Blood on the clock tower @ Aloft Schuman
Blood on the clock tower @ Aloft Schuman
**Please update your attendance if you can not join as this game as we need to know the exact number of players.** The script will be decided on the day. Here are a few helpful links for beginners: * [How to play video](https://youtu.be/M-aZP47Nm9g) * [Gameplay video by Good Time Society](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-aZP47Nm9g) * [Characters description](https://wiki.bloodontheclocktower.com/Trouble_Brewing) Blood on the Clocktower is a game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception for five-to-twenty courageous players and one devious storyteller. A social game played in person, seated in a circle, each player receives either a ‘good’ or ‘evil’ token with their unique character on it. Good players share information to solve the mystery whilst evil players lie about who they are and what they know. The good team wins if they can piece together their knowledge, trust each other, and execute the demon. The evil team wins if the demon can sow distrust, evade detection, and wipe out the village.

Friday coffee morning
Friday coffee morning
**International House Leuven** organizes a coffee morning for those of you who like to chat and meet some friendly (new) faces. It's also a good place to ask questions, get answers and find out about what’s happening in Leuven. Our coffee morning is what you make it. So pop in and out whenever you like, see who is there, and say hi! We meet **every two weeks on Friday morning**, usually at the International House Leuven itself although we tour coffee houses occasionally as well. More on that below. Who's "we"? Well it varies a bit, but our regular hosts are IHL staff member, Anna, or Evelyne, one of the IHL volunteers. Generally we're anything between 5 to 20 participants, a nice mix of regulars and new folks. And we have room for more! **The practicalities**: * the coffee morning goes **from 10:30 until noon**. Feel free to pop in and out at any point, no need to stay the entire time if that doesn't suit your own timing * the location of the event will always be up to date on the Meetup event page. * ask the event volunteer to add you to the Whatsapp group so you can keep up to date with venue changes and other last minute things. * walk-ins are very welcome too! Hope to see you at the Friday coffee morning! PS: If you're keen to host one of the coffee mornings with us, possibly at another time of the week, let us know!

