Meaningful Conversations Zurich is a small and intentional gathering space for people who value honest conversations, thoughtful reflection and genuine human connection.
A space to slow down, listen carefully and speak more openly than we usually do in everyday life.
There is no specific expertise required and no expectation to perform, impress or have the right answers.
Each gathering explores a small number of questions connected to everyday life, relationships, responsibility, purpose, uncertainty, personal growth and the human experience.
The Questions of the Gathering (28th of June) are these:
*\* Where in my life have I become repetitive, numb or disconnected from what feels alive?*
*\* What currently deserves more of my attention than I am giving it?*
*\* Where am I forcing something that may no longer be aligned with who I am becoming?*
*\* What helps me distinguish between noise and what genuinely matters?*
The intention is not to debate or convince one another, but to create space for genuine exchange and different perspectives.
**Who this is for**
This gathering may resonate with you if you enjoy thoughtful conversations, personal reflection, curiosity about different perspectives, and meeting people beyond the usual networking or social small talk.
**Practical Information**
⢠Limited to 10 participants to support meaningful connection and a comfortable atmosphere.
⢠The participant mix continues to evolve with each gathering. Diverse perspectives and experiences are warmly welcomed and help enrich the quality of the conversations.
⢠The gathering takes place outdoors whenever possible, usually near the lake in Zurich. In case of bad weather, an indoor alternative will be communicated in advance.
Registration
To keep things organised, registration happens through Luma rather than through WhatsApp messages.

Batik Tulis Workshop â Wax & Dye Textile Art (Zurich)
**Step away from the pace of everyday life and spend a day immersed in the quiet rhythm of batik.**
Batik is a traditional wax-resist textile art where patterns emerge slowly through the interaction of hot wax and dye. The process invites patience, attention, and a different sense of time â one where the act of making becomes as important as the final piece.
In this studio workshop we will explore the traditional batik tulis process using canting (the wax drawing tool) and dye.
The day unfolds gradually: observing how wax flows, how colour layers develop, and how patterns begin to reveal themselves on cloth.
Working with batik often becomes a quiet conversation between intention and discovery â balancing moments of control with moments of letting go as the wax and dye take their course. Many participants find that the process creates a natural space for focus, reflection, and an inner dialogue that unfolds through making.
During the workshop you will:
⢠learn the fundamentals of traditional batik wax-resist techniques
⢠create two small batik textiles (one guided, one your own design)
⢠experience the slow, meditative rhythm of working with wax, colour, and pattern

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Learning from Everyday Data
**Practical Curiosity: Learning from Everyday Data**
How do we actually get better at utilizing our day-to-day data? Fancy dashboards and complex models might look nice and draw attention, but thatâs not where most of us spend our time. In fact those shiny outputs frequently sit unused, while the real insights are drawn from the analystâs daily practice.
Sometimes itâs as simple and as powerful as noticing that a segment is shrinking, a channel is underused, or certain links keep getting all the clicks. Thereâs many different places that the spark of insight can come from, but you have to keep your head in the data and know where to look.
In this session, weâll explore real-world examples of how segmentation, testing, and click behavior can uncover practical digital marketing opportunities. Youâll leave with inspiration for your own use cases, along with a few simple ways to ask better questions, spot meaningful patterns, and make smarter decisions without overcomplicating it.
**About Our Speaker:**
[Elaine Armbruster](https://www.linkedin.com/in/elainearmbruster/) is a Director of Digital Experience at the [American Diabetes Association](https://diabetes.org/), where she focuses on using data and insights to create smarter, more effective digital experiences. A lifelong Columbus resident, she has built her career in email marketing and the broader digital user journey, and is finding she most enjoys working in the messy middle where systems, data, and big ideas donât quite line up yet.

Stop Guessing: How to Measure and Improve LLM Outputs
Most people use LLMs by feel: ask a question, read the answer, decide whether it âseems good,â and move on.
That works for casual use. It does not work when you are building software, automating workflows, writing important documents, or relying on AI for anything that needs to be repeatable.
In this talk, weâll look at how to improve and evaluate the inputs and outputs of LLMs using practical measurement techniques. Weâll cover how prompt changes affect results, how to compare outputs, how to build simple evaluation sets, and how math-based methods like similarity scoring can help you move beyond guesswork.
This will be beginner-friendly, so even if you don't know anything about AI, you should get something out of it. However, this will be a little more technical than our intro talks. You do not need to be an AI researcher, but programmers and technically curious attendees will get a lot out of it.
Weâll cover:
* Why âit looks goodâ is not enough
* How to improve prompts by changing the input, context, and constraints
* How to compare LLM outputs more systematically
* Basic evaluation techniques for accuracy, consistency, and usefulness
* How embeddings, cosine similarity, and scoring can help evaluate results
* Where automated evaluation works â and where humans still need to stay in the loop
By the end, youâll have a practical mental model for treating LLMs less like magic and more like systems you can test, measure, and improve.
LOGISTICS AND PARKING:
The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks!
The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
Yarn Social at Northwest Library
If you enjoy knitting, crocheting, working with yarn, this is the group for you. Meet new friends, bring your projects, learn from others.â¨We normally meet a few times a month during the week from 6-8pm. We will occasionally meet on weekends during daytime hours.
