Bigger, Better, Bolder Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa
Bigger, Better, Bolder Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa
**Welcome to Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa!** As the winter season wraps our city in its gentle sparkle, our community shines even brighter. This time of year reminds us how meaningful it feels to step into a space filled with warmth, laughter, music, and friendly facesโ€”exactly the kind of energy we create together every Monday. While the world outside cools down, our dance floor becomes a cozy haven of joy, connection, and beautifully shared moments. Every Monday feels like a touch of winter magicโ€ฆ only with a whole lot more rhythm. My objective has always been to create a different kind of social gatheringโ€”one that is open, non-judgmental, non-salacious, and safe. A place where you can meet people just like you, where socializing and dancing come together to help build community and tear down the walls that separate us. Here, we make new friends, feel a sense of belonging, and enjoy the calmness that comes from knowing we are in a safe and welcoming space. Many times, I have been asked, โ€œWhy host an event on Monday night?โ€ Many people escape on the weekend and dread Mondays when they return to work. I believe that if you dance and socialize on a Monday, you infuse your week with joy and positive energy, giving your life balance and helping you face your challenges with enthusiasm and confidence. Weโ€™re also thrilled to announce that our trial of advanced Bachata lessons, which began last September, has been a resounding success! Building on this momentum, weโ€™re excited to offer an enhanced schedule for 2025. Our dance evenings will now feature three hours of classes: one hour of beginner to intermediate Bachata, one hour of advanced Bachata, and one hour of beginner to intermediate Salsa. As always, the entrance fee remains $15 for a night of 2 lessons and social dancing. For those interested in the advanced Bachata lessons, there will be an additional $5 fee. Hereโ€™s our updated schedule: **Miss Bachata โ€“ Main Ballroom** โ„๏ธ 7:00 pm โ€“ 8:00 pm: Beginner to Intermediate Bachata Lesson (No partner required) โ„๏ธ 8:00 pm โ€“ 12:00 am: Social Dancing **Miss Salsa โ€“ Round Room** โ„๏ธ 7:00 pm โ€“ 8:00 pm: Advanced Bachata Lesson (+$5) NEW โ„๏ธ 8:00 pm โ€“ 9:00 pm: Beginner to Intermediate Salsa Lesson โ„๏ธ 9:00 pm โ€“ 12:00 am: Social Dancing **Additional Details:** โ„๏ธ Free Parking โ„๏ธ Full Bar (Free Water, Beer: $5.75) Over the past decade, organizing Latin dancing events in Mississauga has been a labor of love. Our mission has always been to foster a sense of community, proving that the connections we share are far stronger than the differences that divide us. Loneliness is a growing concern, with over half of U.S. adults and many Canadians experiencing its effects. The COVID-19 pandemic has only heightened this issue. Harvard University's long-term study on happiness, which began in 1938, highlights the detrimental impact of loneliness on health. People with strong social connections experience slower mental and physical decline and greater overall happiness compared to those who are isolated. Here are some key findings from the study: โ€ข Close ties help delay mental and physical decline more than money, fame, social class, IQ, or genetics. โ€ข Relationship satisfaction is a better predictor of aging well than cholesterol levels in middle age. โ€ข A strong sense of community improves memory function. โ€ข Loneliness can be as harmful to health as smoking or alcoholism. Thereโ€™s hope! Strengthening our relationships and supporting community initiatives can build healthier, happier lives. Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa provides a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, expand your social circle, and enjoy a safe, welcoming, authentic environment. Bring your open heart and a smile, and weโ€™ll take care of the rest. **Cheers to building an authentic, joyful, and connected community!** **Anna G.** https://www.facebook.com/groups/1871491806494168/ https://www.facebook.com/EventsByAnnaG
Weekly Meditation
Weekly Meditation
***Welcome to Community Mindfulness Meditation (GCNC Meditates)!*** **Where and when:** We meet at the **George Chuvalo Neighbourhood Centre** in the Junction Triangle in Toronto every **Monday from 7 pm to 8 pm**. Chairs, limited cushions, and yoga mats are provided (bring your own if you have a favourite) **What and who:** weekly meditation sessions for and by neighbours and community members. No experience and no registration are needed and **attendance is free or by donation ($5 suggested, cash only in person)**. Learn more about your facilitators, JulieMae (she/her) and Christina (she/her), at https://gcncmeditates.wixsite.com/community-meditation **How (structure):** We begin by settling in and grounding ourselves in the space, with an optional check-in to share how we are feeling, followed by a 25-minute guided meditation practice. After the period of formal practice, there is a period of optional sharing once again, where practitioners can share insights, reflections, challenges, questions, ponderings, and joys. We conclude our gathering with a dedication of the good generated from our practice to specific individuals or groups of individuals. We may also set an intention for the week ahead and share thatโ€”again, always optionally. We offer these practices in a space that is inclusive of all, while recognizing that mindfulness meditation is not a one-size-fits-all approach; we therefore encourage folks to follow their inner guidance whenever needed and to ask questions and for support or guidance whenever necessary. Both facilitators are trained in trauma-informed mindfulness instruction and keep that at heart in their guidance, recognizing that we all show up with different life experiences. We facilitate these sessions with the support and guidance of our own teachers, practising and learning with them to benefit our community. **Questions:** You can contact us here on meetup, via our site, or via e-mail at gcncmeditates@gmail.com. We so look forward to meeting and practising with you, for the benefit of all.

