Meditation and Discussion Group: The Laws of the Universe
Meditation and Discussion Group: The Laws of the Universe
Join Stephen Fiyalko, President of the Melbourne Theosophical Society for meditation, self attunement, study and discussion on the Laws of the Universe. We welcome all to join at 5:30pm for a 30 min Meditation and will begin the discussion group at 6:00pm. For those who prefer to just attend the discussion group you're welcome to arrive at 6pm. An understanding of and action within the Laws through our choices give practical tools for facing, managing and surmounting with confidence the many challenges we face in our daily lives, in society and the world itself. Ignorance of the Laws can leave us adrift to be buffeted and feel overwhelmed by stormy seas. Each week will look at one of the twelve Laws which are principles, not rules, seeking a deeper understanding of that Law, our and their inter-relationship with the other Laws. Discussion will involve sharing stories from our lives which contribute to a growing understanding and confidence in our lives. Each session is free, but donations are welcome.

Volleyball Training and Games - Intermediate - B Level (PVGC)
Volleyball Training and Games - Intermediate - B Level (PVGC)
Welcome to Melbourne Volleyball Academy! đŸ€— **[[WHAT]]** This session will be broken into 2 halves, 1st half is training and the 2nd half is games. Please arrive on time as we will start exactly at 6:30 PM. Our intention is to have this training be the 'next step' after our beginner-level training at North Melbourne Community Centre. We will be focusing on learning what specific roles on the court entail, improving 'volleyball IQ', breaking bad habits, and building better techniques. **[[WHERE]]** The session will be held as Pascoe Vale Girls College. Please enter via Cornwall Road through the back gates as other entrances onto the campus will be closed **[[WHO]]** The training is intended for social volleyball players at the intermediate level or 'B' level (for more details on volleyball levels, please visit our site here: https://melbournevolleyballacademy.com.au/skill-levels-explained). Players are expected to: * have strong fundamentals * pass freeballs and serve receive consistently * understand 4-2 system (pass middle rotation) * have some knowledge of 5-1 (1 setter all around) or 6-2 (back row setter only) systems * understand 'base defense' * help others and have good sportsmanship If you are a high intermediate (BB) or advanced player (A) you are more than welcome to join but you may find our open play sessions for BB/A level players more suitable. For players that are at the beginner level, we suggest attending our training on Fridays at North Melbourne Community Centre 6-9PM as beginners may find the drills and level of play too difficult. Players will be asked to attend a different session if their play is deemed unsafe or if they are not of the appropriate skill level. **[[HOW MUCH]]** $24 card payment will be collected on the day via square (EFTPOS) payment. **[[WHEN]]** The stadium is booked for 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM. However, feel free to come early and stretch as the stadium is open earlier. **Last-minute dropouts and no-shows will have a zero-tolerance policy going forward.** All players are expected to **update their RSVP at least 24 hours** in advance if they are unable to attend. This applies to players on the going list and the waitlist. **[[THINGS TO BRING]]** We ask that you bring: * Water bottle * Appropriate footwear for indoor court shoes - netball shoes, volleyball shoes, or basketball shoes would be suitable. * Wear contacts or sports glasses if possible. **[[OTHER DETAILS]]** Only those on the “going” list are permitted to play. If you are on the waitlist, or not registered at all, you will not be permitted to play.
AI-Assisted Vulnerability Research: Building a Binary Audit Agent
AI-Assisted Vulnerability Research: Building a Binary Audit Agent
**AI-Assisted Vulnerability Research: Building a Binary Audit Agent - kdz** Vulnerability research on closed-source binaries is slow, specialist work. It means pulling an executable into a disassembler, recovering its structure by hand, tracing attacker-controlled data flows, and proving that suspicious code fragments are reachable and exploitable. What if an AI agent could help drive that entire pipeline? This talk walks through my attempt to design such an agent using a custom Claude Code plugin (very much a work in progress and a learning opportunity for me). The agent orchestrates a workflow that follows a target end to end: QA'ing the decompilation, sweeping for dangerous code, reasoning over the code to build a whole-binary flow map that traces attacker-controlled input through to dangerous operations, and then attempting to craft and verify a payload that actually triggers the bug. **Location** Room 080.02.002 at RMIT (Building 80) - 445 Swanston St, Melbourne **Discord** [Discord Invite](https://discord.gg/2qcaxce8Mw) [Discord Event Info](https://discord.com/events/1347056412529791047/1477841544907325591)

