Helping animals at scale — an evening with The Humane League 🌍🐓🍕
Most of us, irrespective of diet, culture, or political affiliation, say that we care about how animals are treated and consider animal cruelty to be unacceptable. Many of us would like to contribute, in whatever ways seem feasible, to improving farmed animals' living conditions and alleviating some of their suffering. This event is about making it easier to help, through knowledge and shared understanding. 🌱
**Why is this importan**t?: Cruel but standard farming practises such as confinement cages and routine mutilations practices continue to affect hundreds of billions of sentient animals every year. The number of animals killed each year is more than the total number of humans who have *ever existed*. Many philosophers, ethicists, and researchers regard the degree and scale of the caused suffering as one of the most serious and neglected moral problems of our time.
This event, which combines a structured lecture 🎙️ with a collaborative discussion 💬, is an opportunity to look more closely at some proven, effective strategies to address the problem. It will be presented by **The Humane League's** Research Lead **Giovanni Fabris** and Principal Strategist **Leo le Ster,** who will offer an inside look at how animal welfare campaigns are designed and what makes them succeed.
**About The Humane League** 🌍: The Humane League is one of the most effective animal welfare organisations in the world, working to end the abuse of animals raised for food through corporate campaigns and policy change. Thanks to their work and that of their allies, cage-free hen production in the US rose from around 3% to nearly 46% over 15 years.
**Helping animals beyond individual choices:** Individuals can help animals in many ways — changing their diets, donating to impactful organisations, or volunteering. Being vegan is one of the most direct ways to withdraw personal support from systems that cause animal suffering. But some of the highest-impact opportunities lie in shifting institutions and corporate policies — work that most people are entirely unaware of, and that this evening will shed some light on 💡.
**Logistics** 📍: We meet directly at ETH Zurich HG E41 on Tuesday, 28 April, at 6.15 p.m. (please be on time!). After the talk, there will be a chance to discuss and socialize over vegan pizza. 🍕
**You don't have to be vegan to join:** As always, this event is ***open*** to everyone — and ***relevant*** to everyone. Whether you are fully vegan or nowhere near it, there are plenty of meaningful ways to contribute to this cause, and this evening is a good place to start figuring out what that might look like for you. 🌱
Kon-Tiki Comedy Tuesday
**Kon-Tiki Comedy Tuesday!**
Zurich's longest standing weekly Comedy Night : English Standup at Kon-Tiki Bar since 2018!
**Tickets :** [https://shorturl.at/fgjmM](https://shorturl.at/fgjmM)
Kon-Tiki Comedy has long become a staple of Tuesday Nights in Zurich! Veterans, regulars, amateurs & newbies from all around the world show up to make people laugh. This Comedy Open Mic is regularly Hosted by Ahmet Bilge.
Kon-Tiki Comedy is the place for English Standup in central Zurich. Come join & laugh with us!
**Early Show starts at 19:30 pm // Late Show starts at 21:30 pm**
**Frequently Asked Questions:**
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
**Q: Is the show in English?**
A: YES. Kon-Tiki Comedy is always in English.
**Q: What's the difference of a Comedy Open Mic from a regular Comedy Show?**
A: Anybody who wants can go on stage at a Comedy Open Mic. A bunch of Comedians will be there, but they will be trying out jokes, because this is how Comedians find out if something is funny or not, so you get to be there at the birthplace of jokes. Often Comedy Open Mics are more casual & but also funny as well!
**Q: Can I perform Comedy also?**
A: Yes of course! Just contact theamericanstandupshow@gmail.com if you're interested in performing. Or directly go to the event page on facebook & write "SPOT" inside the event discussion. You'll be confirmed later & will get 5minutes to start off with. Anybody can sign up!
**Q: What about these seats?**
A : We have enough seats for everyone but the first come first served rule applies! Especially since Kon-Tiki Comedy is popular, often it is packed inside, so come early for good seats. What's early? Anything before 19:00 & you will have your seat of choice.
**Q : What about the late show?**
Depending on the turnout a late show is also available most of the time, please check the ticket page to see if there is a late show option. Basically if you can buy tickets to the late show, it's happening, if it's not an option for a ticket it's not! Both shows might be consolidated into one if there's not enough ticket sold for the late show. In this case you will recieve an e-mail telling you so.
**Q : Can I refund my ticket?**
There are no refunds allowed because it becomes too much work for a simple Comedy Open Mic, so only buy your ticket if you know you're for sure going to be able to make it. But if for some reason you can't make it, you are welcome to use your ticket for any future Kon-Tiki Comedy Shows. Just write an e-mail to exchange.
