Let's head back to our beloved Rio Zêzere, departing from a meeting point just south of the Castelo do Bode dam. We will paddle 9 kms down the lush river landscapes and through a few “mini rapids” on our way to the river beach in Constância. Whether you're an experienced kayaker or a sporty beginner looking to try something new, this event is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. **Duration**: approx. 4-5 hours in total * 2.5 hours on the water (incl. breaks) * 2 hours for a picnic lunch and swim at the river beach **Price**: €20 per person. 🍇 UPDATE: The Wineberries Need a Little More Time A late frost appears to have delayed the wineberries this year, and after scouting several patches, they're not quite ready yet. Rather than risk arriving too early, I've moved this event to Sunday, July 5th to give them another week to ripen. The good news is that I've found a promising patch, and the extra time should give us a much better chance of finding ripe berries. 🍇 Summer Foraging Walk: Wild Wineberries Join us for a summer foraging adventure as we explore the woods in search of wild wineberries, a bright red seasonal berry that typically ripens in late June and early July. Wineberries are an introduced invasive plant, so harvesting them can be a satisfying way to gather food while also helping create more room for native plants to thrive. They're also delicious and can be turned into syrup, jam, sauces, and other seasonal treats. This Meetup will be a blend of hiking, foraging, shared learning, and enjoying time in nature together. — 🌿 About the Event — We'll explore a wooded area in Germantown and make our way to a productive wineberry patch that I've recently scouted. Along the way, we can talk about foraging, plant identification, sustainability, and practical ways to use what the land provides. If all goes well, I hope to bring homemade wineberry syrup for a simple pre-hike soda tasting before we head out. — 🥾 Difficulty — Moderate to Difficult. This is not a maintained-trail hike. Reaching the berry patch requires traveling through rugged terrain, including deer paths, thorny thickets, uneven ground, rocky stream crossings, and short off-trail sections.
