Sharing Vienna<-R's "Travel Paths: Animal movement algorithms" event
Sharing Vienna<-R's "Travel Paths: Animal movement algorithms" event
We would like to share the upcoming event from the [Vienna<-R](https://www.meetup.com/viennar/) meetup group: [Travel Paths: Animal movement algorithms](https://www.meetup.com/viennar/events/314973700/?eventOrigin=group_upcoming_events), where Katrina Brock from Max Planck Society presents an R package for analyzing animal movement data and shares how R can be put to work in animal behaviour research. **Details**: The behavior ecology literature offers a rich library of approaches for finding patterns in animal movement data. While many of the biologists developing these algorithms publish their code, it is rarely optimized for reuse. Even well-designed packages with similar workflows have different interfaces that potential users need to learn one by one. By wrapping these algorithms in a standardized interface, the “Travel Paths” framework reduces researcher toil. Instead of digging through scripts and learning disparate conventions, they can run many methods with just a few functions. The framework is composed of two packages: the trackframe package provides a flexible and interoperable format for input data while the travelpaths package, taking inspiration from parsnip, offers the interface for movement models. In this talk, we’ll discuss how we designed this framework and how it can be leveraged to enable even novice R users to apply a variety of methods to their animal movement data.

Neurodivergent Parents of Vienna - Meetup
**You’re neurodivergent? A parent? In Vienna?** Parenting can be a lot — and even more so when your brain works a little differently. But you don’t have to be alone with this. Don’t miss the upcoming meetup for neurodivergent parents — kids play, adults connect. Gentle space, real talk, no pressure 🌱 📍 Join us in Stadtpark Your host: Jennifer M.S. Granic, a mother of two — 14 and 4-year-old — kids and an educator both freelance and for the Bildungsdirektion Wien. **✨ What to expect:** * A relaxed, peer-led hangout — not a workshop, not a therapy session. * Conversations that ebb and flow naturally, shaped by whoever’s present. * A child-friendly setting that still centers adult connection. * Space to be quiet or chatty, tired or upbeat — all modes welcome. * English-speaking, but language fluency isn’t a requirement. Deutsch reden wir sicher auch. * Bring a blanket and some snacks, and whatever makes you feel comfortable. Let’s make space for each other — and for ourselves. 🌿 ℹ️ **ALL INFO: PLEASE READ THE GROUP DESCRIPTION** ℹ️ See you soon!

Menschen lesen lernen: Secret Identity Spiele
Menschen lesen lernen: Secret Identity Spiele
### Was sind Social Deduction Games? \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- What could be more fascinating than decoding human psychology and learning how to read people? Recognizing what a look, a hesitation, or a subtle shift in someone's voice means is a true superpower. And the best part: we learn fastest and most intensely when we are having real fun—right in the middle of a game, laughing and experimenting together! That is exactly what this board game round is all about! The main focus here is on Secret Identity & Social Deduction Games. We are setting up a dedicated table for Social Deduction Games at the public board game night in the Pauluskirche. The board game night itself is free of charge. Since spots at our gaming table are limited, I have to limit the capacity for this event. **What are Social Deduction Games?** In these games, everyone is assigned a secret identity. The group is divided: most play honestly, but a select few are secret saboteurs (as seen in classics like Werewolves). The goal? To find out who is telling the truth and who is lying through discussions, bluffing, targeted questioning, and observing body language. In addition, we might also bring a few standard deduction games to the table, which focus on razor-sharp logic, combining clues, and solving puzzles rather than reading people. **What to expect:** Pure practice instead of dry theory: No complicated rulebooks to study beforehand—all games will be explained directly and simply on-site. Playful self-discovery: Test your intuition, sharpen your people skills, and experiment with your own power of persuasion. Tons of fun: Experience a dynamic evening full of thrills, twists, and great conversations. Whether you are a master bluffer or an absolute beginner—come by, play along, and learn the art of reading people from a whole new perspective!

