Labor: Past, Present, and Future ā Work, Power, and Purpose
**Labor: Past, Present, and Future ā Work, Power, and Purpose**
Labor is a defining force of human life. It shapes how we survive, how societies are organized, and how power and resources are distributed. Work can provide stability, dignity, and meaningābut it can also lead to inequality, exploitation, and exhaustion. More than just an individual experience, labor is a collective reality that reflects the structure of our world.
At its foundation, labor is tied to survival. Like all living beings, humans must expend energy to sustain life. Our bodies and minds are wired for effort, cooperation, and problem-solving. Yet human labor goes far beyond biologyāit is structured by economic systems, cultural values, and political decisions that determine who works, how, and for whose benefit.
Across history, labor has continuously evolvedāand so have the struggles surrounding it. Workers have organized to demand rights, protections, and fair wages, giving rise to unions, movements, and political parties. In many countries, labor movements shaped modern democracy, from the Social Democratic Party of Germany in Germany to the Labour Party in the UK, alongside similar movements across Europe and beyond. These efforts are remembered and celebrated globally on Labor Day.
Labor is not only a human phenomenon. In the natural world, cooperation, division of roles, and collective effort are essential for survivalāfrom insect colonies to social mammals. These systems offer a broader perspective on work as something deeply rooted in life itself, while also highlighting what makes human labor unique: its complexity, inequality, and capacity for change.
In todayās world, labor is undergoing rapid transformation. Automation, digital platforms, and globalization are reshaping traditional employment. Stable careers are giving way to flexibleāand sometimes precariousāforms of work.
At the same time, the psychological experience of labor is becoming more visible: questions of burnout, motivation, identity, and purpose are central to how people relate to their work.
Looking ahead, the future of labor may challenge long-held assumptions. Artificial intelligence and robotics could significantly reduce the need for human labor in many sectors, while increasing demand in others. This raises fundamental questions: What is the role of work in human life? How should wealth be distributed? And how do we define purpose in a world where labor is no longer central to survival?
We will explore how labor has evolved through historyāfrom early forms of work to modern economiesāand how worker movements and political forces like the Social Democratic Party of Germany and the Labour Party shaped rights and social change.
Weāll also reflect on labor as a biological, psychological, and social experienceāhow effort, motivation, and cooperation shape both humans and the natural worldāand how work today is being transformed by technology, from gig economies to automation. Finally, weāll look ahead to the future of labor, asking what happens if work changes fundamentally, and how we might rethink purpose, fairness, and the role of labor in our lives.
Join us for a critical and engaging discussion on laborānot only as work, but as a force that shapes society, identity, and the future. Together, weāll reflect on how labor defines our lives today and how it might be reimagined tomorrow.

Real Long Term Friendship
Nice! You are looking for real long time friendship! You might have already lived in Berlin or other big cities and experienced the "Anonymous" culture for a while. Meeting random people over and over and never see the same person again! In order to find "Real Long Term Friendship" in Berlin, do as follows:
* You should not care how many people are joining this meetup.
You RVSP. Even if only one person is joining. Because if everyone are waiting for everyone else to RVSP, nobody joins and nobody finds a new friend.
* You do not care how many people of the opposite sex are joining.
You are looking for friends. Finding the best romantic partner in the world, while avoiding not very attractive others, can be your other goal, for another time. Here we are looking for Friends. Real ones.
* You are going to risk a very precious property of yours: Your time!
Yes, there are thousands of opportunities in Berlin, there might be a rock concert for free, a birthday party you might miss, an important person might call you and invite you spontaneously, but you never find new friends until you decide to risk your time and meet people anyway. "I will check my calendar and get back to you" also does not work. Commit your time and spend it. Trust me, you won't go bankrupt ;-)
* You are ready to use your phone as a real phone!
You might have been using your phone as a tablet to visit Instagram and Facebook and watch movies. But if you want to find friends, you must know that people might take your phone number and give you theirs. That means they will Call you! And you have to pick up the phone and answer it. If you want to find new friends, you must be ready to do something really hard for the first time after years: Call people first, and if they called you: Answer your phone!
* You are going to meet some people twice!
That's the point of friendship. We already can experience random encounters with random people in random places one at a time. But that is not called friendship. If you want friends, you must be ready to meet the same person more than once.
If you agree with above, RVSP and COME! You will meet other people who think the same way.
P.S: Now that you've read all the way down to here, I suggest you [watch this animation](https://player.vimeo.com/video/547249272?h=22f3dd0f6f).

Blood on the Clocktower at Manifesto! (beginner/intermediate)
Hi folks, this is the meetup group for the weekly Sunday Blood on the Clocktower games in Manifesto at Potsdamer Platz. We run beginner-friendly and intermediate-level games throughout the afternoon and evening. **Friendly newcomers of all skill levels are welcome, no experience required!**
Our group aims to provide a fun and welcoming space to experience this thrilling game of social deception. **We focus on promoting a positive and fun group atmosphere, where players donāt take themselves or the game too seriously, whether theyāre heroically winning or spectacularly losing.** Our players follow the code of conduct for the Berlin Board Gamers group and are expected to treat each other with respect and consideration ā ākilling with grace, and dying with dignityā.
We are usually able to offer two simultaneous games on Sundays. If you are marked as "attending" in Meetup and are in your seat at 15:00, your place is guaranteed for as long as you want to stay. All other seats are first come, first served. We always run at least one beginner-friendly game of the basic version of Clocktower ("Trouble Brewing") throughout the afternoon and evening. We also usually have enough players for a second intermediate-level game. If you are already very familiar with Clocktower, consider also joining our Tuesday meetup for advanced players, when we play with complex custom scripts and characters.
Blood on the Clocktower is a deep, mechanical game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception⦠think Werewolf on steroids. Each player receives a unique secret role and plays either for the good team ā the uninformed majority, gathering info and working with others to solve the puzzle ā or the evil team, the informed minority, scheming to eliminate good players and protect their demon from execution. In our beginner games no prior experience is expected and we will gladly explain the game rules to any newcomers.
We play in English so players should be able to understand and express themselves in English: an exception is possible for one pair of players willing to play together (as a āRevolutionaryā pair) where one player can interpret into and out of English. Please let us know in advance if this is the case.
We are very grateful to the wonderful folks at Manifesto for hosting our meetup! **Please support the venue during your visit by buying drinks and/or food.**

COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 ā 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process.
Fast track
⢠Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell).
⢠Show up and try it out.
⢠Complete application, etc. later.
Normal process
⢠Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/).
⢠Attend orientation in advance.
⢠At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility.
⢠Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM.
⢠Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895).
The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014.
Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
