Mount Macedon in autumn (4 spots - road trip)
[Instagram: Road Trips by The Dancing Voyager: Ron Singh](https://www.instagram.com/the_dancing_voyager_ron_trips)
Sunshine forecast! Spontaneous day trip to Mount Macedon for autumn! Very short notice! These are always fun!
Over 60 road trips done in 4 years! I run 3 Meetup groups (shown on my profile).
This road trip is for people new to Australia who have not been to this location (International Students, Working Holiday Makers and tourists)! No evidence is required. I will trust you!
**Details given below in sections: (1) Questions / (2) Road trip itinerary / (3) Payment / (4) Responsibility / (5) Breaks / (6) Weather / (7) Phone charging / (8) Contact**
**\-\-\- \(1\) QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS \-\-\-**
**Your questions for me:** Why is the total fee so low at $20, covering a new, large rental (SUV), fuel and driver, on something that seems really high quality and well planned, like a private tour company? Sounds too good to be true or that there is a catch. Is this genuine?
**My answers to you:** Because this project is my community service to give back. I explain this further below. The low fee is just a formality to confirm your place, so that I know you are serious on attending.
This is genuine. Over 60 road trips done in 4 years! I have created precious memories for many people new to Australia. Photos on Instagram link further above.
**\-\-\- \(2\) ROAD TRIP SUMMARY AND ITINERARY \-\-\-**
Day trip to Mount Macedon. Autumn is a truly beautiful time of the year! Mount Macedon is one of the best destinations in Victoria for autumnal bliss!
**Itinerary: Organ Pipes National Park - Macedon autumn leaves - Camel's Hump - Major Mitchell Lookout - Mount Macedon Memorial Cross - Sanatorium Lake - Hanging Rock lookout - Macedon autumn leaves encore**
**Meeting point: Fed Square, 8:45 am**. Back there by **5:45 pm**. Meet by the steps (main entrance, opposite the Swanston Street tram stop).
**\-\-\- \(3\) PAYMENT \-\-\-**
**Total fee: $20 in total (no other costs). This covers a new, large rental (SUV), fuel and driver.**
**Eventbrite link for payment:** [https://mountmacedon-road-trip.eventbrite.com.au](https://mountmacedon-road-trip.eventbrite.com.au/)
**Cancellations:** If I cancel the road trip for any unforeseen issues, a full refund will be given. If you cancel, there is no refund.
**Why is the fee so low?**
The low fee is just a formality. It might sound too good to be true or that there is a catch. There is no catch. I am simply someone who has been giving back for many years. I playfully call this project a “Melbourne travel secret”!
There are people in this world who want to genuinely give back without any expectations because they are truly fulfilled and grateful for what they have. I am one of those people. This is my community service. I am not doing this for money and I never have. Money cannot buy passion.
The nature of majestic Australia helped me find peace and passion and I want to give back by sharing that inspiring nature with people new to this country. If they are also inspired by that nature, then that is my reward. There is no hidden agenda in doing this project.
The reason I am being quite upfront is because in this day and age, there is always a catch when people do something like this. There is none with me and I am not selling or promoting anything. I do not need anything because I have peace, passion and fulfilment. I have everything. I am truly humbled and grateful.

**\-\-\- \(4\) RESPONSIBILITY\, LIABILITY\, SAFETY \-\-\-**
As your driver, I am responsible and liable for your safety while we are in the vehicle. Passengers are insured as per the Australian law.
For times we are outside the vehicle, we then become responsible for our own liability and safety, just like every other capable adult in society.
**\-\-\- \(5\) BREAKS/MEALS \-\-\-**
There will be many breaks for sightseeing/walks. I will stop at places where food/snacks will be sold but you are welcome to bring your own as well. There will be a lunch break at either a cafe or takeaway shop.
**\-\-\- \(6\) WEATHER AND WHAT TO WEAR \-\-\-**
I plan events when weather looks good but please also see itinerary for location details and check the forecast to dress accordingly. My advice is to always be prepared! Recommend to have something to cover you if rain suddenly appears or if winds suddenly get cool. Also recommend to carry sunscreen and a hat.
Please also wear good, comfortable shoes that can provide protection from water (in case there are muddy areas). You can bring many things, as the vehicle will have a lot of storage space.
My road trips do not have a lot of long walks. The focus is on sightseeing, relaxing and appreciating the beauty of nature.
**\-\-\- \(7\) PHONE CHARGING \-\-\-**
Please charge your phone before joining. In the past, people have taken lots of videos and photos and used up their batteries! You can bring your charging cable if you want. The vehicle will have various charging ports.
**\-\-\- \(8\) CONTACT \-\-\-**
If you need to contact me, please reach out through Meetup, Eventbrite or Instagram. If you wanted my mobile number, please let me know.

