AnimanJapan Anime & Manga Club!
If you love anime & manga then please join us for our weekly meetups, where we basically just sit, chat and read anime & manga!
We usually sit in the back of the pub. If the weather is nice we may sit outside at the back of the pub, or even outside on the downstairs floor.
In this meetup, you can BYOM (bring your own manga) or read one from the selection we will bring. See this as an opportunity to discover, recommend or simply enjoy Japanese comics & anime with like-minded people!
Note: This is not a book club.
Also, the TCR bar is kind enough to allow us to use their space to host this meetup, and has asked if possible for attendees to support the venue by purchasing a drink or food while you're there. Please don't bring your own food or drink to consume at the venue, as the venue does not allow this!
Come and Play Chamber Music
Come and play Chamber Music at my house on Sunday June 28th;
Time as suits between 2:30pm and 8:30pm
Please include instruments and expected times in your response, and follow the below requested precautions when coming:
Attendance requirements:
Please do not come if you are unwell or if you know you were recently exposed to people with Covid or flu.
Suggested standard is AB grade7 or NVQ level5 to professional, but in the end the ability to play with others is more important than instrumental technique
I provide the following:
Up to six playing spaces for groups of up to 12, 8, 6, 6, 6 and 3, respectively.
One of the six-person playing-rooms has a carefully-chosen Steinway model B. Other rooms provide a Clavinova CLP575, a Clavinova 625, and an A415 harpsichord (all in different rooms).
I have violins, violas, and cellos available to play for multi-instrumentalists who do not wish to carry too much (please check before coming). There is a decent library of chamber music mostly for strings and for strings and piano, but some for mixed groups and wind quintet; in practice at least one wind player usually comes equipped with appropriate music (I will provide warning to winds should this ever not be the case).
As this is my private home, details of the location will be emailed by early Sunday to those who have already signed up. Please confirm instruments, chosen timing and the attendance requirements
You will see that available playing times are very long - and I can extend until 10:30pm if appropriate. The intention is to allow us to space out and to minimise infection risks - as well as to give multiple pianists access.
Please bring a music stand (let me know if this is difficult or impractical, as I can provide a limited number).
There will be beverages and biscuits.
I have revised the anonymous contribution arrangement - it is now a rectangular tin on the high side in the kitchen. Please give if you can - we sometimes have insurance costs to cover as well as basic meetUp subscription; any surplus (wishful thinking so far) will be used to help extend the music library
The list of signed-up players (by instrument and with timing) is now in the comments below; I will try to keep this reasonably up to date
I have probably omitted things you need to know. Please ask. (Ditto apparent errors)
Looking forward
George
TRADITIONAL AND MODERN LAMPSHADE MAKING
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/traditional-and-modern-lampshade-making-78/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/traditional-and-modern-lampshade-making-78/)

If you aspire to the luxury and elegance of lampshades that ooze class like a dowager, this is the workshop for you. Even if you have never stitched in your life, Ian McQueen’s relaxed and friendly style of tuition will have you wishing you had taken to the sewing needle years ago.
Ian is a City and Guilds trained craftsman who makes elegant traditionally built fine lampshades for interior designers and high-end shops. Some are sophisticated – lined with silk so light glows through, some are dramatic statements bejewelled with vintage adornments. All are hand stitched -not glued – so that they retain their shape and structure to give years of pleasure.
During a one-day workshop, you will select a wire frame and transform it into a bespoke home accessory for all to admire in your home. We use a 10-inch diameter Drum shade and a 12-inch diameter straight Empire frame.
You can select fabric from a few fabrics we have available but we recommend you bring along 1 metre of fabric to match your colour scheme. If you want to walk on the wild side, bring any fabric you want to give new life. Students have even transformed an old pair of jeans into a striking shade.
The process is fun but meticulous so there is sometimes only the time to complete the stitching on one lampshade in a day. This will depend on your speed. What you will take home is some of the historical skills used by milliners and upholders. (They were the stitchers who hung the tapestries on medieval walls.) As well as the know-how and route to suppliers you will learn how to make your own lampshades at home. The tutor can demonstrate how to make simple trims in the same fabric. No special machinery is required and only a little help from a simple sewing machine is available at the centre. It does not matter if you have never used a machine before.
Choices-
1. Make a firm drum lampshade. Using a supplied frame, you will learn how to stitch reinforced fabric onto a frame using a traditional stitch.
2. A pleated or unpleated lampshade. The lampshade fabric is stretched or folded directly onto a ‘Straight Empire’ frame. The lampshade can then be lined with a contrasting fabric.
The use of all tools and materials are included. We have additional assorted frames for sale, as well as a small range of vintage trimmings for you to make more lampshades at home.
Suitable for beginners. Enjoyable for all.

Sunday Gaming at The Wapping Tavern
**You will find us in the games area in the lower section of the pub.**
Please ensure you read these: [Rules](https://www.londononboard.com/rules-regulations)
We don't allow Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly, Roleplaying games, Magic the Gathering, Mafia, Werewolf etc. at LoB as there are other venues or groups for that and we want to make sure that there is enough space for board games.
We want everyone that comes to our events to have a good time, and we know that some games require more communication than others. Please be mindful that we are in a small space and that other members will need to explain rules and focus.
As a small group of volunteers, we are very dependent on the good will of our venues to host us for free. It is vitally important that everyone attending LoB buys food and drink to ensure that we can build and maintain those relationships with our venues. If you have any feedback about the venue, please report it to us directly rather than speaking to the staff.
You must only attend if you have a place, i.e. that you have made it off the waitlist. If you can no longer attend, please mark your RSVP as ‘Not Going’, ideally more than an hour before the event starts. Please be aware that an organiser may ask to see proof of RSVP.
Herne Bay to Whitstable- free walk
Looking for a relaxed way to meet thoughtful people, enjoy the sea air, and have meaningful conversations?
Join us on Sunday 28 June at 10:00 AM from London Bridge Station for a beautiful coastal walk from Herne Bay to Whitstable.
We'll travel together, then spend the day walking along the shoreline, taking in the views, sharing ideas, and enjoying conversations that go beyond the usual small talk. There is no pressure, no networking agenda, and no need to be an expert in anything—just curiosity and openness.
As we walk, we'll explore questions such as:
What experience has changed your perspective on life the most?
What do you value more now than you did five years ago?
What is something you believe that most people around you disagree with?
If you could master one skill instantly, what would it be and why?
What does a meaningful life look like to you?
What book has had the greatest impact on your thinking?
What would your younger self be surprised to learn about you today?
What is a question you find endlessly fascinating?
What do you think people misunderstand most about happiness?
If you had complete freedom for the next year, how would you spend it?

