Our core text is *“Encountering the Imaginary.”* We asked: how Blanchot helps us think art, not only literature — image, distance, narrative. How he could help us overcome the unbearable sterility that the art has found itself in. We will sit with selected passages together, follow the writing closely, and take time for questions in conversation. Additional side materials will be provided. The sessions remain open and moderated. No prior knowledge is required — only patience with the text. I’m organising a coworking + socialising session for all of us who are working on projects (e.g. our own creations, freelance or remote work) but don't feel like sitting alone at home. 🙂 To ensure that we have time for both socialising AND working, we will be using the so-called “Pomodoro” technique: **50 mins deep work** (silent), followed by **10 mins break** to socialise. And then repeat! You are welcome to join whatever your personal background is, and whatever project you are working on. I (the host) speak English and German, so either language is fine. ——————————————————- AGENDA: * **Short Intro** Tell us who you are and share something about what you will be working on today * **Pomodoro Session** \- 3x \(3h\) Each Pomodoro session consists of 50 mins focused “deep work” (no talking, no interruptions, **phones on silent mode**) -> then 10 mins break: a chance to share your progress with others -> Repeat * **15 mins Wrap Up** Celebrate what you achieved and get to know others 😊 ———— The location is **Espresso House near Checkpoint Charlie** (they have multiple outlets - so be sure to go to the correct one!) A 2.5 hours oil color - acrylics painting lesson. **About this course** This is a painting workshop with the goal of teaching people how to create paintings using either oil colors or acrylics. The total subject lessons consists of around **27 lessons** that last 2.5 hours each. You can join at any time during the course. On each lesson the first part will be about theory and exercise and the second one about canvas time. Each participant will have the chance to work on canvas and start making paintings as artworks. All materials are provided by us. Each lesson has a subject. We do not follow a particular order, and every lesson is actually unique and many times personalized. This means that every time the attendess will have to do something new and different. You do not have to paint on canvas and with the mentioned art materias, you can also choose to use any of your wish. Most of the observations and exercises work well with all art materials. It is suitable for beginners and or even professionals who want to rationalize the canvas painting process. It is being hosted by the visual artist [Miltos Despoudis](https://miltosdespoudis.gr/). **How much does it cost?** Check below: * 5 x Lessons Packet (2.5 hours each) cost **120€.** * First lesson try-out costs **17€**. ## You like drawing but find portraits challenging? ### **You just need the right process!** Then this workshop is for YOU! And for anyone who wishes to explore realistic pencil portrait drawing from photographic references through a structured method, and wants to learn or refine pencil hatching and shading techniques. The workshop is designed for a small group, allowing a flexible and supportive approach, adapting to each participant’s level: from guiding beginners to helping intermediate artists tackle their personal creative challenges. Without the pressure of the final result, we will focus on learning the method and enjoying the creative process. I am Alessia Sinopoli, an Italian professional artist based in Berlin, and I will be your instructor throughout this journey. ### What we'll do step by step We’ll combine theory and practice: * Practice targeted observation to select the best reference photo * Use the grid method for accurate proportions and create a preliminary sketch * Understand the differences between pencils of various hardness and get familiar with the materials we’ll use * Master shading (the real magic!) with hatching techniques to shape volume and depth * Train your observational skills to recognize different tonal values * Explore changing perspectives to refresh your vision * Discuss common mistakes and learn how to avoid them * Participate in an open Q&A, receive personalized tips, and get feedback throughout the process * Learn how to preserve and protect your finished portrait ### Breaks and Refreshments While drawing, we’ll enjoy some tea. From time to time we will have short breaks, as drawing can be quite intense. During this event, you can also learn more about the various regions across Ohio we are prioritizing for the BES Fellowship to ensure that new schools will respond to the needs of their community. **About the BES Fellowship:** Leaders in the BES Fellowship embark on a multi-year process to design, found, and lead an excellent K-12 public school that reflects and responds to community needs.