2026 Ski Trips Planning Session
Please Note: - this event is only for committee members and members who have skied with us several times before on previous trips. Any new members, are welcome to attend our club information night at the start of June.
Hope everyone is well and looking forward to hitting the alpine region this winter.
With that in mind, it is high time to prepare for this year's activities. Mark and I will be hosting a pre-season meetup at Mark’s home in Heidelberg.
The committee and any interested members who have skied with us before are welcome to come along and help design the 2026 trip program. The more leaders who can help out, the more trips we can run.
The goals are:
* to confirm any accommodated events are in hand - that is, the dates are confirmed, the venue is booked, etc.
* to give members an opportunity to have input into shaping this year's calendar. We usually use the previous year as a template, and adapt as necessary.
* to get a preliminary expression of interest from people interested in helping run the activities, either as leaders, assistants, car pooling coordinators, cooks, etc.
* to ensure new and existing leaders are catered for, in terms of (mandatory and fully subsidised) first aid qualifications, etc.
* to learn the organizational details of leading a ski trip, including how to manage bookings, responsible trip leadership and other useful information
* any other miscellaneous information or issues which might impact on the 2023 program.
Yarra and Botanics Walk discussing 'I'd Rather Not' by Robert Skinner
We'll meet at the spot where Fed Square meets the Princes Bridge over the Yarra (near the pedestrian crossing closest to the river from Flinders St, on the Fed Square side).
We'll walk for about 6km along the Yarra River, through the Botanic Gardens and back along the river to Federation Square for a coffee after the walk.
This month, we're reading and talking about 'I'd Rather Not' by Robert Skinner.
The blurb:
'From one of Australia’s most wryly funny writers comes an original and utterly hilarious memoir of reaching for the stars while lying in a ditch
*I was sleeping in what might reasonably be described as a ditch, though I tried not to think of it in those terms for morale reasons . . .*
Robert Skinner arrives in the city, searching for a richer life. Things begin badly and then, surprisingly, get slightly worse. Pretty soon he's sleeping rough and trying to run a literary magazine out of a dog park. His quest for meaning keeps being thwarted, by endless jobs, beagles, house parties, ill-advised love affairs, camel trips and bureaucratic entanglements.
Sometimes a book catches the spirit of the times. *I'd Rather Not* is about work, escape and that something more we all need.
'I was told this man came from the Adelaide Plains and so commenced to read his work. By the time I realised I'd been viciously misled and he actually grew up in Magill, it was too late. I was already completely in love with the book. It's an absolute bag of lollies.' —Annabel Crabb
'Robert Skinner writes with humour, intelligence and heart. Pick up this book and you may never put it down.' —Tony Birch
'This book is like a big, properly made gin and tonic drunk outside in a garden on a perfect Saturday afternoon.' —Cate Kennedy
'…no other book brought me as much joy as this hilarious and deceptively artful collection, and in these uncertain times that is worth plenty.' —Michael Winkler
'No one writes better when the stakes are lower.' —Sam Vincent
'My heart leaps whenever I see Robert Skinner's by-line; I know I am in for a hilarious literary treat complete with wry pearlers, gallows truths and wicked timing. People will say he is Australia's Sedaris, but he's not. He's Robert Skinner and he's a bloody marvel.' —Anna Krien
'Brevity may be the soul of wit, but the nimble economy of this slim volume will make readers pine for more. A decidedly skewed, hilarious collection of life reflections and colorful storytelling.' —*Kirkus*
'Seriously the funniest book I've read all year. I can't stop thinking about Robert Skinner's forays into the most mundane and frustrating aspects of life - Centrelink, being a tour guide, applying for arts funding - and the shameless truths he not only reveals about himself but about us as a society. Read this book with a bottle of wine, and be alarmed and enlightened!' —Alice Pung
'If only all books were as funny, human and true as *I'd Rather Not*. I raced through it, marvelling and envious all the way.' —Michelle de Kretser
'Skinner has been compared to Oscar Wilde, but his book is as self-effacing as it is quip-witted.' —Beejay Silcox, *The Guardian* 'The best Australian books of 2023'
'Skinner has been called the Australian David Sedaris and it's easy to see why. Both have the same droll, self-deprecating humour and both mine their own lives for maximum mirth-making potential. [...] a book with a several-laughs-a-page quotient.' –Thuy On, *Arts Hub*
'The funniest book I have read for a long time' —Andy Griffiths, author of *The Treehouse* series"
Goodreads rating: 3.71
How does a walking bookclub work?
Like a normal bookclub, we talk about the book, what else we're reading, have read, or want to read (as well as a few tangents into life outside literature!) but we do it while walking around Melbourne and then over a coffee. We often split into smaller groups as we walk, but we also regroup through the walk.
Should I read the book beforehand?
The conversation will be more interesting if you do, but you can still come along if you haven't finished it yet!
Do I need to bring anything?
**Comfy** walking shoes, drinking water, some money for coffee or a bite to eat after if you wish. No need to bring the book unless you want to.
No shows
No shows (RSVPing yes and not attending) mean the group waits unnecessarily for those who are not coming, thinking you are running a little late. It’s absolutely fine to change your rsvp for any reason up until the walk begins, and you don’t need to leave a comment, send a message or give a reason, but if you don't click that 'change rsvp' button, you may be removed from the group.
Membership Fee
Did you know that while it is free to attend most events, Meetup charges organisers about $600 a year to organise a group? Members of the Walking Book Club are asked to pay a membership fee of $10 per year (not per event) to help cover this cost. When you join the group, you'll be automatically given a three month trial so you can see what the group is like, without needing to make any payment. If you would like to continue attending events after this, please follow Meetup's instructions to pay the $6.50US/approx $10AUD fee once per year (or contact group organisers if you would prefer to make payment using paypal, payID, cash or bank transfer).
Drinks at Olympia rooftop bar
Hi everyone!
Our next event will be the week after Greek Easter at the Olympia rooftop bar in Oakleigh (from 3.00-5.30pm, Sunday 19th April).
Please RSVP if you are sure you will attend (and update if you can no longer attend) so I can advise the venue of attendee numbers.
The venue will be covered/is no issue in case of bad weather.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Kind regards, Peter

Jaafar Jackson (Michael Jackson’s nephew) stars in the title role alongside Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo.

Prompt vs. Paintbrush
AI is changing how art is made. But when does it stop being your work and start being the machine’s?
This month we're going to be doing a panel with with digital image, music, and written word artists, talking about at what point, while using AI in the creation process, does the work become not the artist creation?
We encourage audience participation during this event that will be moderated by Chris Slee.
Whether you’re deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.
