OLD TOWN CAFÉ Weekend Write-Together
OLD TOWN CAFÉ Weekend Write-Together
We're hosting another in-person writing session in the Old Town Café once more. What is a write-together? It's a couple of focused writing sprints (30 mins each) with breaks in between for for snacks and chats. It's a chance to get some writing done *and* to meet other writers. All are welcome, old hands and newbies alike, and you can write whatever you like. To find us, seek out the people with laptops and notebooks (and I'll have a table sign if I remember to pack it!)
Let’s play… Salvage Union / Rosewood Abbey / The King is Dead
Let’s play… Salvage Union / Rosewood Abbey / The King is Dead
Join us every Sunday and tell a story as a group by playing a beginner-friendly roleplaying game. Every week we have 2-3 different games - you will choose which game you play on the day. All materials provided and rules are explained at the start of each game, you just need to bring your imagination. 🎭 **This week's facilitators:** * 🤖 **Flo** with *[Salvage Union](https://leyline.press/collections/salvage-union)*, a post-apocalyptic mech RPG with easy to learn mechanics. In a distant future, humanity has spread and scattered through the stars, Corporations own most of the liveable planets and a majority of the population works for them. Your group however is part of the Salvage Union, a self-sustaining community of workers, salvagers, pilots, technicians, cooks, and all manner of free spirits rejecting the Corpo’s hegemony. Your Crawler, a constantly falling apart colony-ship, slowly moves along from planet to planet in the Outer Rim to salvage as much Scrap as you can carry, using Mechs put together with salvaged scrap, duct tape and the unshakable belief that despite the Corpos and dangerous alien wildlife there is still hope and good people out there. You are **Salvagers**, what stories will they tell about you? * ⛪ **Vishnu** with *[Rosewood Abbey](https://rolistespod.itch.io/rosewood-abbey)*, a *Carved from Brindlewood* adventure where an informal brotherhood of curious friars, the Fratres Herodoti, solve the latest mystery that everyone is convinced is an act of god or the devil. In this week's adventure, the single rose that bloomed in winter is missing and it's up to the friars to get to the bottom of it before the rumour mill blows it up and the papal inquisition comes investigating. * 👑 **Adam** leading warrior princes and princesses towards a war of succession in *[The King Is Dead](https://lumpley.itch.io/the-king-is-dead)*, a GM-less, card-based RPG. The king of Banteave has died without heir and civil war is certain. To see your house exalted, you’ll have to fight and scheme, ally with your rivals and betray your friends. You were born for this. *** Feel free to ask the organisers any questions you have (here or on our [Discord server](https://tinyurl.com/indie-rpgs-dublin)).

Bloomsday swim at Sandycove
Bloomsday swim at Sandycove
Straw hats and Joycean attire not compulsory but certainly (heavily) encouraged. :-) "Come forth, Lazarus. And he came fifth and lost the job" (Ulysses, chapter 8). Let's celebrate Bloomsday by having a swim in Joycean attire. **Read** The final lines of Molly's soliloquy (obviously not all 40 pages of it), will be read. **Swim** Let's have a dive into the snotgreen and scrotumtightening sea. The swim is at your own risk! We are no lifeguards and we only arrange the meeting point. Make sure you have enough layers to keep warm before and after the swim, bring something warm to drink too. Some wear wetsuits, others don't so, some want to swim a bit of distance, others just want dip and get out - it's your swim, do what you want and meet us after... **Eat** Having demonstrated our incredible bravery, we will continue our adventure at a local café (time and venue TBC later, will try and source one that hopefully provides Joycean fare). Eating and drinking are at your own risk too. Will your eyes be bigger than your stomach? Don't leave it too late to sign up for the swim so I can book enough seats in the café afterwards. If you have questions, comments, suggestions, post them in comments for this swim. Browse discussions if you want to ask about the group or other events. See you on Sunday June 14. Relating Lab: The art of receiving
Relating Lab: The art of receiving