Potluck Party!
Potluck Party!
Hello!! So sorry for disappearing off the radar (again!) but after moving last August life got very hectic and now that things are finally settling down, I'm excited to return to being social once more. My new place is significantly smaller than my last one, and while it is the perfect size for me and my husband to be comfortable, it is no longer conducive to "the more the merrier" type of get togethers. As such, if you RSVP that you will be joining us, PLEASE do everything you can to keep your commitment. I am limited to a max 15 people in the house (that's as many chairs as will fit!) so if you bail at the last minute, you are depriving someone else from being able to attend. It will be Saturday March 21st. We'll start around 6:30pm and keep going as long as you're enjoying yourselves. :) I'll take care of the plates, glasses, and cutlery, and we'll all supply the food. In your RSVP, please write what you'll be bringing, and I'll update it in here so later guests can fill in the gaps. We'll need appetizers, mains, sides, desserts, and beverages. Looking forward to seeing you! Potluck list: Vegetarian Shepherd's pie (Renu) Appetizers (Chanden) Penne pasta with chicken pesto (Sandie) TBD - planning Spring Rolls (Anita) Vegetarian bean & potato casserole (Sheila)

Recruiting Virtual Mental Health Group Leaders!
Recruiting Virtual Mental Health Group Leaders!
We are recruiting new group leaders for virtual men's groups! Our primary groups are outdoor movement groups, but we are launching virtual groups for the state of Ohio and beyond and the groups will move outside in the spring, creating room for men's groups, women's groups and coed groups all over the country. Every contribution helps us: * **Cover Essential Costs** โ€“ Donations allow us to pay essential legal, marketing, insurance, and admin costs as well as nourish the important people who run the organization. * **Grow Our Mission** โ€“ With your support, we can bring these healing experiences to thousands more people in the future and execute our long term plan to expand across the USA, affecting up to 500,000 people per year. In Person Event: The Secrets to Mental Health
In Person Event: The Secrets to Mental Health
Mental Health, how do you understand it? How can you improve it? How do you get rid of stress, anxiety and uncertainty? These emotions are buried deep in your reactive mind. Find out what the reactive mind is, and in the process find yourself. Have you ever suffered from a traumatic experience, a deep loss or been through a painful breakup? Has your ability to communicate suffered as a result? And after that, even though you "moved on" did you find that things were never quite the same? Have you ever looked at childhood photos, or reminisced your early life and wondered where that happiness and spark went? Are your emotions out of your own control? Have you ever felt, even if you arenโ€™t aware of it, that possibly you are getting in your own way of your happiness and success? How does this affect your self-confidence? Find out what is at the root of all stress, anxiety, depression and self-doubt. Find out how and why you hold yourself back from achieving your goals and having the life you have dreamed of. As soon as you learn what is at the root of these unwanted conditions, youโ€™ll see it is something you can DO something about. You will not be labeled or categorized at this MeetUp. This group is hosted by the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.
