Belgian PostgreSQL Meetup: March Edition
Hello Postgres folks!
We’re happy to announce our next in-person PostgreSQL meetup, which will take place at ULB in **Brussels** 🇧🇪
📅 **When:** Tuesday, **10 March 2026**
📍 **Where:** Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Brussels
Solbosch campus, same location as FOSDEM, just make sure to find the right building and room
📌 **Room:** S.UA6.124/128
Building U, door A, level 6, room 124
Campus map: https://www.ulb.be/en/solbosch/campus-map
Address: Avenue Paul Héger 22, 1050 Brussels
This meetup will follow our usual after-work format, with talks, discussions, and plenty of time to catch up with fellow PostgreSQL enthusiasts over food and drinks.
**Program**
* **18:00** Doors open
* **18:20** Welcome by PostgreSQL Users Group Belgium
* **18:30** "*MobilityDB: Bringing Mobility Data Inside PostgreSQL*" by Esteban Zimanyi (ULB)
* **19:00** "*Scaling Semantic Models: Bespoke PostgreSQL Schemas at SaaS Scale*" by Thijs Lemmens
* **19:30** "*Percona Operator for PostgreSQL: An Honest Overview*" by Yoann La Cancellera (Percona)
* **20:00** Food & Drinks 🍕 Sponsored by Percona
* **21:00** Close
A big thanks to **Mahmoud Sakr (ULB)** for hosting and to **Percona** for sponsoring the event 🙏
**More details about the talks:**
* **MobilityDB: Bringing Mobility Data Inside PostgreSQL**
*MobilityDB is an open source data management and analytics platform for mobility data (https://github.com/MobilityDB/MobilityDB). Its core function is to efficiently store and query mobility tracks such as vehicle GPS trajectories. Built on top of PostgreSQL and PostGIS, it provides spatiotemporal data management via SQL.*
*Because it is implemented as a native PostgreSQL extension, MobilityDB can be deployed in traditional on premise setups as well as cloud and edge environments without requiring a separate data platform.*
* **Scaling Semantic Models: Bespoke PostgreSQL Schemas at SaaS Scale**
*While most CMS platforms rely on generic EAV tables, ContentGrid generates native PostgreSQL schemas directly from user-defined semantic models. We’ll discuss the challenges of automating DDL migrations for thousands of unique schemas and the infrastructure patterns we use to keep this model-driven approach performant, isolated, and manageable at scale.*
* **Percona Operator for PostgreSQL: An Honest Overview**
*In this talk, we review the Percona Operator for PostgreSQL, how it derives from its Crunchy foundation, how it is architected, and the capabilities it provides. We will examine its strengths and weaknesses, how it approaches vendor lock in, and the strategy shaping the project.*
*The goal is not to present a feature list or a how to guide, but to focus on architectural considerations and operational tradeoffs.*
We’re looking forward to another great evening of PostgreSQL, community, and good conversations in Brussels.
See you there! 🐘💛🖤❤️

Brussels Runners - Tuesday Intervals
We do cycles of 4-6 weeks, with a progressive load, and a recovery week at the end of the cycle.
Session:
* 10 - 20’ warm up (easy run and drills)
* Core session (ie. 6x5' - 2' recovery)
* Cool down
We run together during Warm-up, and cool down and tey to regroup during recovery time. Paces are not imposed (everyone runs at his/her own pace) given the intensity suggested.
Notes:
It's NOT required to have an activity tracker or smart watch to be able to follow the session, as I'll be giving signals with a whistle.
Intervals training is not advised for total beginners. To have an idea, the average pace at the warm up is around 5'45"/km-6'15"/km so this pace should feel very comfortable

