AIâŻvs.âŻHuman: Who Designs Better Primers? In Person computer lab
Join us this Wednesday at **DIYBio.to** for a handsâon trial to compare primer designâbetween cuttingâedge AI algorithms with traditional human expertise. We will also tour our lab - it's under new construction though! And go over some of the fluorescent tools that we have for cloning.
**What to expect:**
* **Agenda:**
1. Quick intro to primer design fundamentals.
2. Live demo of an AIâdriven primer design tool (e.g., PrimerâAI, DeepPrimer, BiOMNI).
3. Humanâled design session using classic software (Primerâ3, Geneious).
4. Sideâbyâside performance comparison (specificity, speed, cost). Then, we will elect to test some primers on DNA in about two weeks.
5. Open Q&A and brainstorming future collaborations.
* **What to bring:** Laptop (optional), curiosity, and any DNA targets youâd like to test.
* **Finding us:** Hacklab.to, ground floor lab space
Our community biology projects also continue in the wet lab, and weâll be gathering data from todayâs primerâdesign showdown to feed into upcoming courses. For more on our broader mission, check out **[diybio.to](https://diybio.to/)**[ ](https://diybio.to/)and the **[experiment.com](https://experiment.com/projects/demystifying-pcr-fostering-scientific-literacy-through-hands-on-pcr-education)** program.
**Why this matters:**
At DIYBio.to we aim to bridge biology and the community, and now weâre exploring how AI can augmentâor perhaps surpassâhuman ingenuity in a core molecularâbiology task.
**Who we are:**
A diverse mix of biologists, bioâengineers, data scientists, and enthusiastic hobbyistsâfrom newcomers to PhDâlevel expertsâall committed to safe, inclusive, and respectful collaboration at Hacklab.to and DIYBio.to.
**Community standards:**
Our antiâharassment policy applies to everyone. Highlights: **Respect & consent:** No photos without permission; **Safety first:** We actively prevent harassment, offensive remarks, or unwanted intrusionsâboth physical and digital. *By signing up, you agree to uphold these standards and help keep our space welcoming.*
**Membership**: If you share our passion and vision, we invite you to become a member of [hacklab.to](https://hacklab.to/) and DIYBio.to. Come visit us, and let's engage in a conversation about cell and molecular biology. Your journey into the DIY world of biology awaits!

SCARBOROUGH - Practical Philosophy đ¨đŚ
**đď¸ WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?**
Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no âofficialâ philosophy knowledge required! đ
Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic.
The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community đ
**đ HOW DOES IT WORK?**
Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://tally.so/r/ZjaPO0), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going.
When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, itâs important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture.
**General Meeting Agenda**
Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline:
* 19:00-19:15 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the âofficial' start.
* 19:15-19:25 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines.
* 19:25-20:45 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the âjump-offâ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. Itâs not obligatory to answer them.
* 20:45-21:00 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo.
* 21:00 - The official meeting is over but itâs a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other.
**đ§§PRICING?**
Practical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend! We just ask that if we are meeting in a cafĂŠ, buy a beverage! Some chapters rent a space for us to meet, and they may ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will always be 100% voluntary though!
đ **WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY**
đŁ âI feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting whatâs right and wrongâ - Ekam
đŁ âI got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.â - Daniel
**đ¤ FAQ**
* âWhat will we talk about? What's the topic?
âThe topic for the week is shared every Sunday in the Whatsapp group. We try to add the topic to the comment section on this event page as well but if you donât see it, the topic and the jump-off points will be in our [Whatsapp](https://tally.so/r/ZjaPO0).
* Do I need to study or read anything to attend?
No preparation is necessary. This isnât a study of other thinkers. We want to know what YOU think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and weâll discuss it, but it's not required.
* Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on?
The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school.
* Is it mostly men that attend?
Surprisingly, no! Although philosophy is seen as a Candelabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys, our Practical Philosophy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders, and we donât meet in any dark rooms.
* Can I come alone?
Of course you can, we encourage it :)
* Can I be late?
Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation.
* Where do you meet?
The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp](https://tally.so/r/ZjaPO0) group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/practical-philosophy-locations/).
đ¤**POLICY**
To respect our members privacy, we ask that no one privately message a member without first getting explicit consent. (This looks like speaking in person and being asked to message privately.) Contacting or texting other participants without prior consent is not permitted and may result in removal from the group. Practical Philosophy reserves the right to enforce this policy at its discretion to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
**PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY - Making Philosophy Available To All.** â¨
Practical Philosophy hosts weekly, in-person meetups in over 25 countries and 50+ chapters, including Canada, Spain, Japan, Mexico and many more! đşď¸

Coffee, Music, laugh-out-loud & Harnessing Your ADHD Superpower
Hey awesome ADHDers! Come stop blaming ourselves for our funny "mistakes" and start celebrating our magical power with ADHD. No promotions & no therapists, we're just a bunch of awesome ADHDers getting together to inspire each other on what we can do (and others can't!) because of our super brains, hear funky stories about how we mess up with certain things sometimes (and have some good laughs) and (serious part here:) learn how to harness your power in both work and relationships, and (most importantly) sip some coffee.
Meanwhile, we'll be sharing some good music that we find really helps with certain emotional states we go roller-coaster through.
But if none of these makes you sign up (continue reading plz!)... come meet Lorien, an OSU sophomore, ADHD 17, physics & philosophy double major, language coach, 10 years of classical guitar, 13 years of karate, 16 years of equestrian, and a startup founder.

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games!
The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!

CBusData: The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI
The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI
One does not simply build reports on OLTP data. Join us on an epic journey from the depths of raw, normalized tables to the shining halls of a well-modeled star schema fit for Power BI greatness. We will demystify the differences between OLTP and OLAP, walk through star schema vs snowflake (and why Power BI has a clear favorite), and show you the compression differences between normalized and columnar storage that will make you never look at an OLTP model the same way again.
We will cover the different types of dimensions, when to use them, and how to handle Slowly Changing Dimensions without losing your mind. You will leave knowing exactly how to identify a bad model, how to convert OLTP data into a clean star schema, and how to forge relationships that rule them all.
Whether you are a data wizard, a curious hobbit, or somewhere in between, your models will never be the same.
