DDD by Night June- Hybrid event
DDD by Night June- Hybrid event
It's DDD but \***lightning**\*. The evening will be a hybrid event hosted by the DDD Melbourne crew and consist of short & sharp presentations of fifteen minutes in length on a dev related subject. Venue space is limited, we cannot accommodate more than **130 people**. First come first served! **ONLINE ATTENDANCE** You can join us online, we'll aim to get the call started somewhere around 6pm before we have our introductions and first speaker. Remote audience link --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=octKT8vL60E You can ask questions of our speakers via Slido. We'll try to ask your questions as they come through on Slido, but we may not get to all of them. **TALKS** **Rupesh, Quality Engineer Practice Lead at Fabric Group:** Validating AI Systems in a Probabilistic World Traditional software testing assumes deterministic behavior—the same input produces the same output every time. Modern AI systems, particularly LLMs and agentic workflows, behave differently. Responses can vary based on context, prompts, model state, and external dependencies, making conventional testing approaches insufficient. This presentation explores how organisations can establish confidence, quality, and governance for non-deterministic systems through new testing methodologies, evaluation frameworks, and observability practices. It will cover emerging tooling such as DeepEval and Botium, along with strategies for measuring accuracy, relevance, safety, hallucination risk, and user experience in AI-driven applications. **Leah Garrett** My Screen Moves Now: Notes From a Web Dev Building Robot UI I went from building web apps to building the face of a robot. In this talk I'll cover what changes when your UI has a body, from testing things you can't see in a browser to designing for a screen that won't stay still, and how AI tooling helped me get up to speed. **Gordon Chen** Building a Modern eCommerce Marketplace with AI As AI capabilities advance, what role is left for developers, and what skills should we prioritise? Drawing on over 20 years of experience in software engineering and data engineering, Gordon shares his thoughts from building a modern eCommerce marketplace with AI, tackling the shift toward spec-driven development and where human elements remain critical. **@tensorfish** "Ok claude, real-time transit map of melbourne. Make no mistakes." This talk walks through building MykiMap: a live, GPU-accelerated map of every tram, train, and bus moving across Melbourne’s transit network. Along the way, we’ll get into the agentic coding workflow: what it’s genuinely productive for, and what’s just hype. **CODE OF CONDUCT** All DDD events are subject to the DDD Code of Conduct available at [https://www.dddmelbourne.com/code-of-conduct/](https://www.dddmelbourne.com/code-of-conduct/) **VENUE AND FOOD SPONSOR** [Fabric Group](https://www.fabricgroup.com.au/) **FUTURE EVENTS** Are you interested in speaking at a future DDD by Night? That's awesome, we'd love to have you! We take speakers of all experience levels and offer training too. [Fill out this form](https://forms.office.com/r/12c0CvLwQk) and we'll be in touch. **FEEDBACK** Feedback, whether it's good or constructive, helps us grow and improve these events and so we'd love for you to fill out the form here --> [https://forms.office.com/r/MB8WGKv9Bi](https://forms.office.com/r/MB8WGKv9Bi)

Ballan to Geelong via Meredith & Steiglitz (~87km)
Ballan to Geelong via Meredith & Steiglitz (~87km)
**Ride**: A weekday ride we last did in Sept '24 that should have good tailwinds for much of it. We catch the Southern Cross **9:16 Wendouree** Vline train arriving **Ballan 10:20** then cycle 36km to **Meredith** for lunch and 50km after lunch, via historic gold mining town of **Steiglitz,** to **Geelong** and probably arriving mid afternoon for another Vline trip back to Melbourne. Geelong trains will be **20** minutes apart then. *More information on Steiglitz :* *[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steiglitz,_Victoria](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steiglitz,_Victoria)* *The 5:20 pm finish time assumes we get the 4:15 train from Geelong but it could be the 4:35 (arrives SC 5:40)* If people wish, we can do some extra kms in Geelong to bring our total up to 100km. Or go for coffee instead. Both Vline morning and afternoon train journeys take only 1 hour, so not a long train trip. **Map, Profile and GPX files**: [https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40226400](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40226400) \* \* Actual route may vary on the day **Speed**: \~30 kmh on flat ground. Surface is all sealed and we keep off the major roads on minor ones. Check your bike's mechanical condition including tyres beforehand, please. Travel light as there are some climbs on this route. **Bring**: Spare tube(s), tools, jacket, Myki, water, energy snacks/gels, phone with my number (cellular coverage not guaranteed) & money/card for emergencies. Meredith is the only town along the way on this ride, btw. Please fit and use a bright flashing tail-light. Coloured jersey / jacket advisable for safety, ie, no black tops, please. Bondage Photography Demonstration
**The event has been canceled.** *Note: this is a demonstration event only, you **will not** shoot you own images. However, if you bring your camera we can test it for compatibility with the studio lights.* Bondage elements can add an extra layer of emotion and artistry to your images. Sample images on the internet are however dominated by BDSM style shots that are often sexualized and emphasize the model being in distress. In this demonstration Rachel and I show ways to use bondage elements in an artistic way. We explore the types of accessories that work best in artistic images and the best way to photograph them. Our model is Rachel Adams, an internationally known fetish model with many years of experience in this genre.

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for June is "Roadtrip" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