🌙 Twilight Walk in Parc de Woluwe (🏮Red Torch/Headlamp Required🏮)
_IMPORTANT: To RSVP you will also need to register as a member [here.](https://forms.gle/PsmYJ3vQKocXQCAY6)_ **🏮 Please bring a red-light headlamp or torch (Decathlon has them).** Red mode is required to minimize light pollution, respect wildlife, and keep the peaceful night-walk atmosphere. As winter approaches and daylight fades earlier, we’ll take advantage of the calm, blue-hour mood for a gentle **late-afternoon walk through Parc de Woluwe** - one of Brussels’ most elegant urban parks. We’ll follow an easy loop along the lakes and the Woluwe River, enjoying that unique winter serenity: silhouettes of trees against the sky, reflections on the water, and the quiet shift from day to night. After the walk, we’ll warm up together with a drink at **Brasserie des Étangs Mellaerts**, our meeting and parking point. ### **🕯️ A bit of history, softly told at dusk** Created during the **Belle Époque** (1896–1898) as part of King Leopold II’s urban vision, the park was designed as a landscaped corridor linking Brussels to Tervuren. The gentle river, the chain of lakes, and the elegant avenues still echo that era’s idea of blending beauty, nature, and modern city life. ### **🕓 Plan** * Meet at **Brasserie des Étangs Mellaerts**, Bd du Souverain 275, 1150 Woluwe-Saint-Pierre * **Parking** available on site * Easy access via **Tram 39/44** from Montgomery or **Tram 8** from Roodebeek - get off at *Musée du Tram* * We start and end the walk at the ClubHouse, followed by warm drinks together ☕ ### **🌿 Expect** 🍁 Winter foliage, calm lakes, and soft evening light 🦆 Ducks, herons, maybe even a fox if we’re lucky ✨ A cozy, slightly scout-like night walk with red headlamps 🐕 Gentle pace - dogs welcome ### **💶 Symbolic Contribution** This recurring walk is **free**. Saturday Morning Coffee - 10:00 @MIR Concept Coffee Store
Saturday Morning Coffee - 10:00 @MIR Concept Coffee Store
Hi everyone, This coffee morning event is @MIR Concept Coffee Store! Saturday, 31 January 2026, from 10:00 - 13:00. MIR opened its doors about 3 years ago, right off Place Jourdan. Doriana, the owner, is a super nice host, and is excited to have our group as her café. The café is very beautiful and has many yummy food options. The Instagram channel: https://www.instagram.com/mirconceptstore/ **The address is:** MIR Concept Coffee Store Rue Gray 4A 1040 Etterbeek *** 1. The **prime time** of the event is **10:30 - 12:30**. That's when most people will be there. 2. When you enter the gallery, it's either on the right-hand side or left-hand side of its hallway, depending which entrance you take. 3. If you intend **to join past 12:00** (high noon), then there is no need to register. Just come and join! 4. **DON'T forget to cancel** if you can't join! 5. **Please, be respectful towards each other during the event. (And after ;))** **As always, feel free to follow us on INSTAGRAM!** [https://instagram.com/weekendmorningcoffee?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==](https://instagram.com/weekendmorningcoffee?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==) **THE STRUCTURE of THE EVENT:** * I will post the event on Saturday/Sunday evening for the following Saturday. * I send out a reminder to everyone on Friday. * There is sometimes a waiting list. * In case RSVP is closed (once there are 10-15 people on the waiting list), I might reopen it on Friday, depending on the number of cancellations in the meantime. * **For everyone on the waiting,** please check your status and messages on Friday evening the latest. I message everyone on the waiting list on Friday. * **Please, move to "not going" AS SOON AS you know that you can't come anymore, that includes everyone who is on the waiting list.** **IMPORTANT:** * **Please, be respectful towards each other during the event. (And after ;))** * When you register yourself, be careful not to register accidentally a +1 guest (unless you bring a guest). It happens very often. * If you have any questions then, message me. *** **A MESSAGE FOR NEWCOMERS:** *In the three years of hosting this coffee group, I have met many people who struggle with anxieties when coming to an event for the first time. Sometimes, it took them more than one attempt before being able to join.* *Occasionally, people reach out to me before the event, and I have always been grateful for that as it offers the opportunity to communicate with each other and to find the best and most gentle way for that person to join the group.* *I would like to encourage everyone who struggles with this to contact me before. It would really be too bad if you can't join us, as it mostly gets better the second or third time you come.* *In addition to that, if you arrive and notice any signs of nervousness or fear, you can always let me know right then.* **THANK YOU AND SEE YOU ALL ON Saturday!**
Meaninglessness
Meaninglessness
Have you had experiences in your life that ended up leaving you with a sense of meaninglessness? This session will be an opportunity to unpack and explore many various ways in which 'meaninglessness' can occur in our lives, including the very idea of 'the meaninglessness of life itself'. But first of all, why frame this session's topic in the negative? Why not 'meaning' or 'meaningfulness'? There might be several reasons, including: 1.) 'Meaninglessness of life' seems to have become a more-important-than-ever issue in our contemporary times, and sociological, psychological and cultural problems as such are also philosophical problems 2.) Our commonly-held view that meaninglessness is something negative can nevertheless be challenged 3.) The idea that in order to understand meaninglessness we should first understand meaning and meaningfulness can be countered with the proposition that by first exploring meaninglessness, we might then have a better chance at understanding what meaningfulness can be. We can arguably identify two broad orders or levels of meaninglessness. One, when we are unable to detect patterns in a situation (such as recurrences, cause and effect, or relationships between sign/symbol and meaning) a situation which we might then describe as chaotic, random, arbitrary, or - in the case of symbol to meaning - nonsense or gibberish. The second order would be when everything does make sense, but we're still left with the question, "So what! What does all of this mean?" We can consider this second level of meaninglessness as 'meta-meaninglessness', or 'existential meaninglessness'. The first order of meaninglessness tends to leave us with a "What?" question, the second with a "Why?" Some (hopefully meaningful!) key questions: • Is any 'sense of meaninglessness'** that might sometimes overwhelm us basically caused by our lack of understanding - is meaninglessness essentially an *epistemological* problem? Culturally-speaking, is humankind currently in a transition period in which religion might no longer sufficiently give us the meaning we need, yet science still has not been able to provide us with ultimate answers? • Is meaninglessness fundamentally a *teleological* problem: "My life has no purpose"? "Life, the universe, even the phenomenon of existence itself, have no purpose"? • Is meaninglessness ultimately a *value* problem: "Life is worthless, life is not worth living"? "What good are humans anyway for the planet"? • Is meaninglessness an *ontological* problem: "No particular thing lasts forever, everything is transitory and everyone and everything will ultimately be totally forgotten" (cf. our theme Amnesia in September 2022)? • Is meaninglessness an inevitable property/consequence of disorder (note this ontological irony!), what we may call a *syntactical* problem: "My life has become so chaotic and unstructured to the point of meaninglessness"? • Do feelings of meaninglessness arise out of our experiences of suffering, cruelty, injustice and indifference - an *ethical* problem: "Life is nothing but unfairness, struggle and suffering..."? How are suffering and meaninglessness related? How are unfairness and meaninglessness related? How are futility and meaninglessness related? How are indifference and meaninglessness related? How can we all - individually and collectively - turn meaninglessness into sources of meaning in our lives? ** Is the commonly-used expression "sense of meaninglessness" an oxymoron? Is this expression moreover a sign that we instinctively try to derive meaning even out of meaninglessness? Illustration: "Atlas-turned-Sisyphus", concept by Alan Woo, executed by ChatGPT
The Armadillo’s Surprise: the poetry and life of Elizabeth Bishop
The Armadillo’s Surprise: the poetry and life of Elizabeth Bishop
[Sign-up and payment obligatory via website](https://www.wordcraft-collective.eu/courses/the-armadillo%E2%80%99s-surprise%3A-the-poetry-and-life-of-elizabeth-bishop). In this workshop, we will delve into the life of this enigmatic poet and through her poem, The Armadillo, examine how she used pace, rhyme and surprise to build to a climax. Using different prompts, participants will be invited to learn from this great poet and choose one or more of these tools to start on the creation of their own poem in the workshop. Elizabeth Bishop has been described as one of America’s most important poets. A pioneer of confessional poetry, her poems describe the physical world in detail. While others find her poems convey emotions of loss, disconnection and grief, Bishop would herself refute this more in depth analysis, saying she only wrote about what she saw. No experience of writing poetry or knowledge about Elizabeth Bishop is needed prior to the workshop. You are invited to discover her life and words together, or bring your own knowledge to the group if you have studied her previously.