Between Worlds; Exploring Shamanic Consciousness in Contemporary Australia
Between Worlds; Exploring Shamanic Consciousness in Contemporary Australia
When people think of shamanic journeying, psychedelics are often the first association. Yet in most traditions, altered states of consciousness are more commonly entered through other methods. These practices shift awareness away from linear and rational thinking into symbolic and imaginal ways of experiencing the world. A central focus of this talk is the role of mythology and symbolism as a map and compass for navigating these inner states. Mythology is not treated as abstract story or merely superstition, but as a living framework that helps organise experience, guide inner journeys, and support processes of healing and transformation. Archetypes, symbols, and mythic narratives form a structured language for making sense of what is encountered in altered states, both for individuals and communities. The talk also explores how these traditional mythological maps overlap with modern psychology. Contemporary approaches to the mind increasingly recognise symbolic processes, layered identity, trauma patterns, and the need for integration - areas long addressed within myth-based systems of understanding. We will look at how altered states are safely accessed and navigated, and how myth and symbolism provides orientation within them. Finally, the talk considers the relevance of these approaches in the modern world, particularly in contemporary Australia - offering ways of engaging meaning, psychological insight, and connection to self, others, and place through direct experience. **Guy** is a traditionally trained and initiated sangoma. A sangoma is a traditional healer of Southern Africa, effectively a shaman of the Zulu and related Nguni cultures. Born and raised in South Africa, he is one of only a handful of westerners that have undergone the long and intense ordeal of thwasa (the formal traditional training and initiation process) in order to become initiated into the traditions of the Southern African traditional healers. Guy is also a Ceremonial Leader and initiated shaman in the Spirit of the Earth Medicine Society (SOTEMS), a non-profit Australian organisation which is dedicated to developing new forms of Australian Spirituality and healing based on traditional healing (shamanic) methods for contemporary Australians. **The MTS is committed to providing events that align with and further The three objects of The Theosophical Society:** * To form a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour. * To encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science. * To investigate unexplained laws of nature and the powers latent in the human being. However this being stated, the MTS does not endorse any health, spiritual, science-related, philosophical or theological /other assertions or claims made by any facilitator we host.

Psychedelic Experiences, Integration & Peer Conversation
Psychedelic Experiences, Integration & Peer Conversation
Many people are now hearing about Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, including legal treatment pathways in Australia through authorised medical practitioners. At the same time, there are people who have had significant psychedelic experiences outside formal clinical settings and have nowhere grounded to talk about what happened afterwards. What seems less available is a simple, open space where people who have had, are considering, or are trying to make sense of these experiences can talk with others who understand that psychedelic experiences can be serious, complex, deeply personal, and sometimes difficult to explain to people who have not been through something similar. This meetup is intended as a grounded, respectful peer conversation for people who are trying to make sense of a past psychedelic experience, whether it occurred through a legal therapeutic pathway, a retreat, an underground setting, or personal use. People may come to these experiences through many different life circumstances, including depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, grief, heartbreak, existential questions, or a sense that something in their life needs to change. The focus is not on substances themselves. The focus is on integration: what happened afterwards, what changed, what became clearer, what became harder, what still feels unresolved, and how people are carrying the experience into their everyday life. We’ll meet casually at Fitzroy Gardens in East Melbourne for an informal outdoor gathering. There is no set agenda. The aim is conversation, connection, listening, and respectful discussion around meaning, mental health, trauma, grief, identity, relationships, spirituality, confusion, insight, and life after a powerful experience. Some people may describe their experience as healing or transformative. Others may feel unsettled, disappointed, overwhelmed, or unsure what to do with it. All of that is welcome. Depending on the group size, we may split into two informal spaces: 1. **A listening circle** A quiet, structured space where people can share their story without interruption, fixing, advice-giving, debate, diagnosis, or analysis. 2. **A casual discussion group** A more open space for free-flowing conversation, questions, reflections, and connection. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you like. You can also simply come to listen. Please bring your own brunch, water, chair, picnic rug, or anything else you need to feel comfortable outdoors. **Important boundaries** This is a peer-based social and educational gathering only. This event is not a substitute for professional care. No photographs of attendees are to be taken during the event. This event does not facilitate, encourage, organise, recommend, supply, sell, exchange, or discuss how to access illegal substances. No promotion of any type of services will be allowed.

Philosophy Roundtable: What is Real?
Philosophy Roundtable: What is Real?
Join us for an informal round-table on some of philosophy's oldest questions lead by Sean Crowley: What is a thing? Where do identities begin and end? Is perspective a limitation on reality, or a fundamental feature of it? And what might it mean to speak of an Absolute beyond all finite distinctions? Drawing on Spinoza, David Bohm, Carlo Rovelli, George Spencer-Brown, and Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Sean will give a condensed introduction to Groundless Perspectival Realism — a metaphysical framework that questions absolute intrinsic identity, exploring reality instead through relation, perspective, and wholeness. We will meet at the Captain Melville at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp. **Please note the new $5 mandatory donation entry fee** (cash or transfer on day) to help with MeetUp subscription costs, venue costs, etc. There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged. This event is also posted to the Socrates Cafe group. Topics include: * Identity & thinghood * Perspective & observation * Relationality and continuity * Truth & reality * The nature of the Absolute Sean Crowley is the author of the forthcoming book The Infinite Now and host of The Infinite Now with Sean Crowley, exploring metaphysics, consciousness, science, and the philosophical implications of non-duality. Hope to see you there!
