Join me for a loop hike starting in Old Town Fairfax through Belle's Bird Sanctuary, Van Dyck Park and Daniels Run Park along Accotink Creek. We'll pass colorful murals and historical sites including Town Hall, the oldest home in Fairfax, Jail and Courthouse, the home of a Confederate Spy and Blenheim Civil War Interpretive Center. After the hike for those who are interested, we'll enjoy lunch at Commonwealth Brewery, 10426 Main St. This is a short walk from the start of our hike. **Please arrive at 9:15 am so we can get everyone checked in and start on time.** DISTANCE: 5 miles ELEVATION: 300 ft. (hills in Van Dyck Park and Daniels Run) PACE: 2.5-3 mph. Will stop at all intersections. TRAILS: Paved and dirt plus urban sidewalks, no water crossings MEET: 9:15am at Old Town Square (next to Town Hall), 10415 North St. PARKING Fairfax Public Library across street, or several free outdoor lots RESTROOMS: one portable restroom at the start and midway point at Sherwood Center. **Bring a flash light.** Some of the walk is lit with street lights. Some is not. We will be hiking along the historic Alexandria waterfront down and through scenic Old Town to the Wilson bridge and back. Lovely views of the river, as well as of Old Town. Part of the walk is on the Mount Vernon Trail bike path. Hike is mostly flat, and on paved surfaces or board walk. Please note the hike leaves at 600PM sharp. There are bathrooms at the halfway point. **Meet at the small parking area closest to the bike path. First left on Marina Drive. Not the large marina parking area that is further along.** We walk pretty briskly around 3.4-3.8 miles an hour. I assume if you can’t keep up, you can always find your way back to the starting point. Hope you can join our group of stalwart regulars and cheery newcomers. Happy hiking. Most of the walk has street lights, but not all so, but bring a light.

In the late 90’s she moved to the UK and then to California (USA) where she kept her practice and started to teach Mexican Shamanism and Curanderismo and other spiritual modalities. Now not only does she teach in California, but also in other states and countries. It is important to know that she is not an anthropologist or historian. Paloma learned from her teachers in the ancient way, “oral tradition”. \*IMPORTANT NOTE: Paloma is a Mexican Shaman who believes that "medicine plants" are helpful to some people only when used properly in ceremonies. New players are always welcome to come try it out! What you need: A bathing suit. Preferably something light and tight. We have extra gear for new players. But if you have your own pair of flippers, a snorkeling mask, and a snorkel then bring them along. You can ask them for help finding the pool. If no one is at the front desk just walk past it and there will be a set of stairs on the left. Take the stairs and take a right at the bottom of the stairs. The men's and women's locker rooms are straight ahead, and you will need to go through them to access the pool deck. Once you are out on the pool deck you will be exactly where we practice. Agenda: First 15 minutes: Arrival at the pool, getting gear from the shared gear bin, dividing into two teams, getting gear on. Minutes 15-30: Getting in the water, teaching any new players the basics Minutes 20-70: Scrimmage/practice. Minutes 70-75: Putting away club gear, putting the lane lines back in place, clearing the pool deck. (optional) afterwards: Go to a local restaurant for food, drinks, and socializing.

I haven't been on the water since before Thanksgiving! I'm guessing many of you have had an even longer dry spell, so let's try fixing that with a leisurely afternoon paddle of Clopper Lake in Seneca Creek State Park. This is contingent on the forecast remaining outrageously nice (I'm writing this one week out). We'll launch from the private boater area, just west of the boat rental center and do a 2.5 mile circumnavigation of the lake. If the water is high enough, we can paddle up through the spooky culvert into Long Draught Branch. 12:00 is on-the-water time for us to enjoy the warmest part of the day, so please arrive with sufficient time to get your gear unloaded (parking is very close to the water). We will be off the water before 2:00. This is event is suitable for paddleboards (including iSUPs), recreational/touring kayaks, and canoes, but not inflatable kayaks. Everyone must WEAR, not just bring a USCG-approved life jacket or PFD. The water temperature is still in the low 40's. At just about any other location, I would say that a wetsuit or drysuit is mandatory, but considering the water barely gets 4 feet deep in most spots, you will survive without one. Also, you would likely die of heat stroke wearing one if the 75° forecast holds up. Still, you ABSOLUTELY need to be wearing 100% synthetic-fiber clothing and I STRONGLY recommend packing a spare set of clothes in your dry bag.

The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education.