UNO #468
UNO #468
Let's continue the tradition and play UNO, everybody is welcome :) If you're on the waitlist please check your messages, especially on Sunday. If people drop off last minute I tend to message people on the waitlist to see who can come. We'll be playing at the lobby of Radisson RED, Brussels. The address of the hotel is: Rue d'Idalie 35, 1050 Bruxelles My number is 0471 45 55 02. Feel free to call if you cannot solve a physics question, cannot find the place or simply need a hug. I have quickly written a set of rules on how we play. It is assumed that the reader has a basic concept of the game. *** Setup: * Each player starts with 6 or 7 cards each (depending on total number of players) * A card is shown in play in the middle of everyone, this is known as the top card. Goal: * The goal of the game for each player is to get rid of all cards in your hand Rules: * Whenever you go from two cards to one card, you have to say "UNO". * Each player takes his turn one by one, initially going in the clock-wise direction * A card may be played if it matches the same colour or same number or same type as the top card in play * The two black cards (Draw 4 and Wild) can be played regardless of the top card in play. * Interruption rule: You may interrupt the general flow of the game (clockwise or counter-clockwise) if you have the EXACT same card as the top card in play. If you manage to play the card prior to the person whose turn it's supposed to be, then the game continues on from you in the same direction it was previously. (Unless the reverse card was interrupted, then the direction changes). * Draw2 or Draw4 cards can be played in accordance to the interruption rule. The following person after the interrupt has to take the accumulated number of cards. If however, cards have already been drawn AND seen by the person who was supposed to take the cards, then only the remainder of cards has to be drawn. * Once someone has no cards remaining in his hand, play stops and we start counting points. Points: * Number cards have the face value as the number of points. i.e. number 6 is worth 6 points, number 0 is worth 0 points, number 4 is worth 4 points. * Skip, reverse and Draw2 are worth 20 points each * Wild and draw4 are worth 50 points each
NEW TIME-- 6 PM!! Deep Conversation-- Question Chosen in Session
NEW TIME-- 6 PM!! Deep Conversation-- Question Chosen in Session
Welcome to our weekly event in the upstairs room of The Sister Café, rue Chair et Pain 3, one block from the Grand Place. Please get there early enough to order your drink at the bar first. Thank you! After introductions we will collect questions from the group participants, choose one by voting then discuss it for an hour. Then most of us stay for drinks and bizarre conversations. Past questions have been wide and not confined to academic philosophy: What is a genuine friend? Is social media turning us into emotional zombies? Do we lose some of the experience of things by defining them? Are we driven by sex? Is loneliness a personal failure? Is morality relative? **Crucially, be kind and respectful and generous** in your disagreements; remember how much you personally enjoy someone else proving you wrong before celebrating your cutting counterexamples.

What's up Friends! 👋
Ready for some bouldering fun? Boulder-what? 🤔 It’s climbing (FR: escalade, le bloc) up to 4.5m high without ropes—and in my case, without much hope! 😂✨ It’s a super fun indoor activity, but be warned: it does require a certain level of physical fitness and/or skill. Most importantly, though, it requires awesome company—which we’ve got! 😎

Feel free to start earlier or later—just drop me a message or write in the group chat so we can meet up. 💪 Stay & climb as long as you want - venue closes at midnight! 🥤 Recharge: If you’ve had enough climbing for the day (we usually do this after 2 hours of climbing), we may head back to the cafeteria (or to the rooftop if it's sunny🌤️) for snacks, drinks & games. Cafeteria closes at 22:00. Where: 📍Arkose: (Brussels Canal) Rue Willy de Bruyn Straat 52, 1000 Bruxelles, Belgique 🔗 https://arkose.com/

Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program: Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there! Food and drinks will be provided at the event.