**Q : Can I buy tickets at the door?**
No please don't. Technically we can but it complicates everything, so just buy them online. Just to persuade you NOT to ask to buy at the door: Tickets at the door are 15.-CHF. Please buy online : )
**Q: Will it be funny?**
A : You betcha. You can't do a regular show since 2018 & not be funny.
**Any other questions:**
Email: theamericanstandupshow@gmail.com with the title "Kon-Tiki Comedy"
But if it's any of the questions covered by the FAQ above, I will still answer it, *but first I will insult you.*
**Legal Disclaimer:** Comedians may film their sets as well as the audience during the comedy show. By buying a ticket you consent to being filmed in this public space. If you ever have a problem with any clip published online you are very welcome to contact us & ask to have it removed, we are happy to accomodate you. Thank you for your understanding.

Chinese Characters Workshop
The limits of our language are the limits of our world, because language is the filtering prism through which we separate ourselves from raw reality. To expand our perception, we must dismantle the boundaries of our linguistic framework. **Even if you don't plan to learn Chinese, this workshop will bring value to you by teaching you to look at things from a completely different perspective and facilitating self-development.** It is a linguo-philosophical journey into the world of Chinese characters, infused with the visual aesthetics and meditative quality of calligraphy, that has a practical coaching implication.
**You will learn:**
\* how to read, write, and type Chinese characters.
\* how to look at things from a fundamentally different perspective
— one that moves beyond habitual linear logic and toward non-verbal, symbolic thinking and pure thought.
This live workshop is a part of a broader recorded course, which you can get access to in case you want to deepen your knowledge of the topic even further.
Badminton Wednesday 🏸
Welcome to the Winterthur Badminton Meetup! 🏸👊😉🍻
We’re an international group created for badminton fans in and around Winterthur. Open to Expats and Swiss folks who want to train and socialise with fellow ‘badmintonists’. Or perhaps you’d like to learn the sport and meet new people? Whether doing it for fun or fitness, the idea is to enjoy and have a great (kickass) midweek. And everyone is welcome to join us for a postgame drink or two! See yah! 😊
Important: We ask everyone to respect others who wish to play. That means dropping out if you won’t make it to the game by updating your RSVP.
Keep in mind:
RSVPs close at 21:00 two days before the event to give others enough time to plan. Anyone on the RSVP list who did not show up at the event is considered a "no-show".
No-shows will still have to pay the shared cost of the court and shuttles. We keep track of no-shows and deprioritise them in future games.
Please try your best to pay on the same day by Twint or in cash. With Twint, write in the comment the date and your name for reference.
Cost will be around 12-20 CHF, depending on the amount of players joining and if we have to rent 1 or 2 courts.
Note: If it's your first time joining, please send me a message for more details and to confirm your spot in the game. Otherwise, regular players will be given priority.
Cheers,
Elias

✒️Ink & Drink: a Star is born ⭐️
Somewhere, in a hospital or a bedroom or a room you've never seen, you arrived. Outside, the world had no idea. The newspaper was already printed. The radio played on. History moved at its usual pace — completely indifferent to you.
🎂 But what if it wasn't? What if the world that day was, somehow, the world that made you?
✨ ✨ ✨
🔍 🥂Join us for a historic Ink & Drink session, hosted by a very special guest, Deji. We will share a drink and start with a simple act of curiosity: Google your birth date, day, month, and year.
Find out exactly what was happening in the world on the day you arrived — who else was born, what was being celebrated, what was falling apart or being built.
Choose one event that really jumps out at you. Then, write.
• Retell the story of your birth with this event in mind. Imagine the newspaper headlines that morning — did your mother read the paper? What was on her mind?
• What conversations were happening in the room around you? What did the world smell like, sound like, feel like — on that very specific day?
No prior writing experience is needed. Optional prompts will guide you, or you can follow your own instinct wherever it leads. Sharing at the end is always optional.
✒️ Ink & Drink is a creative writing evening in English — a relaxed, social gathering around words, ideas, and a shared drink.
✨ ✨ ✨
☕️ The event is free — please plan to order at least one drink on site as a gesture of respect toward the Moudi restaurant hosting us.
🍲🧆For those who wish, you're warmly invited to stay afterward for a Lebanese dinner — a lovely way to continue conversations and grow a creative community together.
Looking forward to rewriting history together! ✍️✨
⌚️When: Wednesday, April 29 | 6:45 PM - 8:30 PM
📍 Location: Bei Moudi am Kunsthaus (restaurant/bar)
