Hear about the stories that still haunt Toronto. From the murder of a shoeshine boy to the place where the gallows were constructed. Stories of Toronto's hidden history. So you want to hear all about Toronto's darkest moments, do you? Toronto has a rich and varied history, we all know that, or we should. Let's explore new and old stories of Toronto's darkest historical moments, a new crop of dark secrets, and a few of the old stories to make the blood run cold. And these secrets will be revealed in time. That's all I'm saying. I guess you'll have to sign up and commit to the true darkness hidden in the human spirit. This horrific walking tour is for all levels and walkers. The tour begins on the site of the old Ford Hotel at the northeast corner of Dundas Street West and Bay Street, or the western doors to the Atrium on Bay. The tour ends at old City Hall on Queen Street West. And if you dare, I'll see you soon on Toronto's Darkest side. You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** Get out and explore! A brilliant spring tour awaits, and let's celebrate the coming summer. Known as Sunnybrook Farm, situated in Leaside, it was owned by Joseph and Alice Kilgour and turned over to the City of Toronto in 1928 as a public park. Joseph Kilgour was President of the Canada Paper Company. He and his wife purchased the property in the 1890s in the suburban fringe. In 1933, Kilgour Memorial Gates and plaque at Wilket Creek Park were added to honour the Kilgour family. The park is a quiet oasis in the heart of the city. But it's also about treasured Canadian history and our beloved Veterans who now call Sunnybrook Hospital home. The Kilgour family gave the land for a hospital to be erected while the old veterans centre on Christie Street was literally falling apart. That's the way to treat the Veterans who fought for our freedom, put them in a cold, wet hospital to recover, way to go I must say! This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills, however there are a few small hills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of history as well. Hope to see you there. This walking tour begins and ends at the main entrance of Edwards Gardens, 755 Lawrence Ave East, adjacent to the Lawrence Avenue TTC bus stop and parking lot! This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person! \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! All About the Historic Beaches! (EVENING EXTENDED TOUR)
All About the Historic Beaches! (EVENING EXTENDED TOUR)
\*\***The Toronto History Walks Yearly Pass is available. Get it now for $125.00 for 1 year of unlimited tours, email** [torontohistorywalks@gmail.com](http://torontohistorywalks@gmail.com%2A%2A/) **for more information or for signing up!\*\*** \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** [torontohistorywalks@gmail.com](http://torontohistorywalks@gmail.com%2A%2A/) The area was first settled in 1794 by the Ashbridge family, whose name is remembered by the nearby bay and park. Their homestead on Queen Street East was well to the west of the area currently identified as the Beaches. A later generation of the Ashbridge family rebuilt the family home in 1854 and can be seen on Queen Street East opposite the TTC barns near Kingston Road. The Beaches remained a sparely settled community until the end of the 19th century when extension of the Grand Truck Railway, the draining of the northern parts of Ashbridges Bay, and the construction of street car tracks on Queen Street and Kingston Road, opened the area to settlement. From Sunnyside Amusement Park built in 1922 to Scarboro Beach built in 1906, it seemed that Toronto cornered the market on summertime chills and thrills. We had 5 major amusement parks along our waterfront, and two smaller parks, Victoria Park and Munro Park, virtually unknown to Torontonians today, but extremely popular summertime places, years ago as pleasure parks. This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of history. It begins outside the Beaches Branch of the Toronto Public Library at Queen Street East, and Lee Avenue adjacent to Kew Gardens. The tour ends at the Neville Park Queen Street Streetcar Loop. This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person. \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **[torontohistorywalks@gmail.com](http://torontohistorywalks@gmail.com/)** This is an updated tour to the original Ward Tour introduced back in 2020. It brings in a new crop of landmarks that tell the tale of Toronto's first suburb Macaulaytown, on the property of James Macaulay. The Ward, Toronto's first suburb, first immigrant community and first large scale urban renewal project is a neighbourhood that dates to the beginnings of local history. Bounded by Yonge Street on the east, College Street on the north, University on the West, and Queen Street on the south, is a history walkers dream. But before the area developed and a civic square was even dreamed of, it was forest on the edge of Little York, with a clear flowing creek, named Taddle at its centre. A few years later James Macaulay established himself in the area northwest of the town of York. By mid-century the winds of change brought in Chinese rail workers and Jewish immigrants, mostly from Eastern Europe. The face of The Ward changed once again, but this time the ugly realties of racial injustice were prominent. With the building of the new Toronto General Hospital in 1909 the area reinvented itself, and the mass migration of jewish residents to the Kensington Market area to the west started. The Ward changed again and the idea that the area could be a pedestrian square with a new town hall at its centre took shape. And the rest as they say is history, Toronto got its new civic square and Toronto a new voice at the dawn of a new era in city building. The ward is a fascinating look at life in Toronto in the late 19th, 20th, and 21 century. For a quick preview of the walk click on the following link and enjoy https://youtu.be/4QEHjfuhmik This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of history as well. Hope to see you there. This walking tour begins on the steps of Old City Hall at the northeast corner of Queen Street West, and Bay Street. The tour returns to the start location at the Old City Hall. Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Doom and Dinosaurs
