Shut Up & Write! [Amsterdam/ IJburg]
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at Factor-ij Amsterdam on Thursday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
11: 15 AM - Quick introductions
11: 30 AM - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
12: 30 PM - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing
OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 12:30 pm after the writing is wrapped. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at Factor-ij!
What Should I Bring?
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons.
Please come with your devices pre-charged, since we probably won't be always sitting somewhere with charging possibilities.
Other Important Details:
Travel by public transportation:
1. Take Tram 26 from the central station Amsterdam, and step out by the last stop.
2. Take bus 66 from the Amsterdam Bijlmer station, step out by Pieter Oosterhuisstraat, and further walk in the direction of the bus till the corner.
FREE Wifi.
Compulsory consumption is not required, but please do order a drink to honor our generous host.
Write In!
PLEASE NOTE: WE DON'T MEET IN THE LOBBY. THAT'S JUST THE ONLY AVAILABLE OPTION FOR THE LOCATION. PLEASE COME TO THE 7TH FLOOR (ACCESSED BY ELEVATOR A) AND WALK BACK TO THE REGISTER WITH THE PIZZA OVEN. WE SIT AT ONE OR BOTH OF THE LONG RECTANGULAR TABLES.
The group was born in November 2016 as a Nanowrimo write-in group. We met for the whole month and at the end decided to stick together as a group. We wrote our own work, but sometimes did word wars, sprints, and even prompts on occasion. We met at OBA Amsterdam. Then we discovered Scheltema. It ticked all of our boxes: with tables, comfy and not-so comfy chairs, power, internet, and coffee. Video may have killed the radio star, but Covid killed Scheltema for us.
Now we're back where we started at the Central Library in Amsterdam on the 7th floor in the restaurant by the hot food pickup point at one or both of the two big rectangular tables. To find us, take elevator A (to find the elevator, walk up the steps once you enter the library, then look to your right) to the 7th floor. Walk straight back past the first register and the buffet until you reach the hot food pick-up point. We write for 1.5 hours and then go for drinks afterward. The best way to stay current is via our What'sApp group. To be added, please contact Tina at +31627194553.

Valentine’s ritual for ladies 💃
Let your soul bloom this winter 🌸🪞
Registration in instagram is required
When was the last time you looked in the mirror with absolute tenderness? Not looking for flaws, not criticizing, but simply... accepting?
🗓 February 12th, we invite you to a special workshop — an evening of creativity, warmth, and self-love.
We will combine the magic of painting with a tea ceremony. Over a cup of special tea, you will receive your mirror. But this time, you won’t just see a reflection there.
✨ What will we do?
You will take a brush and add to the mirror whatever you are missing right now.
Flowers framing your smile?
Words of support right on the glass?
Symbols of protection or patterns of joy?
What is the meaning behind it?
It is a simple but deep practice. You look at yourself through the prism of beauty that you create with your own hands. You add tenderness, strength, and acceptance to yourself.
🎁 The main highlight:
This mirror goes home with you.
So that the next morning, when you walk into the bathroom or bedroom still sleepy, you won't look at yourself with criticism, but through flowers and warm words. This is your new morning ritual of self-love.
Join us to bloom!
⏰ When: February 12, 19:00
Place - TBD

Felix Tensing: Exploratives Testen Bottom-up – Testsessions mit Sprengkraft
Hallo liebe Java User Group Mitglieder!

Whether you are a designer with a vision or a player who loves seeing how the "cardboard magic" happens, we invite you to our board game playtesting night in Den Bosch.
Here is how you can get involved:
**The Evening Flow**
* **19:30 \| The Designer Pitch:** We kick things off with a quick showcase. Designers present their prototypes, giving you a glimpse into the mechanics and themes currently on the table.
* **The Playtest:** Once the pitches are in, players choose their table. Our goal is to ensure every game gets the eyes (and hands) it needs.
* **The Rotation:** Depending on the length of the games, ranging from quick fillers to more "epic" sessions, we will rotate players and designers throughout the night.
* **22:30 \| Wrap Up:** We wind down the sessions, exchange final feedback, and head out.
**Why Join Us?**
* **For Designers:** Get your prototype off the kitchen table and into the hands of the players. Real-world feedback is the most powerful tool in your design kit.
* **For Players:** Be the first to break (and then help fix) something new. Your insights directly influence the development of the next potential tabletop hit.
**Location:** Labyrinth Den Bosch, Orthen 16, Den Bosch **Time:** 19:30 - 22:30ish
Whether you have a game to test or just a passion for playing, come help us turn good ideas into great games.
Bringing a game concept/prototype? Consider making a 1-pager (best known as a sell-sheet) to add to your table. Players appreciate this and it helps in preparing for your game pitch.
To check for actual updates and to sign up as a designer please go to our Guild website and find the event post of that month. We also share more events and news there: [spellenmaakgilde.nl](https://spellenmaakgilde.nl/)

ManKracht Avond (Amersfoort)

