Cultural Walk along the Yarra @Coffee/Lunch at Abbotsford Convent Bakery
Join me at the historic Abbotsford Convent for a relaxed walk following the Yarra Trail to the traditional crossing point at Dights Falls.
We'll have time to take in the cultural significance of this meeting place on the River, enjoy quiet conversation together and make new friends.
Heading upstream we'll cross the Merri Creek where it flows into the Yarra and make our way to Deep Rock with its sheer granite backdrop. Further along the trail we'll have fun together crossing the Kane's suspension bridge. The riverbank return takes us beside the Collingwood Children's Farm and into the tranquil gardens surrounding the Abbotsford Convent.
We'll finish up at the Convent Bakery to socialise and enjoy a coffee and our lunch together.
**Agenda**
I will meet you at 10am just inside the front gate of the Abbotsford Convent on St Heliers Street.
We'll head off at 10.15am to join the Yarra Trail and walk beside the Yarra to Dights Falls.
From there we will follow the trail to Kane's Bridge before making our way back through the Abbotsford Convent gardens to the bakery.
We can take time to socialise and enjoy coffee and lunch together.
This is an easy to moderate walk along a gravel path. The distance is about 7km all up and will take us around 1hr 45mins.
**Location**
If coming by public transport you can catch the Mernda or Hurstbridge line train to Victoria Park Station. The train station is a 10-15 minute walk to the Convent. Or you can catch the 200 or 207 bus down Johnston Street to the Clarke Street stop. The bus stop is a 3-5 minute walk to the Convent.
The Abbotsford Convent car parking fee on the weekend is $7.50 for the first hour and $2 per hour after that.
When you RSVP, please click Attend on the event page and I will be in touch via Direct Messages. I will also be available in the Event Comments on the day.
Coffee Meetup: Minimal living and Tiny Home Living
**About this event:** Have you been dreaming of going tiny? Are you curious about minimal living, off-grid setups, or just downsizing your life in Victoria?
You are not alone! We are launching a new community for enthusiasts to connect, share stories, and support one another.
Imagine a life with less clutter, less debt, and more freedom.
We are building a community in Victoria for those who want to step away from the traditional housing market and embrace tiny homes and minimal living.
For our first-ever meetup, we are keeping it simple. We’ll meet in the park to introduce ourselves and discuss what we want to create together. Whether you want to talk about the technical side (trailers, solar, regulations) or the lifestyle side (downsizing, remote work), this is the place to start.
Come along, make new friends, and let’s talk about how to make big dreams happen in tiny spaces.
**What to expect:** This is a strictly casual, unstructured meetup. No presentations, no sales pitches, and no pressure. Just a relaxed afternoon in the park with like-minded people.
We’re simply gathering to discuss:
* Who is already living the tiny life?
* Who is dreaming/planning?
* What are the local hurdles (council rules, finding land, etc.)?
* How can we support each other?
**Who should come:** Whether you have your tiny house plans drawn up, you're already living in one, or you just watched a documentary and thought "I could do that"—you are welcome here.
**About Your Host**
Hi, I’m Karen. After exploring over 50 countries, I’ve chosen Melbourne as my home. As an entrepreneur, I’ve come to realize that we don't need much to be truly happy. In fact, nature provides us with so many "free luxuries"—from sunlight to green spaces—that we often overlook in the modern world.
I am channeling this philosophy into building my own tiny home in Victoria this year. I started this group because I realized that while the tiny house movement is growing, the journey can feel a bit lonely. I want to build a supportive local community where we can share resources, untangle the regulations, and help each other turn these small dreams into reality.

Great Victorian Rail Trail: Tallarook to Yea Return Ride (80km)
Join me for a full-day ride on the Great Victorian Rail Trail as we cycle from Tallarook to Yea and then return back to Tallarook.
We’ll be riding around 80 km in total, so this ride is best suited to people with reasonable fitness who are comfortable riding longer distances at a steady pace.
The trail is known for scenic countryside views, relaxed rail trail riding, and the beautiful Trawool Valley section. It should be a great full-day bike adventure for anyone who is comfortable with the distance.
We’ll take the train from Southern Cross to Tallarook, start the ride from there, cycle to Yea, take breaks as needed, and then ride back to Tallarook for the return train to Melbourne.
This is not a beginner ride. Please only RSVP if you are confident riding around 80 km at an average pace of around 15 km/h.

Related video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm9LIX6vqOE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm9LIX6vqOE)
**Rough timeline**
* 6:45am — Meet at V/Line Tickets and Information, Southern Cross Station
* 7:16am — Train departs Southern Cross for Tallarook
* Morning — Arrive at Tallarook and start the ride
* Ride Tallarook to Yea along the Great Victorian Rail Trail
* Breaks as needed along the way
* Afternoon — Ride from Yea back to Tallarook
* Return train options from Tallarook include 5:22pm, 6:43pm and 8:33pm
* Around 10:00pm — Meetup ends, depending on which return train we take
The return time will depend on group pace, breaks, weather, and train availability.
**Tickets**
Attendees will need their own valid Myki / V/Line fare for the train travel.
Please check your own fare and travel arrangements before the day.
**What to bring**
* A bicycle in good working condition
* Helmet
* Front and back lights
* Puncture repair kit
* Lunch
* Enough water
* Snacks
* Weather-appropriate clothing
* Myki / valid public transport fare
* Any personal medication or items you need for a full-day ride
**What to expect**
* Distance: Around 80 km return
* Difficulty: Moderate to challenging due to distance
* Pace: Steady average pace of around 15 km/h
* Vibe: Scenic, practical, relaxed, but still a proper full-day ride
We’ll take breaks as needed, but the group will need to keep moving at a reasonable pace so we can return to Tallarook in time for a suitable train.
**Important notes**
This event is weather dependent and will not go ahead if rain is forecast.
This event is also dependent on V/Line train availability. It may need to be cancelled or changed if there are coach replacements, timetable changes, disruptions, or other major issues.
V/Line currently notes that bicycles can be carried on trains only if space is available, so bike carriage is not guaranteed. Please be prepared for that possibility.
Please make sure your bike is in good working condition before the day. You should be able to manage basic issues such as a puncture, or at least bring the tools and supplies needed.
This ride is best suited to people who are already comfortable riding longer distances. If you are unsure whether 80 km at around 15 km/h is suitable for you, this may not be the right event.
**Other info**
Please check the weather forecast and V/Line service status closer to the day.
