The Moral of the Story: Scaling Ethics from Syllabi to Systems
This session interrogates the functional transition of ethical theory from academic discourse to industrial application. By examining the nuances of "on-the-ground" ethics, we will explore the pedagogical and structural methodologies required to move industry stakeholders beyond mere conceptual acknowledgement toward robust ethical activation. We will note the fiction between theoretical normative frameworks and the pragmatic constraints of the private sector. Ultimately, this discussion aims to identify how applied ethics can be effectively institutionalized within modern industry.
About the Speaker:
[Yoelit Lipinsky](https://www.linkedin.com/in/yoelitlipinsky/?originalSubdomain=ca), PhD, is a data ethicist at TELUS and has extensive experience in clinical ethics, including a position as a clinical ethicist at Providence Health Care. With a PhD in Healthcare Ethics from Duquesne University, her research focused on Catholic and Jewish bioethics. Previous roles include serving as a Mitacs Accelerate Postdoctoral Fellow in Ethics and Consent at The University of British Columbia, and as a clinical ethics fellow with the Provincial Health Services Authority and Providence Health Care. Yoelit also gained foundational experience as a clinical ethics student at Duquesne University, UPMC Mercy, and Squirrel Hill Health Center.

About the Centre for Ethics (http://ethics.utoronto.ca):
The Centre for Ethics is an interdisciplinary centre aimed at advancing research and teaching in the field of ethics, broadly defined. The Centre seeks to bring together the theoretical and practical knowledge of diverse scholars, students, public servants and social leaders in order to increase understanding of the ethical dimensions of individual, social, and political life.
In pursuit of its interdisciplinary mission, the Centre fosters lines of inquiry such as (1) foundations of ethics, which encompasses the history of ethics and core concepts in the philosophical study of ethics; (2) ethics in action, which relates theory to practice in key domains of social life, including bioethics, business ethics, and ethics in the public sphere; and (3) ethics in translation, which draws upon the rich multiculturalism of the City of Toronto and addresses the ethics of multicultural societies, ethical discourse across religious and cultural boundaries, and the ethics of international society.
The Ethics of A.I. Lab at the Centre For Ethics recently appeared on a list of 10 organizations leading the way in ethical A.I.: https://ocean.sagepub.com/blog/10-organizations-leading-the-way-in-ethical-ai
Coming Out, Being Out - Peer Discussion (Weekly)
**Description**
Coming Out Being Out (COBO) is a peer discussion group that has served the LGBT community for over 15 years in downtown Toronto. We meet to share stories and opinions, challenges and triumphs at all stages of coming out and being out.
COBO participants are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit and questioning people. We welcome all who identify under the banner of queer sexual orientation and gender identity.
**What We Do**
\|\-\| COBO participants are often seeking to:
* Understand what experiences others have in coming out to family, friends and their respective communities.
* Develop comfort in discussing their identity with others.
* Meet others having the same experiences when it comes to living openly.
* Receive the encouragement of peers.
\|\-\| Regular topics of discussion include:
* How people choose to come out (at work, with family, with friends).
* Where to find others like us in the community.
* Challenges and triumphs in navigating family and partner relationships.
**Where & When**
* Every Wednesday from 6-8pm
* Community meeting space at Casey House - 119 Isabella St., Toronto

Avengers’ Saturday Cafe for the Homeless
Note: You may be removed from the attendance list if you've participated in the previous week's event. This allows for more people to experience this Meetup.
Avengers put your costumes on and let’s go and save the world!
Well we can’t save the world (yet), but we aim to try to play a small part in the lives of those experiencing homelessness by making their day a bit better!
Description: Before the event the organizer will post a list in the comment section of the attendees and what they are responsible to bring (food/drink, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies). We normally ask each attending member to bring approximately $15-20 worth of ingredients/supplies to our event. We will use the items to prepare and serve food/drink at The Meeting Place.
Timeline: We will meet on location at 11:00 am, with lunch served between 12:30-1:00 pm.
Membership Dues: Membership dues are $2.00 for the calendar year. Membership dues go towards paying for food/supplies incurred by no-shows. Membership dues are due at the first meetup of the year that you attend.
No Shows/Late Un-RSVP: We’re relying on members who RSVP to bring key ingredients for recipes! Please try your best to show-up or alternatively change your RSVP early so another member may fill the empty spot.
\*\*\* If you are on the waitlist, keep checking as you may be moved into attendance to replace someone. We will try to message you to confirm your attendance in advance.
Donations will be assigned before the event.

Confidence & Connection: Using Your Authentic Truth to Find Your People
**Confidence & Connection: Using Your Authentic Truth to Find Your People**
Confidence isn’t just about believing in yourself, it’s about knowing where you belong and who you can grow alongside.
In this April Confidence Lab Happy Hour, we’ll explore how living in your authentic truth helps you find your people, build meaningful collaborations, and create spaces where vulnerability is met with respect rather than risk. Together, we’ll reflect on what it looks like to advocate for yourself with clarity and care, and how confidence deepens when it’s rooted in connection rather than comparison.
Featured speaker **Lachandra Baker**, founder of **[LBB Edutainment](https://www.lbbedutainment.com/)** and author of *Your Own Biggest Cheerleader*, will share reflections on authenticity, psychological safety, and the power of community over individual achievement. Drawing from personal stories—including the significance of turning 53—Lachandra will invite us into a conversation about showing up fully, being seen, and choosing relationships that support who you truly are.
Expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere with space for reflection, shared insight, and intentional connection—plus drinks, light bites, and the kind of conversations that remind you you’re not meant to do this alone.
Come as you are. Leave feeling clearer about your voice, your people, and the confidence that grows when both are aligned.
**What is Confidence Lab?**
Confidence Lab is a monthly community experience for bold, thoughtful leaders building confidence from the inside out. Whether you’re launching a business, leading a team, navigating change, or simply striving to show up more fully—you belong here.
Our work demands clarity, courage, and conviction—but the pace of daily life can erode our sense of self. Confidence Lab creates space to reflect, reconnect, and grow with others doing purpose-driven work.
It’s designed for entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, creatives, corporate professionals, activists, and anyone ready to lead with authenticity and impact.
***Please note:*** *All are welcome! If cost is a concern, please use promo code PUBLIC to access a free ticket—we want you to join us.*
Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association:
They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape — and practical ways to get involved.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online
