English Pronunciation And Rhythm For High-Stakes Professionals In London
**Read this before you RSVP.**
This workshop is for a **very specific type of person.**
You are a **non-native professional in London.**
You can do your job in English.
You can join meetings, present slides, speak to clients.
But when it really matters - **presenting to senior leadership, negotiating with clients, interviewing for a promotion, speaking to investors** \- you know your English does not sound as **clear, confident or natural** as you want.
In your native language you feel **sharp, credible and relaxed.**
In English you sometimes feel **flatter, more tense and less convincing.**
You might notice that:
* You have to repeat yourself in important meetings.
* People interrupt you or talk over you.
* You slow down or overthink your words when you are under pressure.
* You worry that your **accent, pronunciation or rhythm** makes you sound **less senior** than your actual level.
If that sounds like you, **this workshop is for you.**
I'm Michael Roberts.
I grew up with a **speech impediment in English**, so I know what it is like to be judged on how you sound instead of what you mean.
After fixing it and learning multiple languages, I created the **British Accent Method** to help non-native professionals and pilots speak **clear, confident English in high-stakes situations.**
This is **not** a general English class.
It is not about more grammar or more vocabulary.
It is a **practical, focused session** where you will:
* **See** how your current pronunciation and rhythm affect your credibility when you speak English.
* **Hear** which sounds, weak forms and stress patterns make your English harder to follow in fast meetings and presentations.
* **Discover** how native speakers use English rhythm to sound natural and in control, and how you can copy that **without losing your identity.**
* **Practise real phrases from your professional life** with live feedback.
We'll look at situations like:
* Presenting to **senior leadership or a board.**
* Explaining complex ideas to **non-technical stakeholders.**
* Handling **difficult questions** in English.
* Introducing yourself and your work in a way that sounds **confident, not rehearsed.**
You will leave this workshop with:
* A **clear understanding** of what in your current pronunciation and rhythm is holding you back in high-stakes situations.
* **Two or three specific changes** you can start using immediately to sound clearer and more senior.
* A **simple plan** to keep improving after the event.
This workshop is for non-native professionals in London in fields such as **finance, consulting, tech, law, medicine, engineering, academia and entrepreneurship.**
If you already speak English well, but you know that **how you sound is not yet matching your level of expertise, this is for you.**
If you only want free general English practice or casual conversation, **this is not the right event.**
**Format:**
* Small group.
* Short teaching sections.
* Live examples and practice.
* Time for questions about your specific situations.
If you read this and thought **'this is exactly my problem'**, reserve your place and I will see you there.
LGBTQIA+ Writers' Group
Join us for our **monthly writers' group** to boost your creativity, find your focus and share your ideas in a safe space! ️
The session will start with some quick introductions, followed by some mini prompts to wake up our collective creativity, before jumping into our own individual projects during a short series of focused pomodoro blocks.
Whether you're working on your first short story, a work of non-fiction, drafting a report or crafting a script, all types of writers and writing are welcome!
Food, drinks and snacks will be available for you to buy on-site at the Camouflage Cafe inside the centre.

# **ABOUT THE NIGHT**
**Psychedelic Speed-friending**: sweet conversation, friend-making and (maybe?) finding your future lover! You can drop the small talk and ask the questions you REALLY want to ask. Taking inspiration from the [36 Questions to Intimacy](https://36questionsinlove.com/) and The School of Life's '100 Questions,' this evening gives you a menu of profound, intriguing, and spicy questions designed to inspire authenticity and meaningful connection with those around you. You’ll be guided through playful icebreakers and a series of 10-minute one-on-one conversations with different people throughout the evening, wrapping up with free-flowing socializing. You’ll leave here with a fresh perspective on connection, some fun stories, and maybe even the beginning of something special.
**Psychedelic Storytelling:** this is becoming a must for our monthly socials. There will be the opportunity for all of us to share our psychedelic stories - the weird, the tricky and the downright wonderful. This part of the evening will be open-mic style and we will have a sign-up sheet to add your name to the list of storytellers. Your stories should be no more than 5 minutes and there's no need to rehearse what to say or come particularly prepared - often the best stories are told off-the-cuff and from the heart!
**A Beautiful Psychedelic Community:** Get access to our wonderful community coalescing around all things fungi. Many people at our socials have become life-long friends. Most of our members come alone, this is a safe and welcoming space for everyone, no matter your age, sexuality, background, gender, ethnicity or nationality. Fungi know no boundaries, which is the ethos we bring to our socials.
**Delicious Food and Drink:** Indulge in the mouthwatering plant-based offerings at Love Shack, where creativity extends to the kitchen. Their menu features delicious, sustainably sourced dishes and drinks crafted to nourish the body and delight the senses. It’s the perfect accompaniment to an evening of artistic exploration.