Debate Night: Iran; history, war, future
News from the Middle East, and from Iran in particular, has been stark. Following months of nationwide unrest and a severe state crackdown, casualty estimates vary widely and remain difficult to verify, ranging from official figures in the thousands to independent claims far higher. In late February 2026, Israel and the United States began a major military campaign against Iran, with publicly stated objectives ranging from degrading Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities to calls that imply, or explicitly seek, regime change. Reports also indicate that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed during the strikes.
Understanding this moment requires more than headlines; it requires historical perspective.
Modern Iran’s relationship with Western powers has been shaped by deep mistrust. In 1953, the UK and the US backed a covert operation that overthrew Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh after his government moved to nationalise Iran’s oil industry. For many Iranians, the coup became a lasting symbol of foreign interference and a denial of democratic sovereignty. The decades that followed were marked by repression under the Shah and intense geopolitical competition and helped set the conditions for the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which replaced the monarchy with a theocratic system under Ayatollah Khomeini. Since then, relations with the West have been defined by sanctions, nuclear diplomacy, regional conflicts involving allied armed groups, and sharply competing visions of order in the region.
The reported death of Khamenei may be seen by some as an opening for change inside Iran, and by others as a trigger for instability: succession struggles, hard-line consolidation, fragmentation, or a prolonged power vacuum. Externally, it raises urgent questions about escalation, international law, civilian protection, and the long-term consequences of force.
This evening, we will explore the broader forces shaping the conflict rather than reducing it to simple narratives:
* What weight does history carry in shaping today’s realities?
* How do foreign interventions alter domestic political trajectories?
* Can external pressure promote reform or does it entrench authoritarianism?
* How should states balance strategic interests with international law and human rights?
Join us for a discussion that seeks to unpack the historical roots, competing narratives, and moral complexities surrounding Iran and the wider regional crisis.
This debate will follow a British Parliamentary format with eight debaters split into **four teams of two.**
Participants who wish to speak are highly encouraged to bring a paper and pen. You are welcome to participate even if you have no prior debating experience.
We aim for debates that are respectful, constructive, and welcoming:
* **Respect ideas and people** Listen actively, stay quiet while others speak, and debate arguments, not identities or beliefs.
* **Be concise and civil** Keep questions short and relevant; avoid hostility, hate speech, or discrimination.
* **Respect boundaries and time** No unwanted advances or suggestive behavior; arrive on time to avoid disrupting the debate.
* **Follow moderators** They guide the discussion and ensure fairness.

**A MESSAGE FOR NEWCOMERS:**
*In the three years of hosting this coffee group, I have met many people who struggle with anxieties when coming to an event for the first time. Sometimes, it took them more than one attempt before being able to join.*
*Occasionally, people reach out to me before the event, and I have always been grateful for that as it offers the opportunity to communicate with each other and to find the best and most gentle way for that person to join the group.*
*I would like to encourage everyone who struggles with this to contact me before. It would really be too bad if you can't join us, as it mostly gets better the second or third time you come.*
*In addition to that, if you arrive and notice any signs of nervousness or fear, you can always let me know right then.*
**THANK YOU AND SEE YOU ALL ON Saturday!**

Making Moves: Small-Group Coaching for Women in Product
## Hey Columbus WIP peeps!
## Are you ready for an event that actually gives you what you asked for??
**\-\-\-\-\-\-**
**A Small-group coaching conversations for women in product navigating growth, leadership, and career decisions.**
**March 10 \| 5:30–8:00 PM**
**Rev1 -- NEW SPACE**
**330 Rush Alley #100**
**Parking Options:**
• **Rev1 at The Peninsula**
• **Starling St. Garage South** – 377 W. Capital St.
• **LAZ Parking (COSI)** – 50 Belle St.
• **LAZ Parking Limited** – 375 W. State St.
• **Veterans Memorial Lot** – 300 W. Broad St.
• **Metered Street Parking**
**What moves are you making?**
A promotion you’re working toward.
A role change you’re considering.
A bigger leadership opportunity.
A conversation that needs to happen.
A decision that’s been sitting in the back of your mind.
For our Q1 Women in Product Columbus event, we’re creating space to actually work through those moments.
**Making Moves** is an evening of focused, facilitated coaching conversations with experienced mentors from our local product community. This isn’t a panel. It’s not passive networking. It’s small-group dialogue designed to be thoughtful, practical, and worth your time.
Here’s how it will work:
• You’ll choose a topic that reflects what you’re navigating right now
• You’ll join a small coaching circle (5–7 participants)
• Each circle is led by a mentor who has lived experience in that area
• We’ll run two rounds so you can go deeper or explore a second conversation
### Coaching Topics:
• Communicating the Value of Your Work (or Team)
• Career Transitions & What’s Next
• Growing Into Leadership
• Staying Relevant as Technology (and AI) Changes
• Getting Alignment and Decisions from Leadership
Our goal is simple: you leave with clearer thinking, practical perspective, and at least one next step you feel confident about.
Space in each circle will be limited to keep conversations meaningful.
If this sounds like the kind of room you’ve been wanting to be in, we’d love to see you on March 10.

In this talk, you will learn how to talk to your phone and have an app on Azure to show your friend 5 minutes later. The basic DevOps tools you already know, plus a little bit of AI magic, are all you need!
If you want to follow along, the demo will be in Azure with GitHub Actions and GitHub Copilot, and you can have it set up on your phone by the end of the session. Just come in with an Azure account and a GitHub repo.
Join us for pizza, drinks, and networking @ Improving's office. Doors open at 5:45.