In this workshop, we move from the inner experience of anger to the relational field, exploring how empathy, active listening, and mindful communication support conflict transformation and nervous system co-regulation. Drawing from neuroscience, mindfulness, psychology, and non-violent communication (NVC), we learn how conflict can become an opportunity for understanding, connection, and shared humanity. Ideal for anyone wanting to navigate anger, stress, and conflict with more awareness, emotional intelligence, and compassion - in daily life, relationships, and communication. Please bring paper and a pen. Cash donation is appreciated. One third of the collected donations will be shared with the café, supporting this community space. Das anarchische Gehirn – Vortrag über Nicht-Alltägliche Bewusstseinszustände
Das anarchische Gehirn – Vortrag über Nicht-Alltägliche Bewusstseinszustände
(This talk will be held in German) Was haben Holotropes Atmen, Zen-Meditation, Isolationstanks und Meisterpflanzen gemeinsam? [MOVIE DESCRIPTION BELOW] *A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom.* \~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~ **PLEASE SEE GROUP BIO FOR FULL FAQ. Meetup only allows a certain amount of characters when posting events from a mobile device and out FAQ is longer than that limit. A condensed version is posted below here** \~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~ First-time attendees: below are some Frequently Asked Questions about events for your consideration: * **What is involved in this type of event? (_Group Watch & Socialize Event)** * We typically arrive before the movie, maybe chat and catch up with folks a bit, watch the movie in the theater, then afterwards have a more extended chat with everyone who saw the movie. * **Do I have to chat before the movie?** * Nope! Totally understandable if you'd rather just watch first so you can have something in common to discuss afterwards. * **Will people approach me/talk to me?** * Not a guarantee as it depends on who is hosting, but a good host or other group members will try to at least say hi to members after the movie and may make an effort to include newer faces in the conversation in some way. Please feel free to jump into the conversation as you feel comfortable and understand this is done with good intent :) We are happy to have you! * **How will I know who is the host or where people are gathering to talk about the movie?** * This depends on each host, but good practice is for the host to indicate a notable item of clothing they are wearing for other members to look out for. But generally we gather in a loose circle in the theater lobby or outside the theater to talk, so if you recognize the host or other group members - that's the spot we've decided on! Just kind of depends on the feel of the group where we gather. * **What is with posting the seat numbers?** * A good practice we've found is to post our seat numbers when we have ordered tickets for a movie. This is just another way for members of our group to find each other as it might not be immediately obvious who is here as part of the group event: some events are at public movie theaters, after all. You are not by any means obligated to post your seat number if you do not feel comfortable doing so, just something we've found that works nicely for encouraging some socialization. * **Will there be food?** * General guideline: if the movie starts at 7ish pm or later, you might wanna have dinner first or plan on buying movie snacks. Restaurant kitchens tend to close around 9-10pm. We sometimes do go to restaurants after movies as a group, but moreso bars whose kitchens may or may not be open. Plus, kind of bad manners for a group to descend upon a bar when the kitchen is closing is 10 minutes lol. Bars are just convenient social places, there is zero pressure to drink but there just aren't many places open late when we may leave movies. There is potential to order or provide food for group events, but it should not be expected unless stated in the event description. * **How do I stay in contact with the group after the movie?** * We have another app we use for discussion because Meetup is somewhat cumbersome to use for casual conversation. The app we use is called Discord. The link is posted below: * Link: https://discord.gg/4r7QxzmSvH * [Place link here] \~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~ * **Can I create events as a member?** * Initially, no but this group is open to members suggesting events or becoming part of the Event Organizers over time. We don't want to open the opportunity for everybody initially to create events because that kind of role has some responsibility towards it. There are certain permissions granted to that role that not every member should have. However, if a member has a proven track record of treating every group member with due respect, and a willingness to plan events: they can become and Event Organizer and create their own events. Please reach out to leadership if this sounds like something that would interest you. * **Can I donate to the group?** * Absolutely! See group bio