AI Essentials for professionals - 2e pilot
* Klopt dit wel?
* Gebruik ik AI “goed”?
* Haal ik er echt voordeel uit, of kost het vooral tijd?
* Niet-technische managers en professionals
* Die veel werken met tekst, plannen en besluitvorming
* Die AI al gebruiken (bijv. ChatGPT), maar daar nog te weinig zekerheid en rendement uit halen

FinFit Circle: Making Smart Money Decisions in Relationships
## **Making Smart Money Decisions in Relationships**
*Live expert discussion + facilitated breakout circles on 'Love & Money'*
RSVP (**https://luma.com/b3dphgts)**
Money is rarely just about numbers. It’s about who decides. Who carries responsibility. Who plans ahead — and who assumes things will work out.
This Valentine’s FinFit Circle session is ***for women who want to build relationships — new or ongoing — that are loving, fair, and financially secure***, without being naïve, pessimistic, or afraid to ask real questions.
Whether you’re dating, in a long-term commitment, separating, or starting again, this conversation helps you think clearly about money before emotions or circumstances decide for you.
***
## **What this session is really about**
This live FinFit Circle session explores how money shapes relationships in practice — through everyday decisions and conversations.
Together, we’ll look at:
* **Where money decisions actually get made** (often earlier than we think)
* **Which assumptions tend to create tension or imbalance over time**
* **Which questions, financial and legal arrangements, and boundaries matter most across different stages of relationships**, while you still have room to choose differently
***
## **Three expert lenses, one grounded conversation**
Money in relationships doesn’t sit in one domain — which is why this session brings together emotional, financial, and legal perspectives:
* **[Stephanie Clifford-Kroon](https://clifford-kroon-coaching.lovable.app/about)**, Certified Relationship Coach
* **[Nadam Schmidt](https://www.linkedin.com/in/nadamschmidt/)**, Certified Financial Planner
* **[Siham Maachi](https://silkadvocaten.nl/en/team/siham-maachi/)**, International Family Lawyer & Solicitor
***
## **What you’ll walk away with**
* **Clarity on your money patterns** and how they show up in relationships
* Key questions and **practical tips** **to discuss money constructively** with a (future) partner
* Ways to think about **shared vs individual finances**, including what’s smart, why, and tradeoffs
* **Legal realities** worth knowing early (agreements, rights, timing)
* **Perspective and connection** from women navigating similar questions
***
## **How the session works**
* **60-minute live fireside conversation**
* **30-minute interactive breakout circles** (4–6 women)
**Location:** FinFit Circle · Online
***
## **Contribution**
This session is **€30**.
If you’re able, you can **pay it forward** by sponsoring another woman’s place at the same introductory rate, helping keep these conversations accessible in the FinFit community.

Dystopia: Imagine Tomorrow!
A small-group roundtable exploring speculative futures, an event series and a theme I wanted to make happen for ages.
This event is a guided, small-group discussion where we explore dystopian and speculative futures together — not as experts or debaters, but as curious people imagining how tomorrow might unfold, and where we might find ourselves in it.
Inspired by shows like Black Mirror 📺 and Love, Death & Robots 🤖, we’ll use fictional scenarios as a lens to reflect on technology, society, ethics, and human behavior.
***
**How it works** 🧠
We meet in a cozy place and sit at small tables of about 4 people.
Each table receives one dystopian scenario.
You’re welcome to bring your own idea as well ✍️
***
**Discussion rounds** 💬
For each scenario, imagine how it begins and develops.
Where are you in this world? How does daily life change?
* Scenario 1 – 30 minutes
* Scenario 2 – 30 minutes
* 🔀 Shuffle
We change tables, meet new people, and dive into another set.
* Scenario 3 – 30 minutes
* Scenario 4 – 30 minutes
There are no right answers — the goal is shared imagination and perspective, not debate or problem-solving.
***
**Event timeline (≈ 3 hours)** ⏱️
* 30 minutes – Arrival, intro, explanation, writing or choosing scenarios
* 2 hours – Structured roundtable discussions
* 30 minutes – Casual conversations, cool down, “mind-bleach” 🧼🧠
***
**Who is this for?** 👥
* People who enjoy meaningful conversations
* Fans of dystopian fiction, speculative futures, or “what if?” questions
* Curious locals & expats looking to meet others beyond small talk
No background knowledge needed — just openness and imagination 🌱
***
**What kind of scenarios?** 🌍
Examples may include:
* Algorithmic control and social scoring
* Climate collapse and forced adaptation
* AI-mediated relationships
* Extreme comfort at the cost of freedom
* Mandatory transparency or surveillance
Some themes may be dark or uncomfortable, but participation is always voluntary 🖤
***
**Practical info** 📍
Location: Utrecht, Griftpark, En Public
Language: English
Duration: \~3 hours
Cost: Free (please honor this amazing bar with drinks so we can keep coming back)
Group size: Max. 15 people
***
**A small note** ⚠️
This is not a lecture or a debate club.
It’s a social thought experiment — guided but relaxed — designed to encourage listening, creativity, and respectful exchange 🤝

Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington.
The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for February is "Transitions"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

We'll meet at The Capital One Café, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator.
Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking!
• What we'll do
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros.
10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour.
11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing.
OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you!
• What to bring
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible.
See you at The Café on Saturday!
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋
