AWS Community GameDay Europe
**AWS Community GameDay Europe is coming!**
Strategy. Fun. Collaboration.
We will join \~**50 User Groups across Europe** for a unique event: an **international, synchronized AWS Community GameDay**, powered by the European AWS community.
**🧩 A custom set of challenges makes this GameDay one of a kind.**
Get hands-on with **AI, security and cloud-native** challenges — no slides, no tutorials. A common scoreboard with global and local prices.
Come with a friend, a team, or solo - we’ll form teams of **2 to 4 people on site**.
**What is an AWS GameDay?**
An AWS GameDay is a team-based, competitive learning experience that transforms cloud training into an immersive, high-energy event. Unlike traditional workshops where participants follow step-by-step instructions, GameDay drops teams into a live AWS environment with real infrastructure—often broken, misconfigured, or under attack—and challenges them to figure out solutions on their own.
**What makes it a unique experience**
* No step-by-step guides—teams must explore, experiment, and problem-solve
* Real AWS accounts with actual running infrastructure (EC2, Lambda, S3, databases)
* Time pressure creates urgency and forces prioritization decisions
* Competitive leaderboard visible to all teams drives engagement
* Points lost for poor decisions (overspending, downtime, security gaps) teach consequences
**Format**
Teams of 2-4 people compete over 2 hours. Each team receives access to their own AWS environment with pre-deployed infrastructure.
**⚠️⚠️⚠️ BRING YOUR OWN LAPTOP ⚠️⚠️⚠️**
Registration closing on March 15th!!!
**AGENDA**
**📅** Tuesday, March 17th
**🕔** 17:30 Doors open
👥 17:45 Teams composition
**🚀** 18:00 Game starts! All locations connected live across Europe, we’ll kick off together, on time.
🏅 21:00 Global and local winners with prices
**📍** Sportradar, Litostrojska Cesta 52a, 1000 Ljubljana (parking available on-site)
**Compete live with AWS User Groups across Europe, all playing the same scenario at the same time.**

Backend Engineering in Practice: Build, Break, Recover
On **19th March 2026 at 18:00**, we’re gathering again at **Teads office (Dunajska cesta 5, 3rd floor, Ljubljana)** for an evening dedicated purely to backend engineering
📅 **Date:** 19th March 2026
⏰ **Time:** 6:00–8:00 PM
📍 **Location:** Dunajska cesta 5\, 1000 Ljubljana \| 3rd floor \(Teads office\)
🎟 **Admission:** Free
🍕 **Food and drinks:** Provided after the talks
**🗣️ When Things Break at Scale: Production Failure Patterns from GitLab**
*John Jarvis – Engineering Manager @ GitLab*
What actually happens when things break in a large, high-traffic distributed system?
In this session, John walks us through real production incidents from GitLab 2025–2026 operations. We’ll look at how failures are detected, how teams respond under pressure, and how systems recover. More importantly, we’ll extract patterns — the recurring failure modes and resilience strategies that backend engineers can apply in their own systems.
If you care about reliability, observability, scaling, and learning from real outages instead of theoretical examples — this one’s for you.
**🗣️ Backend in a Coffee Break**
*Miha Jakovac – Software Engineering Manager, Predictum Inc.*
Modern backend development often means spending more time wiring infrastructure than writing actual business logic.
This talk shares the story behind **Nomirun**, a toolkit that rethinks how .NET backends are built and run. You’ll see how services can be created and executed in a fraction of the usual time without sacrificing modularity or cloud readiness.
We’ll cover:
* Reducing backend boilerplate to near zero
* Switching between modular monolith and microservices instantly
* Standardizing infrastructure without slowing down development
* How AI agents are accelerating backend business logic implementation
If you enjoy pragmatic tooling, cleaner architectures, and faster iteration loops — this session will resonate.
**👥 Who should come?**
Anyone working with or interested in backend technologies—developers, architects, students, or anyone eager to dive deeper into backend engineering. The sessions will be in English 🇬🇧.
Expect deep backend discussions, production war stories, and practical engineering takeaways, followed by relaxed networking over pizza.
See you on March 19th.
Beyond Prompts: Securing and Observing Autonomous AI Agents
**Cloud Native Night Munich**
AI agents are no longer just generating text — they are opening pull requests, deploying to Kubernetes, and making autonomous decisions inside production systems. But how do we secure, govern, and observe systems that are inherently non-deterministic? In this meetup, we explore practical patterns for fine-grained authorization of AI-driven DevOps workflows and robust observability strategies for autonomous agents. Expect concrete architectures, cloud-native tooling, and real-world lessons for building agentic AI you can actually trust in production.
THIS MEETUP WILL BE HYBRID. **\|** Zoom link will be available shortly before the meetup starts
\*\*\* AGENDA \*\*\*
* 6\.30 PM \| Doors open\. Grab some snacks & drinks\.
* 7\.00 PM \| Welcome & Intro – **Start of hybrid meetup**
* 7\.15 PM \| **Beyond API Keys: Fine-Grained AI Agent Authorization for DevOps**, Ankit Asthana (Cloud infrastructure Architect at SQUER), Tom Graupner (Head of Cloud & Platform Engineering as SQUER)
* \~8:15 PM \| **Mastering Agentic Observability: Reliable Multi-Agent Systems with OpenTelemetry,** Nicolai Ommer (Software Architect at QAware)
* afterwards: More snacks & drinks, and a lot of time for networking with all attendees and speakers.
\*\*\* ABSTRACTS \*\*\*
**Beyond API Keys: Fine-Grained AI Agent Authorization for DevOps**, Ankit Asthana (Cloud infrastructure Architect at SQUER), Tom Graupner (Head of Cloud & Platform Engineering as SQUER)
AI agents are increasingly performing powerful DevOps actions like opening pull requests and deploying to Kubernetes. Yet most teams still rely on static tokens for authorization, which creates security and governance risks. In this talk, we present a practical pattern using OpenFGA and an Agent Gateway to enforce relationship-based, auditable authorization for AI-driven DevOps workflows—ensuring automation remains fast, controlled, and explainable.
**Mastering Agentic Observability: Reliable Multi-Agent Systems with OpenTelemetry,** Nicolai Ommer (Software Architect at QAware)
The software landscape is undergoing a paradigm shift. Agentic AI. While microservices operate deterministically, AI agents act probabilistically and often unpredictably, making them autonomous. This presents a significant challenge for platform engineers and DevOps teams. How can you monitor a service whose response varies with each call? How can you debug a 'hallucination' or an endless loop in decision-making?
In this talk, we will demonstrate why traditional 'golden signals' (latency, traffic and errors) are insufficient for AI agents and explain how they must be expanded. We treat agents as the new microservices and use the well-established OpenTelemetry (OTel) standard to shed light on the inner workings of LLMs and agentic workforces.

**ABSTRACT**
*Mastering Power BI Model Types - Import, DirectQuery, or Composite?* - **Gregor Prohaska**
Whenever you start a new Power BI project, you must choose the right model type — a decision that shapes all the work that follows.
This session explores the world of Power BI model types, focusing on the differences between Import, DirectQuery, and Composite models. We examine the limitations, advantages, and requirements of each model to provide a clear decision guideline for when to use each one.
This session aims Power BI developers, data analysts, BI architects, and anyone interested in maximizing the efficiency and flexibility of their Power BI solutions.
By the end of this session, atttendees will
* know the main differences between Import, DirectQuery and Composit models
* be able to choose (wisely) the right model for a given task
* understand the impact on report design, user experience and governance
If you want to avoid classic model type mishaps, this session is for you. Make your users (and database admins) happy and choose wisely!
