It takes about 5 minutes on Tram 75 from Flinders St Station, or 15 minute walk. Car parking around Fitzroy Gardens on Sundays now is $2 per hour with a 4 hour limit, Some parking is limited to 1 hour even on Sunday. Suitable for fatter-tyred gravel bikes or XC MTB etc. Riders with reasonable hill-riding fitness and off-road experience. Scenic hills, back-roads and tracks around Hurstbridge, Panton Hill, Sugarloaf Reservoir, and Kangaroo Ground. 7:59 AM Hurstbridge train departs FLINDERS STREET, arrives DIAMOND CREEK at 9:09 am. Alternatively, park car between McDonalds and the train station, and meet in Maccas 9:10 for pre-ride fuel. Ride DEPARTS at 9:30 AM. (If you are running late, miss the train, or want to shorten the ride by 7kms, you could catch the later 8:39 train and meet us enroute in Hurstbridge at 10:00am). There are two general stores enroute (@ 23 & 45 km), so no need to carry too much food. Carry at least two small bidons worth of water. Bikes MUST be off-road worthy, and you must carry your own tools and spares for any basic trailside repairs, especially tubes, pump, CO2 inflators etc. Finish around 4:30 pm back in Diamond Creek for post-ride refreshments at the Golden Hills Brewery, opposite the train station.
