The Psychology of Stress & Burnout: A Buddhist Perspective
The Psychology of Stress & Burnout: A Buddhist Perspective
**To get the Zoom link, [please register here](https://www.samadhi.org.uk/events/psychology-of-stress-and-burnout/), you'll receive the link by email.** Stress and burnout are everywhere right now. But what’s actually behind them, and how can we have more peace and balance amidst life’s demands? Join Buddhist teacher David Oromith, who has spent over a decade at the intersection of Buddhist psychology and modern approaches to mental wellbeing, for an honest and practical evening on the inner causes of stress and burnout, and what we can do about them. Drawing on Buddhist psychology, years working in mental health services, and his own journey through depression, anxiety and burnout, David will explore: * why the modern stress cycle is so relentless, and what breaks it * the three layers of burnout and how to work with each one * simple practices and resets you can use anytime, anywhere * how acceptance and self-compassion help you bounce back when things go wrong David guides with warmth, honesty and humour. There’s no jargon and no pressure to be spiritual or anything other than who you are. We hope to share practical tools grounded in both ancient wisdom and modern understanding. The evening includes a short guided meditation, talk, and Q&A. **Who’s it for?** Anyone feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or just curious. Whether you’ve never meditated or practise every day, you’re very welcome. **Booking & Donations** There are limited places available for this evening talk and you can also join online. Please book in advance using the following link: [The Psychology of Stress & Burnout: A Buddhist Perspective - Samadhi](https://www.samadhi.org.uk/events/psychology-of-stress-and-burnout/) **Suggested donations:** £8–£15 in person, £5–£12 online. We are embracing a sliding scale policy for this event, guided by the Buddhist principle of generosity and inclusivity. There are suggested donations to help cover the cost of putting on these events, including room hires, refreshments, and travel and accommodation costs for the teacher and volunteers. Choosing the higher option includes a donation to support our activities for the benefit of all. We firmly believe, however, that financial constraints should never be a barrier to participation. If the suggested amount is beyond your means, please choose the lower option or contribute what you can — every offering helps make this event possible for the collective good. Without your honesty and generosity, we wouldn’t be able to make this event happen!

Killakee Viewpoint ✳️
Killakee Viewpoint ✳️
Join us for this Thursday evening cycle on the southside of the city up to the Killakee viewpoint and back. It’s a decent climb and offers some great views over the city. 🚨Warning: this cycle has a steep/long climb. 🔴 Back and front lights on your bike are essential for this cycle. The total distance is 25km, and so not far but it has 350m of climbing taken on all at once. For perspective, 350m is about twice the amount of climbing as the Thursday Howth cycle. If you are unsure of your ability to do this, I recommend trying the Thursday Howth Cycle first. We do not go fast up the climb, we go as slow as needed. Here is our plan for the evening: 1️⃣We leave at 6:30PM from Swan Leisure 2️⃣We cycle south through Rathfarham and climb up to Killakee via Stocking Lane 3️⃣If time allows, we'll make a stop at The Merry Ploughboy pub for a break and refreshment before heading back to the start. See link for komoot map below: https://www.komoot.com/tour/1944062322?ref=itd&share_token=avWE4P7gDG72obQjmW7n6nUD67jQdNauD2gbxInZd0955579N5&ref=its ⛑ PLEASE WEAR A HELMET and bring a tube in case you have a puncture. The organiser(s) is not in any way responsible for any participant on the trip. However, as a group of friends, we make an effort to look out for one another to the best of our ability. Zazen Meditation + Dharma talk or Kinhin
Zazen Meditation + Dharma talk or Kinhin
The meaning of the word zen is meditation, zazen means sitting meditation. In zazen practice we begin to know ourselves, and to go beyond the limits of our personal ego. Within our tradition zazen is referred to as shikantaza, not doing, letting go of thoughts, dropping off body and mind. This sitting meditation is the focus of our practice. Language limits our ability to communicate the true nature of zen; it is something that is better understood through practice. We are open to everyone interested in learning about zen. Intro workshop for newcomers is available at 5.30pm each Sunday. The dojo is a sacred place and it is important to be considerate of everyone. We have many people that travel to practise together once a week or once a month. So for that reason it is really essential that we all know the structure of the sitting practise (when to sit, how to do Kinhin, the different bell sounds and their meaning etc), to ensure a silent, safe and meaningful meditation. And it's also great to meet everyone before the sitting practise. And answer any questions you may have. We have zafus and zabutons (mats and cushions) for all to sit on. Chairs are available too. Comfortable clothing for sitting, black or neutral tones best. We greatly appreciate a donation of €5 to cover costs if it's possible for you. Please arrive 10min before start so 6ish (if you're not doing the intro workshop). You are very welcome to our dojo!
