Twelfth Meetup: Beyond Flat Earth – Conspiracy Theories Worth Taking Seriously
Twelfth Meetup: Beyond Flat Earth – Conspiracy Theories Worth Taking Seriously
Join Liberty Labs Toronto for our twelfth meetup on **Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 7:00 PM** near Yonge and Eglinton! This month we’re exploring conspiracy theories — but we’re skipping the cartoonish ones. Instead, we’ll focus on more credible, historically documented, or intellectually interesting theories that challenge official narratives and often reveal real concentrations of power and incentives to deceive. We’ll examine: * Well-documented historical conspiracies that were later proven true (MKUltra, Operation Mockingbird, COINTELPRO, Tuskegee, and others) * Theories around intelligence agencies, media manipulation, and elite networks * Financial and economic “conspiracies” — how crises, money creation, and institutional incentives actually work * The lab leak debate and how information gets shaped or suppressed * How to evaluate conspiracy claims with healthy libertarian skepticism (following incentives, asking “cui bono?”, and separating signal from noise) This will be an open, respectful, and thought-provoking discussion. The goal isn’t to believe everything — it’s to understand why some theories persist, which ones have real evidence behind them, and what they tell us about power, secrecy, and individual liberty. What to expect: * Open discussion and idea-sharing (bring your own theories or questions) * Complimentary appetizers and a drink ticket * Everyone who attends will receive a million-dollar Zimbabwe note as a fun take-home reminder of real value vs. fiat illusions * Connect with 10-20 liberty-minded Torontonians Venue: Pickle Barrel (2300 Yonge St, at Yonge & Eglinton), right above Eglinton Station. Easy parking in the Yonge Eglinton Centre garage or nearby Green P lots. RSVP on Meetup to save your spot. Let’s dig into the conspiracies that actually matter — and sharpen our ability to think critically about power. See you there!

You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** A shocking story from the Toronto history books. Mercer, the Central Prison, and the Asylum all had stories of abuse of the patients and inmates. Once a person was locked behind the doors of these institutions they were forgotten and shunned. A part of shameful Toronto history. But the history has not been shared with Torontonians willingly. The stories are now just emerging. And these stories will shock walkers. This extensive tour shines a light on the inner workings of these three institutions. We will concentrate on the history of these three, the history and buildings that have survived to this day, and how to tell these stories going forward! What went on behind closed doors would shock even the most shock proof of individuals. Travel back to the time of the Mercer, the Central Prison, and the Provincial Lunatic Asylum! All three within a square mile in west end Toronto. A coincidence, I think not! The tour begins at the northeast corner of Fraser Avenue & King Street West just two blocks east of Dufferin Street on King Street. This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person! \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** Toronto is a city that hides its history in plain sight. Beneath the glass towers are layers of stories — grand hotels that vanished overnight, political scandals whispered through stone corridors, theatres that once glittered under gaslight, and laneways where the city first learned how to become a metropolis. This new Toronto History Walks tour invites the walker to slow down, and see the city differently. Over the course of 30 carefully chosen stops, this walking tour traces the landmarks that helped shape the history of Toronto. Beginning at the site of the legendary Holland House — once one of the city’s finest mansions, and a gathering place for politicians, and businessmen, the route winds through the old heart of downtown, uncovering stories both famous and forgotten. Some locations are grand and imposing. Others are easy to walk past without a second glance. Every stop reveals a piece of Toronto’s personality. At Osgoode Hall, visitors will stand before one of the city’s most elegant historic buildings. Nearby, the old banks and newspaper buildings of the financial district recall an era when Toronto proudly called itself “Toronto the Good,” even as corruption and backroom dealings simmered beneath the surface. The tour also explores the vanished city — the Toronto that survives only in photographs, and memory. Walkers will discover where magnificent Victorian structures once stood before demolition crews erased entire blocks in the name of progress. Former theatres, hotels, markets, and department stores emerge again through storytelling, helping modern explorers imagine the bustle, smoke, and noise of earlier generations. Stories of fire, disaster, celebration, and reinvention. Participants will hear how the Great Fire of 1904 transformed downtown streets, how immigrant communities reshaped neighbourhoods block by block, and how Toronto repeatedly reinvented itself through booms, depressions, wars, and waves of newcomers. But this tour is not simply about dates and buildings. It is about people. The politicians who argued over Confederation. The hotel clerks who witnessed scandals. The newspaper editors who shaped public opinion. The shopkeepers, labourers, entertainers, and ordinary Torontonians whose lives unfolded along these same streets. Toronto has always had hidden corners and strange tales: tunnels beneath streets, forgotten cemeteries beneath office towers, unsolved crimes, and buildings said to carry echoes of the past. Even longtime residents may find themselves surprised by what has been quietly standing before them all along. Come along and experience a very different city. A deep dive into our history. This walking tour begins at the southwest **corner** of Bay Street and Wellington Street adjacent to the Royal Bank Plaza building. It ends at Campbell House at Queen and University Avenue. This walking tour is for all walking levels. Please dress for the season, and hope to see you there. This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person. \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! Members range from 20-40 years old. The group is a mix of GTA locals and newcomers to Toronto from within Canada and abroad. Attendance numbers on Meetup don't reflect our actual event attendance - we typically have 15-20 community members at each event. A Common Endeavor: Building Communities That Reflect Our Highest Ideals
A Common Endeavor: Building Communities That Reflect Our Highest Ideals
Across the country, people from diverse backgrounds are working together to strengthen their neighborhoods, empower youth, support families, and create environments where everyone can contribute. In this session, we will explore Section II of *A Common Endeavor: Realizing the Promise of America*, which highlights examples of grassroots efforts that are fostering unity, service, and community transformation. Together, we will discuss: • What characteristics make communities resilient and inclusive? • How can ordinary people become agents of positive change? • What can we learn from successful community-building efforts? • How do service, friendship, and collaboration contribute to social progress? Whether you are involved in community service, civic engagement, education, faith-based activities, or simply care about the well-being of your community, your insights are welcome. **Suggested Reading:** [Section II](https://www.acommonendeavor.org/) https://www.acommonendeavor.org/
