Photo Class: Exploring Street Photography
THIS CLASS IS OFFERED THROUGH CAPITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CENTER **PLEASE REGISTER WITH CAPITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CENTER, NOT MEETUP!** https://capitalphotographycenter.com/classes/class/2026-05-09-exploring-street-photography Street photography is very popular now more than ever because photographers have access to high quality cameras in mobile phones and smaller high resolution digital cameras. A camera’s ease of access and proliferation raises the issues of ethics and privacy in public places and the difference between a snapshot and a street photograph. This hands-on class will explore the unique aspects of the street photography genre. Michael Koren will be your guide as you create compelling photographs that go beyond the ordinary snapshot. First, you’ll learn pro level tips and techniques and discuss privacy issues associated with street photography. Then, with Michael’s guidance and direction, the group will head out to photograph near the White House in Lafayette Square. You’ll create photographs that demonstrate your personal vision while using your own gear optimized for street photography. We'll then head back to the classroom for image reviews and feedback. Topics include: -Proper techniques and settings for street photography -Pro tips and techniques for capturing compelling images -Create captivating images using anticipation, patience, composition and visualization -Hands-on image capture -Privacy and ethics concerning street photography -Image review and feedback Recommended gear: -Although any camera will do, for best results we recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual exposure controls -Lenses in the range of 28mm - 70mm (zoom or prime) -Fully charged camera battery with an optional spare -Camera instruction manual (paper or electronic) -No tripod, no flash Class size is very limited *** • Important to know **THIS CLASS IS OFFERED THROUGH CAPITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CENTER** https://capitalphotographycenter.com/classes/class/2026-05-09-exploring-street-photography

VSDC LGBTQ+ & ALLIES Collaging, Creating, and Community (2.0)
VSDC LGBTQ+ & ALLIES Collaging, Creating, and Community (2.0)
Back by poplar demand! You are invited to join the [Veg Society of DC (VSDC)](http://vsdc.org/) and your fellow LGBTQ+ vegan and veg-curious folks (and their allies this time) at another event where we'll share in community while making collages or otherwise being creative. We'll be meeting at [Southwest Neighborhood Library](https://www.dclibrary.org/plan-visit/southwest-library) (900 Wesley Pl SW, Washington, DC.) in the Large Meeting Room on May 9 from 2:30-4:30pm. The host will bring some magazines, glue, paper, and scissors. There will also be some colored pencils and activity books available as well. Feel free to also bring your own crafting supplies if you'd like, as long as they don't make a mess (no permanent markers, paint, etc.) The host will provide a few vegan snacks as well, but please bring your own water. (The library has strict rules on what refreshments are allowed in the meeting room and they must be pre-approved, so please don't bring in additional food or drink items.) This event is indoors so it will proceed even if it's raining. **Transportation** The library is just a short walk from [Waterfront Metro Station](https://www.wmata.com/rider-guide/stations/waterfront.cfm) on the Green line. There is limited parking in a lot at the library as well as street parking. **WHEN:** Saturday May 9, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. **SPECIAL NOTE:** Because this event is being hosted at a DC public library, it must be open to members of the public and the library's patrons if they care to join. Therefore this event is also open to allies of the LGBTQ+ community. The host will ensure that any drop-in participants adhere to the library's and VSDC's requirements regarding creating a safe space for participants. (See "About the Group" section below for more information.) ***About the Group*** *Unless noted otherwise, VSDC's LGBTQ+ events are intended for queer/questioning folks who self-identify as LGBTQ+. The events are meant to serve as a safe space to share community with other self-identified queer or questioning LGBTQ+ vegan or vegan-curious people. However, we appreciate our allies and we plan to host "LGBTQ+ & ALLIES" events approximately quarterly - to welcome non-queer allies into our events in order to share community with our fellow vegans/veg curious VSDC participants. If the event is an "& ALLIES" event, it will be clearly identified as such in the name of the event. Any person who participates in an "& ALLIES" event must be supportive of LGBTQ+ persons, their lifestyle, and their gender expression; unsupportive or combative individuals will be removed from events and banned from future VSDC LGBTQ+ events. Please note that any and all questions related to gender/LGBTQ+ issues that may arise during either LGBTQ+ or LGBTQ+ & ALLIES events must be posed ONLY to event host, Susan, and not be asked of any other meetup participants in order to respect their privacy and promote their personal safety.* **Update Your RSVP** Please change your RSVP if you can no longer make it. **VSDC: More Than A Meetup** We are delighted to have you as part of The Veg Society of DC Vegan Meetup group, and we look forward to seeing you at our events. Mindful Photography Walk – A Gentle Pause in Nature
Mindful Photography Walk – A Gentle Pause in Nature
Join me for a small, mindful photography walk in nature. (**NOTE Time is 9:00 AM EST(Meetup is having technical Issue))** This is a slow, intentional gathering — not focused on fitness or perfect photography — but on simply pausing, observing, and being present. We’ll walk at a gentle pace, with moments of quiet, and a few light prompts to help you notice details you might normally miss. 📷 You don’t need any photography experience — a phone camera is enough. This is also not a business networking event. It’s a calm space to connect with nature and, if it feels natural, with like-minded people. 🌿 What to expect: • A slow-paced, relaxed walk • Moments of silence and observation • Simple reflection prompts 📍 Location: [ Red Trabue Nature Preserve] ⏱ Duration: \~60 minutes This is a small, initial gathering as I begin creating this space through WellGratiVibes — a blend of mindfulness, nature, and quiet connection. If this resonates with you, you’re welcome to join.

If you’re a beginner and want to experiment, I’ll have a couple of starter kits available so you can try things out—whether that’s blinking your first LED, putting something on a display, or experimenting with simple sensors. No pressure and no experience required—just an interest in learning and building. While we continue to pursue a more permanent venue for this Meetup, we’ll be using public library facilities based on availability. This session will be at the Worthington Park Library in the Olentangy Meeting Room.

Our workshops are open to everyone (unless otherwise noted - which is extremely rare). You can attend a workshop that best suits your schedule even if it is in a different community than your own. **"Why is registration closed?** Can I just show up?"