London Climbing Session for Mental Health
**Start climbing into a positive space.**
We are back on Sunday 1st March for our London peer-to-peer support session. Facilitated by our lovely volunteers, we will be meeting in the cafe area of Rise Climbing by 12.30pm.
Sessions are 2 hours long and are open to everyone, whether you climb often or would like to try for the first time. Follow [this link](https://circularclimbingcollective.co.uk/booking/) and scroll down to our London sessions to book a space!
**What is Circular Climbing Collective?**
CCC is a climbing collective that focuses on mental health peer support. Our aim is to create non-judgemental spaces where climbers and non-climbers can connect, share and listen to better understand their mental health.
**What to expect**
Our sessions are led by 2 volunteer facilitators, Noa and Josh, and capped at 8 attendees. We ask everyone to attend the session from start to finish, 12:30pm - 2:30pm.
We start our sessions with a warm-up for the mind and for the body, where we introduce the space, our guidelines and ourselves. We then head out into the gym to climb, wander and talk. We have no expectations of participants to climb or share, just to be present with one another.
Some weeks are packed with conversation but maybe lack time on the wall or vice versa. Finally, we finish up with a warm down - stretching and checking in with ourselves and each other. We sometimes use this time to practice gratitude or reflect on our paths ahead.
**Who can attend**
Our sessions are open to anyone aged 18+, no matter where you are on your journey with mental health or how much climbing experience you have. Whether you've simply never climbed before and are looking to meet new people in an inclusive space, or are struggling with self-esteem, grief, loneliness, unemployment or anything else, you are welcome at Circular Climbing Collective.
**Booking**
To book a slot, follow [this link](https://circularclimbingcollective.co.uk/booking/) and scroll down to our London sessions. The price is just the same as a usual climb at Rise, with pre-paid members being free. The price includes free shoe hire! We also offer two fully funded entries at every session, these are trust based and open to all. We are still working out this system, so for now please contact the Rise team to access a free slot!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at circularclimbingcollective@gmail.com or DM us on instagram, [@circularclimbingcollective](https://www.instagram.com/circularclimbingcollective/)
All questions and requests welcome. We would love to support with any adjustments to ensure our sessions are inclusive for you.
Love, Team CCC ⭕
Private Substance Misuse Support Group
This group is a private substance misuse support group, for individuals who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship with drugs/alcohol. The group is facilitated by a trained and qualified Janus worker.
This group is designed to offer support, encouragement and to provide a forum, that allows you to make informed choices.
The objective of this group is to liberate you from the labels of addiction, dependency, illness sickness and "disease", replacing them with the more proactive terminology of choice, responsibility, self control and decision making.
Janus does not use the 12 step model. It uses the Janus approach to working with substance use called "The Resonance Factor" http://bit.ly/Resonance_blog
Hopefully you will find these groups informative, innovative and creative.
Before entering this group could you contact CHRISTOPHER ROBIN on 07515663621 to discuss the finer details regarding payment and room number in the venue etc.

**About Host:**
I was in a 15 year toxic, abusive relationship with my ex for all of my adult life. When the cycle finally came to a stop, and he moved on, I felt like my world had crashed aroundme. The hardest question to answer was "what do you like to do?" I realized that I didn't know who I was anymore because for so long my likes were his likes, and my favorite things were his favorite things. I had given up every part of me to be able to be what he needed me to be. Something as simple as trying pickles on my burger was a re-learning expierence for me. I struggled finding my own identity, lost on who I wanted to be now that I could be whoever I wanted. But more importantly I felt completely alone and abandonded. That's when I found this group and was suprised to find that there were other people out there going through similiar situations, and relieved to know that I wasn't the crazy one in the relationship. Attending these meetings and being able to openly share my experiences with this group has made navigating thru life so much easier. Regaining my self-confidence, being able to hold my head up, and learning how to take my power back has been one of the hardest, yet most rewarding, things I have ever done for myself. **YOU ARE NOT ALONE!**
**Rules:**
**1.** You must have attended a first timers meeting in order to be able to attend
**2.** Raise your hand if you having something you would like to add/share with the group
**3.** Please be respectful towards each person as they share. No cross-talk, rude comments, abusive or racial slurs, or invalidating responses *(this kind of behavior will get you dropped from the meeting)*
**4.** Camera must be on **AT ALL TIMES** throughout the entire meeting *(we don't necessarily need to see your face but your camera must be on. This is non-negotiable)* Also, if you are not the one sharing please make sure your microphone is muted
**5.** Please do not reach out and message anyone from the meeting afterwards on your own time (*if you would like to connect with anyone privately please message me first and I will reach out to the person on your behalf*)
**6.** Be supportive to everyone in the group and be sympathetic to the fact that most people are in different stages of their healing process than you might be, and that's ok
**\~ZOOM links will be sent via email (to the email you signed up with) or through your messages on MeetUp the morning of!\~**

Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games!
The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
