Writing Sprint Pilot
Writing Sprints Pilot: 6-Week Novelists Cohort
We are piloting a Writing Sprint format designed for writers who want focused and consistent accountability partners to build momentum on their first novel.
Unlike our weekly open sessions, the Writing Sprints run as a closed six-week cohort with the same group of writers meeting consistently. The emphasis is on creating a close-knit writership with writers in a similar place, fostering better trust, feedback and progress.
What to expect at each session
* Check in: weekly recap
* 60 minutes of focused writing
* 15 minutes reset
* 60 minutes of focused writing
* Check-out: weekly goal
There is no need to share your work, but for those that would like to hang back, there will be time to share ahead of time and discuss after the sessions.
How the sprints work
* Cohort size: six writers
* Who is it for: Emerging writers working on their first novel / project
* Same time, same location
Each writer sets:
* One personal milestone for the six weeks
* A weekly writing goal
Progress is visualised through simple weekly updates. This structure is designed to help you commit and stay consistent.

Thai Tattoo Magick -Sheer Zed
A powerful account of traditional Thai magick and a magickal vision quest for enlightenment and personal redemption written into the skin.
Sharing his profound encounters with Thai magick during four separate pilgrimages to Thailand, writer, Buddhist shaman, musician and artist Sheer Zed details the intense personal initiations and rituals he experienced with the sect of Thai Buddhist magicians known as Ajarns.
Traveling all over Thailand to meet with holy monks in sacred places, the author undergoes powerful Thai magickal rituals. Among these are the Gold Face Blessing, where gold leaf was hammered onto his face to form a mask, and a Satuang ritual, traditionally performed for returning soldiers, that crescendos with the release of 21 unruly catfish into the Ping River during a Wolf Moon. As Zed explores the cultural context of Thai Buddhist necromancy, he details firsthand the pain and transformation of his multiple talismanic Sak Yant tattoos, ritually done by hand by Ajarns in magickal inks, including one that spiritually transformed him into a tiger. He shares his experiences of intense Serm Duang ritual baths, the insertion of a gold Takrut needle into his arm, and a rare initiation to connect him directly with spirits.
Revealing the extreme personal losses and traumas that led to his spiritual transformation, Zed shares how his initiatory experiences with Thai Buddhist sorcerers helped him destroy his destructive former selves and discover profound healing for his mind and soul. Exploring chaos magick, pop culture, and esoteric Buddhism, he also examines the artistic and occult influences that shaped him into a magickal practitioner—from the underground electronic music scene and the work of the Beat Poets to the writings of Aleister Crowley and the Buddhist Anarchism of Gary Snyder.
This book:
• Details the author’s profound encounters with Thai magick during 4 separate pilgrimages to Thailand
• Explains the ritual process of the author’s multiple Sak Yant tattoos as well as other powerful magickal rituals and initiations he experienced
• Shares how his initiatory experiences with Thai Buddhist magicians helped him destroy his destructive former selves and discover profound healing for his mind and soul

Public Speaking Practice Thursdays
Come and get the chance to speak in a supportive and friendly environment. Public Speaking will boost your confidence and give you more power to speak and to be listened to in both your personal and professional life.
**What makes this public speaking session different from others you ask?**
There is a strong emphasis on self-expression, creativity, trial and error, and most importantly, speaking practice!
**What will you gain from this event?**
* Gain confidence by overcoming your fear of public speaking
* Learn to think on your feet with our Impromptu speaking format

**Here's how it works:**
\*I may choose to change the format from time to time based on numbers, and to practice different aspects of public speaking in order to keep it challenging\*
You will put your name in a hat/bowl and when your name is chosen, you will be asked to perform.
You will speak for 2 minutes on a random topic given by the audience. This is called an impromptu speech.
We will do 2-3 rounds of speaking followed by a feedback session at the end of the workshop.
**Public Speaking suggestions:**
TIP: Give your impromptu speech the following 3 sections below.
1. Introduction ("Today, I'm going to talk about....")
2. Body ("Here is my personal experience....")
3. Conclusion ("So, my key message is ....")
Each speech is to be 2 minutes long. Audience size 10-15 people.
You're not obligated to speak, although I may strongly encourage you to do so.

**TICKETS AVAILABLE [HERE](https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/collage-narratives-creative-writing-collage-workshop-tickets-1987075806227?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl)**
*Join Elena at her atelier on the Thames for a creative writing collage experience.*
Connect with forgotten stories and uncover hidden narratives from within.
Explore creative writing through text collage. Cut, rearrange, and transform found words into new narratives, shaping unexpected connections into your own original piece.
This hands-on process bypasses the pressure of writing from scratch, opening space for discovery, play, and personal insight.
Fragments become portals to echoes of memory, imagination, and new worlds.
In this words cloud collage workshop, you’ll be guided through a creative process that combines writing and visual composition. We begin with a short meditation and breathing practice to settle the mind. You’ll then be provided with magazines, newspapers, 30 x 30 cm white cardstock or A3 coloured paper card, scissors, and glue — everything you need.
With gentle guidance, you’ll create your own collage of words, allowing meaning to emerge intuitively as you work.
If you feel comfortable, at the end of the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to share your piece with the group, if you wish, and we can enjoy a brief moment of collective reflection.
**No prior experience needed — beginner-friendly**
**All materials included**
**Step-free access**

-short (50 words) creative writing challenge using Victorian cemetery related prompt words (again, optional)
-a brief history of this cemetery and any famous poet and novelist graves to look out for
-finally, break away to stroll in the cemetery grounds to appreciate the beauty, peace, nature, Victorian aesthetic and architecture.

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington.
The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.
Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine.
We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you.
The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly.
Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit.
Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have.
Happy writing!
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for May is "Ink"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
