Weāre a supportive community, and Iām here to organise this Meetup space. Iām looking foreword to seeing it grow and become a regular place for people to get-together. Nordic Walking in Docklands
**PLEASE READ: Advanced booking is required via our website [https://www.silverfit.org.uk/nordic-walking-sessions](https://www.silverfit.org.uk/nordic-walking-sessions)/ we do not use Meet Up as a means for sign up. Please DO NOT just turn up to this session.**
Activity: Nordic Walking at Docklands
Where and when: Mondays 10am, Meet at Bellucci Cafe inside Decathlon - Canada Water (https://www.thelodge.cafe/[https://www.thelodge.cafe/](https://www.thelodge.cafe/))
Price: £3 when booking on TicketTailor
Benefits of Nordic Walking:
The fitness and health benefits of Nordic Walking are significantly greater than regular walking, trekking or even jogging, with scientific research from Europe and the USA proving that Nordic Walking:
Activates 90% of the body's muscles
Burns up to 46% more calories than regular walking
Increases aerobic effect by up to 25% compared to regular walking
Decreases load and strain on the lower body
Tones upper arms, shoulders and back muscles
Improves lateral mobility of the spine
Develops core stability and strength
Promotes an upright posture
These benefits are achieved through the use of specially designed poles and a properly learned and performed Nordic Walking technique, whereby the poles are used as a resistance tool to engage the upper body. The result is a low impact, high results, total body exercise.
As a low impact walking exercise, Nordic Walking is something that can be done and enjoyed individually or as a group activity, anywhere a person can normally walk.

C++ on Thames
This month we're doing something a bit different.
Edward Boggis-Rolfe has very kindly offered to host us at the moorings where he has a boat, just up past Tower Bridge.
We'll have access to a small event space, right on the river, which is covered, but outdoors. We'll have a BBQ going, serving sausages, and free drinks. The cost of the food and drink is being covered by Undo - so thanks to Undo, too!
But rather than just be a social event, we do want to include some C++ content, too. We'll have access to a screen and projector - but whether we'll be able to use them depends on the weather!
So we're inviting anyone that wants to give a **lightning talk** to let us know.
The one caveat is that you'll need to be prepared to give it *without slides* if we can't use the projector (we should have audio, at least). As an extra incentive we'll be holding back a few places for people who can give talks. Spaces will be limited overall, but if you do a talk your place is assured!
So submit your ideas here:
[cppldn.uk/speak](https://philnash.typeform.com/to/pJVp7s)
5 minutes, something related to C++, slides optional. Go!
A Walk to the Sea (15 or 17 miles) - Hassocks to Brighton
What better way that a walk may end, than to shed boots for the final steps into animating surf. This walk crosses the South Downs to finish at the sea. And there's a choice of arrival at Brighton: one can walk a final mile or so along the seafront; or enter the city in style aboard the oldest operating electric railway in the world - Volk's 1883 railway!
On 16th May 1881, the first electric tram service opened to the public built by Siemens, running from Berlin-Lichterfelde to the Prussian military academy. Two years later, Magnus Volk brought the technology here, and it's still going strong 140 years later š¤šš
Outward Travel: The train departing 9:35 AM from London Bridge arrives at Hassocks 10.32 AM.
Buy a return ticket to BRIGHTON. The return train fare from Thameslink London terminals with a Network Card or GroupSave is £12.10.
People gather outside the ticket office to arrange group tickets and the organiser will be in attendance from 9.15 AM. However arrive earlier if you wish
Walk start: 10:35 AM from HASSOCKS rail station.
Bring a packed lunch. The walk length is 15 miles, or 17 miles without the electric train (single fare £5.40).

*How to join?*

IMPORTANT
Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes.
Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader".
Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen.
Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-)
By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer.
Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips:
http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/
TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE
Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered.
As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.
In person meetup to critique work submitted by members.
This is a live session at The Mitre in Greenwich.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide and receive critique on submitted extracts of members' creative writing, whether they're working on a novel, screenplay, poetry, a memoir or short story, etc. We share our extracts via email ahead of the meeting to give us all a chance to read the work in our own time and reflect upon it so as to be able to provide useful critique. If you want to submit an extract mail me at gpatrick66@hotmail.com to book a slot.
If you are new to the group we ask that you participate in at least two of the Wednesday critiquing sessions before you submit work for review so that you get to know us and have a good understanding of how we operate. This will help you to get the most from a critique of your own work.
Extracts should be approx 3,000 words and the full document (extract plus blurbs, questions etc) should not exceed 3,500 words in total. Extracts must be mailed to me (gpatrick66@hotmail.com) at the latest by 9pm on the Saturday before the session so that I can share your work with the rest of the group. We have a limit of 4 extracts per session to give adequate time to review work properly. Feel free to give guidance on any specific areas on which you would like feedback. E.g. Plot, pacing, structure or character development etc. (If you have not received the extracts by the Sunday before the session, mail me.)
The group is friendly and relaxed, so please don't feel nervous about sharing your work!
We will normally review extracts according to the order in which they are sent to me but if you need a particular slot let me know when you submit your extract and we will try to accommodate that.
Please note that all phones MUST be switched to silent mode for the duration of the meeting.
