Pickleball-James Lee Community Center-Outdoor (near the playground area)
The pickleball courts are situated on the far side of the playground, past the swing sets and picnic area. These courts (are] strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, and we do not offer reservation for public use. The courts are frequently unoccupied, but sometimes few people utilize the courts. We've created a WhatsApp group for our Meetup community to help everyone stay connected and get event updates more quickly. It’s a great way to share important info, coordinate plans, and keep each other in the loop about upcoming meetups. Feel free to join so you don’t miss out on any of the fun! https://chat.whatsapp.com/Bw0vxcNKRC1CeHixU41wTG

Contribute to a project to improve a local civic issue. **All are welcome and collaboration is encouraged.** Laptops are recommended but not required. **Where do I register?** To better serve our growing community, we’re transitioning our event registrations to Luma! **We still love Meetup** Meetup has been an incredible platform for us to build and connect with our community. We’ll continue sharing upcoming events there so that new people can find us, but Luma will be our primary registration platform moving forward. **Why we're making the switch** Meetup’s registration system has some limitations, and we need more flexibility to manage sign-ups and engagement. \-\-\-\-\-\- [REGISTER FOR THE EVENT HERE (ON LUMA)!](https://luma.com/buwatm7e) \-\-\-\-\-\-

Defending Self-Determination From DC to Venezuela
Defending Self-Determination From DC to Venezuela
*An Assata Shakur Study Group on US Military Escalation: From the Invasion of Venezuela to National Guard in DC.* The U.S. is escalating its war on the Global South—from attacks on Venezuela to the use of military force, ICE deportations and juvenile curfews, including the National Guard deployment in DC. Join **Pan African Community Action (PACA)** to unpack how the U.S. empire and its allies justify invasion and terror through media narratives, sanctions, and so called “international law”, while denying people’s right to self-determination. We will examine ongoing resistance in Venezuela and why these struggles matter for working-class and oppressed communities everywhere. The discussion will also connect foreign militarism to domestic repression and the need to build real community power in Southeast D.C. *Food will be provided!* Please register as well: **\[S\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**\)\[elf\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**\)\[D\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**\)\[etermination\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**\)\[F\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**\)\[rom\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**\)\[DC\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**\)\[to\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**\)\[V\]\(https://selfdetermina\.\.\. \(https://selfdeterminationfromdctovenezuela\.eventbrite\.com\)**)[enezuela.eventbrite.com](https://selfdetermina... Adams Morgan, Meridian Hill Park, Kalorama, Joan of Arc
Adams Morgan, Meridian Hill Park, Kalorama, Joan of Arc
Let's take a walk Saturday around Adams Morgan neighborhood and visit Meridian Hill Park! John originally led this hike and his map includes a motherlode of historical highlights and other details on our route (which will include the "Hinckley Hilton"). This is a good jaunt to explore a swath of D.C. that many folks may not know. I hope people appreciate that I had the Joan of Arc statue moved to Connecticut Ave. specifically for this hike. OK, A.I. did the heavy lifting, but still... **❶ What we'll do:** * Starting from the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro Station on Connecticut Ave., we'll follow a big counter-clockwise route around the Adams Morgan neighborhood in Washington DC, with a visit to Meridian Hill Park. * Total distance is a little over 4.5 miles and should take about 2 hours, depending on breaks. The surface is paved throughout, with steps here and there. There are some hills, but overall this is a moderately easy walk. * Google map: [http://tinyurl.com/ycu74jg7](http://tinyurl.com/ycu74jg7) **❷ How to get there:** * Metro (recommended): The Woodley Park Zoo Metro Station is on the Red Line. For planning and alerts, see the WMATA Trip Planner at [https://www.wmata.com/](https://www.wmata.com/) * Driving: If you drive, the Woodley Park Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro Station street address is 2700 Connecticut Ave., NW Washington, DC 20008. There is limited parallel parking in the area, but mind the street signs and leave plenty of time to find a spot! **❸ What to bring:** Water, comfy shoes, and your furry friend (dogs must be leashed at all times). **❹ Weather:** * The forecast is mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Updates here: [https://tinyurl.com/ycxedy5v](https://tinyurl.com/ycxedy5v) * Air quality forecast: [https://tinyurl.com/sv7j58f7](https://tinyurl.com/sv7j58f7) **❺ Advisory:** As a reminder, this is an adult group, and you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and well-being during events. No one under 18 years of age is allowed at this event, either as members or as guests, to include babies in carriers and/or strollers. **❻Administrative stuff:** There are restrooms near the meetup point at the Shoreham Hotel, and in Meridian Hill Park about halfway through the walk. **❼ Notes:** * Meridian Hill Park, 16th St NW &, W St NW, Washington, DC 20009, [https://www.nps.gov/places/meridian-hill-park.htm](https://www.nps.gov/places/meridian-hill-park.htm) * McDonald's, 2616 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008
Distribution Event - Atheists Helping the Homeless
Distribution Event - Atheists Helping the Homeless
**Looking to** \- Help out neighbors in the DC area? \- Support a secular charity? \- Connect with other atheists and humanists? Join Atheists Helping the Homeless DC at our monthly distribution event! Atheists Helping the Homeless is a 501(c)(3) charity that distributes items like backpacks, socks, gloves, and toiletries to people in need throughout the Washington, DC region. We meet up on the second Saturday of every month outside of a homeless shelter in Silver Spring, MD, called Progress Place, and pass out whatever items we have to whoever is there. Each month we serve between 60 - 100 people. Afterwards, we usually go out for breakfast. Our goal is to provide a way for people to help each other without affiliating with a religion. Our method is to go straight to those in need, and create a welcoming and fun atmosphere to effectively create an environment where secular community can grow and thrive. If this sounds fun, see you there!
Socrates Café Rockville Meetup
Socrates Café Rockville Meetup
Socrates Café are gatherings around the world where people from different backgrounds get together and exchange philosophical perspectives based on their experiences, using the Socratic Method of inquiry (asking and answering questions). Today, there are hundreds of such gatherings, coordinated by volunteers, worldwide. Though this may be considered a "philosophy" group, there are no rules as to what is discussed. Usually, the topics revolve around social concerns, morality, and the first principles of things. Please post any questions you would like the group to consider on the meetup event's page; in the comments section. Several days before the meetup I will post a link to a voting form in the comments section, and everyone can vote on their preferred questions. The questions with the highest and second highest number of votes will be discussed. Hope to see you there! -Brian