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Doom and Dinosaurs
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Doom and Dinosaurs,”** a look at how mass extinctions shaped the dinosaurs and what research on these events tells us about Earth life’s long-term prospects, with Ian Wilenzik, paleontologist and visiting assistant professor of biology at George Washington University. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-dino-doom](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-dino-doom) .] Pity the poor dinosaurs. They lacked both scientific research to help deal with potential environmental catastrophes and places where they could have a beer and discuss it. You, on the other hand, have the opportunity to come to Profs and Pints to hear a fascinating talk on the impact of mass extinctions on dinosaur evolution and what research on dinosaurs tells us about biodiversity and Earth’s current biodiversity crisis. Dr. Ian Wilenzik, who has studied and taught courses on dinosaur evolution, population spread, and extinction, will leave you with a greater appreciation of the resilience of life on earth and how we’re both the product and source of biologically catastrophic events. Many of us are familiar with how a big meteor impact about 66 million years ago wiped out the Earth’s dinosaur population, leaving us only with their feathered descendants, birds. Less well known is how the Earth actually has undergone five periods of mass extinction that wiped out nearly all life, and how dinosaurs arose from one and endured another—both caused by volcanic activity—before meeting their match in the third. To ground his discussion, Dr. Wilenzik will talk about how we study mass extinctions by looking for geologic evidence of volcanic activity, meteoric blasts, and other catastrophic activity and of gaps in the fossil record after them. He’ll also discuss what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur, describing their distinct anatomical features. He’ll talk about how they and other forms of life evolved over long periods of time and were affected by extinction events. We’ll look at how the meteor-caused mass extinction that wiped out dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous paved the way for the rise of mammals and the emergence of primates, and, eventually, us. Looking ahead to future mass extinctions and what might survive them, we’ll talk about how that plant you forget to water might have the last laugh, as well as why crocodiles might be around a while. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.) I Could Have Danced All Afternoon - Join Us!
## **Vienna Community Center 120 Cherry St SE, Vienna, VA 22180** Come spend an afternoon in Edwardian London with one of the most beloved musicals of all time — *My Fair Lady*. Join Chuck, Tom, and Suellen (who’s part of the production!) for a story full of wit, transformation, and unforgettable music. Follow Eliza Doolittle’s journey from flower girl to high society — guided (and frequently exasperated) by the brilliant, opinionated, and delightfully curmudgeonly Professor Henry Higgins. ✨ You’ll know the songs — and probably find yourself humming along: *I Could Have Danced All Night*, *On the Street Where You Live*, *Wouldn’t It Be Loverly*, *I’m Getting Married in the Morning*, and Higgins’ famously cheeky *Why Can’t the English?* It’s the perfect mix of romance, humor, and sharp-tongued charm — even better when shared with your DTs friends. Tickets are general admission, so we’ll meet at **1:30 PM** to grab seats together before the show begins. **Get Tickets:** [Vienna Parks & Recreation Ticket Page](https://vaviennaweb.myvscloud.com/webtrac/web/addtocart.html?Module=PST&PSTFMIDList=99891628&FromProgram=search&GlobalSalesArea_PSTItemQuantity=1&_csrf_token=ia5U1D656Y0E3J4H3D4Q2L4K6T5K5I446O4T4T4K4K1T5F655H6G075Q4E4T586D573R6O4J6W054E5F55075P4M4Z4P074W5F5W536J6L696D5G1I725W6P4U6N004Z4W)

Our Samhain event fee will be $25.00. Thank you for understanding. The Order of the Black Hat is an international eclectic order of witches. We take our spiritual path very seriously, yet strive not to take our egos too seriously. We each have a responsibility to grow in the wisdom, love, and power of our deities, and continually learn, heal, and become stronger. We all have a responsibility to share our skills and insights with others, and to serve within our community and beyond it. **Important Black Hat Rules and Reminders:** 1\. To cast a circle is to create a place of protected and safe space\. Our circle is sacred\, please follow these simple guidelines\. 2\. If you are leaving or entering the circle\, you MUST wait for a visualized "doorway" to be opened for you by one of the HPs\. 3\. Please use the restroom before or after Circle\. 4\. Again\, it is not only rude\, but people moving in and out of the circle destroys the energy and effectiveness of the circle 5\. No texting and no chit\-chat when others have the floor\. 6\. We recognize that this is a place of healing\, and we all do our part to share with the intent of healing ourselves and the world\. We share stories not advice\, realizing that we are all works in progress\. **Important Reminders:** 1\. When leaving the circle\, please check your space for any items or trash that you might have left\. 2\. When using your phone as a flashlight\, please be considerate of those across the circle from you\, those bright lights can cause migraines\. Our circle is a magickal space for all of us. Thanks in advance for your help in making this a wondrous time for us all! Please remember doors are locked at 7 PM. Feel free to bring food to share for our Feast! Again, to make ***The Most Excellent Order of the Black Hat*** a safe and sacred event, we will now be charging an event fee of $15.00. Our Samhain event fee will be $25.00. Thank you for understanding. I look forward to seeing you all again!!! Goddess Bless! GrannyMoon