K&J culture Picnic @ Primrose Hill 🍙🍰☀️
Join us for a relaxed afternoon picnic with delicious food and great conversations! Whether you're a regular or joining us for the first time, everyone's welcome!
🌳 **Where to Find Us**
We’ll be gathering in our usual spot, under the Shakespeare Oak at Primrose Hill.
**What to Bring**
To make this a fun communal vibe, we reccomend bringing a snack or drink to share.
While **any** food is welcome, it would be great to see some Korean or Japanese inspired treats!
e.g. Onigiri, Kimbap, Mochi... 🍙🥢
If you can bring a picnic blanket, or anything else that might be useful at a picnic, that would be really helpful.
Unfortunately BBQ's are not allowed in the park.
**Who Can Join?**
Everyone with an interest in Korean & Japanese culture is welcome.
Our events have a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. There's usually a mix of newcomers and regulars who will make you feel welcome.
🌤 **Weather**
Fingers crossed for good weather. We can handle a light shower, but if it rains heavily we'll move to a pub nearby. I'll leave a comment here if we decide to move.
Let’s leave no litter behind, and create some great memories together!

🌕Stargazing With Wine, Music & Telescopes🔭👽
🌌Ever look up and marvel with insatiable curiosity at the beauty and wonder of the **universe?** That wild sobering thought that somewhere in the chaos of creation - through the emergence of us - the universe became **conscious** enough to look back in time and not just ask the existential questions, but try to answer them.
🚀 Join fellow big picture thinker dreamers to take a look at **Venus,** **Jupiter** along with planet's potential life‑harbouring **moons**, iconic beautiful **star fields**, the remnants of supernovae witnessed by our earliest ancestors, **multi‑star systems** reminiscent of the twin suns of *Star Wars* and even **Tau Ceti**, a star hosting two Earth‑like worlds in its habitable zone.
As we await for skies to darken - we will **kick off with drinks, tunes and engaging conversation** and good‑natured banter in the park (feel free to bring blankets to sit on). In between observing - we'll have **drinks and engaging chats** on all astronomy related topics for those inclined: Space exploration \| Fermi Paradox \| Astrobiology \| Cosmology \| paleontology\, \| SETI & Drake Equation for alien civilisations estimates \| exoplanetology etc as well as non space chats and banter too\. No doubt we'll hear the usual jokes we've all heard before\! If those don't make you laugh\, my impersonation of Los Angeles ET will\! 👽
And to help set the mood and make the night feel even extra stary,
I’ll put my DJ hat to play some space‑theme tunes and songs about the stars!
You don't need a telescope as you will be able to view through scopes belonging to me and other club members (as long as you behave responsibly and don't temper with expensive equipment). If you have your own telescope/binoculars feel free to bring along and I can help you setting it up if you're a newbie
**==== ITINERARY =====**
We will meet outside H&I Station in Highbury Islington. After a short wait for anyone delayed, I will escort everyone to our observation point in the local park 5 minutes walk away and brief you in terms of what to expect, observing etiquette, tips, equipment handling and take any questions you have - weather general or astronomy/cosmology related.
**After Drinks:** Unless I have a very important 9AM Tue deadline for a unfinished client presentation or something - most of us usually head to a cosy bar for a drink. If so - I will annouce the pub when we leave the park
**==== What Can You Expect To See (this time of year)? ====**
* Orion Nebula
* Jupiter and 4 moons
* Meteors
* Andromedia Galaxy
* Star clusters such as the Pleiades & Owl Cluster etc
* International Space station fly by
* Binary & tripple star systems (think planet *Tatooine in* Starwars!),

Marketing Monday Networking
Monthly working lunch for Columbus business owners. One specific topic, one to three actions you can run this week.
You can be the best at what you do and still be invisible. If local buyers cannot find you, the phone does not ring.
Marketing Monday Lunch + Learn is a monthly working lunch for Columbus business owners focused on building relationships, local networking, and local marketing. Every kind of local business welcome. No pitch round, no pressure, no upsell.
**This month**
Most local businesses pick one or two places to be visible and call it good. The result is inconsistent calls and a feeling that marketing is not working. We will walk through the three places every local business needs to show up, plus the fourth place most owners ignore that quietly produces the warmest leads.
**What to expect**
Doors open at noon. Order lunch and drinks at the cafe counter or bring your own. You get real conversation with other local owners and a focused marketing lesson. You leave knowing people and with one to three actions to run that week. The room is reserved through 1:30 PM.
**Who this is for**
Any local business owner who wants clearer marketing direction and real local relationships. Service businesses, retail, home services, professional services, online owners building local presence, anyone serious about being part of the Columbus business community.
**Not the right fit if**
You are here to pitch the room or recruit for an MLM.

* 12:00 to 1:30 PM
* Good Cafe Easton, 4400 Easton Commons, Ste 150, Columbus, OH 43219