Drunken Philosophy: Is Life a Dream?
Drunken Philosophy: Is Life a Dream?
Welcome to Drunken Philosophy, a casual, curious, social discussion club. Optional topic for this meet up: Is life a dream? Dreams feel real while they last. Could life work the same way? How do we know we’re awake, and what follows if we can’t be sure? Let’s kick that around over a around of drinks: • What makes something feel real: continuity, shared evidence, or meaning? • How would you tell you’re awake (reality checks, memory, other people)? • If life is dreamlike, what becomes of free will and responsibility? • Is identity a story we keep telling—who’s the narrator? • Are we author, actor, or audience in our dreams and how would you tell? • Does art/film reveal reality or replace it? No lectures. Friendly crowd. Drop in for one drink and stay if it’s fun.
Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup (4th Tues)
Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup (4th Tues)
Jimmy V's Grill & Pub in Grandview Heights. You are responsible for your own meal/drinks. We usually don't have any agenda other than eat, drink and talk. :) This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade. Many attendees do not RSVP on meetup. Please don't let the small number here discourage you. Anyone/everyone is welcome to come. We'd love to have you join us. COTA bus #5 comes to W. 5th and Wyandotte Rd. And it's a minute walk to the restaurant. *** Did you know that there are atheists everywhere?!?! You may not know it, but we are! We're in your schools, diners, police force, military, government, and some are even still in your churches! So come and join us and meet other local atheists, along with agnostics, heathens, humanists, skeptics, and anyone else who's 'hell bound'! Vision: a Central Ohio that accepts atheism as a viable alternative in all areas of public and private life. Mission: grow, support, and provide community for atheists in Central Ohio. Social meetings held most Tuesdays at a local pub/restaurant at 7:00 PM (and often into the wee hours). Attendees call themselves agnostics, skeptics, humanists, non-theists, deists or even theists. All attendees are welcome but should support our vision. Atheists of Columbus (AoC) is part of Omnipresent Atheists (OA). AoC members are invited to join this OA meetup and/or OA Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/omnipresentatheists/ ) but are free to continue conversations on the AoC Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/columbusatheists/ ). AoC was founded in 2012 as a networking, social group for Central Ohio area humanists, skeptics, atheists, agnostics, nonbelievers, freethinkers, and the curious. It was a member of Columbus CoR and held weekly meetings, mostly on Fridays, for several years but then operated as an online only group for some time. In November 2018, Omnipresent Atheists (OA), a group that routinely meets on Tuesdays, invited AoC to merge. Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason (ColumbusCoR.org). Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason ( http://www.ColumbusCoR.org ). Omnipresent Atheists endorses the mission of the Secular Coalition for America ( http://secular.org ).
