Hey, everyone! I’m going to cycle through some regional classics in the coming months as I come back from plantar fasciitis. So this is Ramsay’s Draft, a roughly 16-18 mile circuit described in my book under the Wild Oak chapter. In a nutshell, we’ll meet up Saturday morning at Vienna, rationalize cars, and drive out. We’ll hike along ridge line in the afternoon before reaching Hiner Springs, one of the higher campsites we routinely use in our area (it could be cool). Sunday, we’ll wake early and descend the draft, which will involve many, many water crossings before we regain the cars. Dry clothes. Pub. Home. I can take 10. The trip is ideal for new people. Join Sarah and Willow for a walk at the Arboretum! We will meet at the Visitor Center Parking at 9:00am and plan to go for an hour and half walk. The azaleas will be blooming, so we will start there. magnolias. Then we will do a big loop to check out the lilacs end up back at the Capital Columns. Time: 9:00am - 10:30ish. Our regular Sunday meetup at the Shirlington Dog Park -- members start arriving around 10:15 a.m. You'll always find an Aussie to play with. There are 3 entrances, so wander the park -- the dogs will find each other! For puppies, Shirlington has a small dog park within the larger dog park. It's the prefect place for your puppy to gain confidence and socialize with others. There is also plenty of room to run. Just a reminder, the Dog Park is under attack by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners. While early plans to decrease the size of the park by 50% has been tabled, it's important to remind Arlington County how important this park is to dogs and owners. This variety of trees provides plenty of shade and a beautiful backdrop of flora and fauna throughout the hike. Certain sections can become slippery and muddy, especially after rainfall. A picnic area along the loop is perfect for taking a break and enjoying the natural surroundings.

We will e-bike from Peirce Mill in Rock Creek Park through Takoma Park, and then on to the Sligo Creek Trail. From Sligo Creek we head west past Holy Cross Hospital and through the Forest Glen neighborhood. We then turn south on to Rock Creek Trail. Earth Day Festivities with occur in Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park, approximately 6 miles into the ride. Face painting, snow cones, art activities and exhibits promoting a variety of environmental and sustainability causes will be there!
