQL within a Tableau dashboard to help provide “what-if” analyses generated through the use of a mapped dashboard, providing different scenarios and the potential implications of these.
While in this use case we are focused on a large school district, the concepts of utilizing existing data to explore the future impacts of modifying different geographic boundaries can be useful to many industries, balancing the mix of maps with visual analytics.

The Mythical Data Warehouse: The World Is Hybrid
Dear Illinois Prairie PUG members,
Our next meetup will take place in a **new location**. Please read **the whole announcement** carefully to note all the changes.
Our new meeting place is **Chicago Innovations at 1 W. Monroe**.
*Talk Title*: pg_lake: Unifying transactional and analytical data with Postgres
*Speaker*: Elizabeth Christensen, Snowflake
*Talk Description*
The data world used to be defined by “transactional" (OLTP) and “analytical” (OLAP) workloads, but we’ve asked ourselves, “Why not both?” A new series of extensions called pg_lake has just been released to connect Postgres to object storage and open table formats - like csv, Parquet, and Iceberg. pg_lake bridges the two worlds of transactional and analytical data for a vendor neutral, open source, unified data stack.
This talk will explore the pg_lake extension, including how to build it, and demos of using it with modern data workloads in object storage like Amazon S3. We’ll create simple data pipelines with no ETL and high performance analytics.
pg_lake is more than just an extension. It is the foundation to a fully unified data path with 100% open source tools backed by PostgreSQL, DuckDB, Iceberg, and Polaris.
*Agenda*
5:20 - doors open
5:30 - pizza arrives
6:00 - 6:10 - Hettie D. Opening remarks
6:10- 6:20 - Hettie D. Data warehouse history overview
6:20 - 6:50 Elizabeth C. pg_lake: Unifying transactional and analytical data with Postgres
6:50 - 7:00 Q&A
7:00 - 7:50 - Open discussion and networking
7:50 - 8:00 - Cleanup time and closing
*Notes about our new venue*.
I am delighted to have an independent venue for the first time since I am hosting the meetups. I hope that this will be our permanent home. And as you all know, with more freedom comes more responsibilities.
You will notice the change in the RSVP form.
We are thankful to our hosts and promise to be responsible.
We comply with the [PostgreSQL Code of Conduct](https://www.postgresql.org/about/policies/coc/).
We do not want to waste food, so please indicate your dietary preferences.
We will not close the RSVP in the morning of the meetup, but please do your best to RSVP in advance so that we can order the appropriate amount of food and drinks.
Also, all meetups will be hybrid - please don't forget to indicate whether you are attending in-person or virtually.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you all at our new location!