**An evening for over-givers** I asked the people who follow my work: "What's harder for you: giving or receiving?" The answers came back almost identical. Giving is easy. Receiving doesn't always come naturally. People described it as a burden, a debt, an awkwardness, a thing they'd been taught they had to earn first. One person said, "It's safer not to want." Most of us were trained to be *over-developed givers* and under-developed receivers, and we live the rest of our lives slightly off-balance because of it. The Relating Lab is a 105-minute group session to explore this topic, guided by a psychologist. **Who this is for** * You can give for hours. Receiving for five minutes feels strange. * When someone gives you something, you feel like you owe them something back. * You don't always know what you actually want. * You notice yourself trying to be worthy of the good things in your life. * You wish for more affection in your friendships without awkwardness. * You suspect that the way you were taught about love and worth in childhood is still running quietly in the background. **What we'll do** * A guided meditation on a recent moment when receiving felt hard * Paired work with a simple exercise that can change how you understand every interaction in your life. * A closing sound bath where you receive together. * A closing circle. **What this is not** This is not therapy. Not a workshop you'll have to perform at. Not a "share your trauma" circle. Just come as you are and give this topic the time it deserves. *Your only task is to **receive**. Not to deserve it. Not to repay it. Not to make anything happen. Just let it land.* **The practical bits** Sunday, June 14th, 4–5:45 pm. Calm Rooms, Monkstown. Up to 18 seats. RSVP through this Meetup. Wear something comfortable that you can sit on the floor in. Bring a water bottle. **About me** I'm Olena. I'm a psychologist (PSI graduate member), doing a PhD in organisational psychology, with somatic and consent-based training on top. I run cacao ceremonies and cuddle therapy sessions in Dublin. The Relating Lab is a series of four events that I'll be running monthly through the summer. Each event is focused on a different quadrant of the Wheel of Consent. This is the entry point. Come and share this space with like-minded people. **Everything is opt-in.** You can pass on any exercise without explaining why. This event is an introduction to future workshops about giving, receiving, taking, and allowing. It's a safe space; the exercises might include some platonic touch (if you opt in). Every participant is invited to come with reverence for others in the group.
Craft Night
Craft Night
**Craft Night has returned to Tog!** *From 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm every second Sunday, drop by and join in.* Whether you make the yarn itself (we love spinners!) or noodle about with e-textiles and blinky quilts, you will be very welcome. If you haven’t been to Craft Night before, it’s mainly people working on portable crafts like yarn-based and textile projects, jewellery and paper crafts. Feel free to bring your current WIP (Work In Progress). We’ll take over the common area with crafting and conversation. We might even try to bring a group Craft Night project to Dublin Maker (it’s been a while!). You’ll find the nights on [our calendar](https://www.tog.ie/calendar/), so you don’t need to remember which every other Sunday it is. Newcomers to Tog are more than welcome to join us. See you there!

The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge. **Abstract** *Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code* Visual Studio Code is one of the most widely used development environments today, and much of its flexibility comes from its extension ecosystem. Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs. In this session, we’ll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. We’ll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling. The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. We’ll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options. **YouTube Link** TBD
Smart Search + AI: An Outcome-Driven Journey from IDP to a Suite of AI
Smart Search + AI: An Outcome-Driven Journey from IDP to a Suite of AI
Over a billion documents processed. Millions of Veterans impacted. Hundreds of thousands of employee hours saved. Faster decisions. Greater accuracy. More benefits in the hands of our disabled Veterans. We created Smart Search, the world’s largest consumer of Amazon Textract, right when GenAI began reshaping what’s possible. Since then, we’ve built a suite of AI‑driven solutions that transform this data into real, measurable outcomes—accelerating benefits decisions for our Nation’s Veterans. Join us for a focused conversation on how an outcome‑driven approach to AI is helping us boost accuracy, streamline workflows, and deliver faster results for those who have served. This is a follow up to the AWS re:Invent 2023 "Intelligent Document Processing with Gen AI for Public Sector" presentation.
